Welcome to Spring Enrichment Programme 2024

Stephen Perse Holiday Enrichment Programmes offer children the opportunity to engage in, explore and experience a wide variety of age-appropriate activities, whilst incorporating childcare support for working parents during school breaks.

Our Year 1 to 6 programme welcomes children from other schools across the local area and overseas, as well as existing Stephen Perse students.

For families considering Stephen Perse for the next stage of their children's academic journey, our enrichment programmes offer a great insight into our values and ethos as a school. And for those joining us for the next academic year, the programmes will provide a wonderful opportunity for new students to familiarise themselves with our school environment and meet some of their peers before starting with us in September.

This brochure contains key information about the Spring Enrichment Programme, including details of the daily activity options and booking links.

How to choose activities

Years 1 to 6

For each day of the Spring Enrichment Programme activities will be split into two daily activity streams, Schedule A or Schedule B. Details of each activity stream will be available on the booking link, full details of each activity are contained in this brochure.

Activity Highlights

Table Tennis Academy (Years 4-6)

This is a full-day session that will be hosted at the University of Cambridge Sports Centre. The morning session will be led by qualified Table Tennis coaches, focusing on the technical aspects of the game to support pupils in progressing their skills. In the afternoon session pupils will have the opportunity to put what they have learnt into competitive situations, through playing in a series of mini-tournaments.

Golf Workshops

We have steadily been introducing Golf as a development sport within our curriculum time, clubs offer, and also through our Holiday Enrichment Programmes. These sessions will provide a further opportunity for pupils to enhance their skills, focusing on the fundamentals of the golf swing and also the art of putting.

Badminton

Our badminton session will be based at the Senior School sports hall, where pupils will be introduced to the key technical skills required in this fast-paced racket sport. Equipment will be provided, however if any pupils have their own racket they are more than welcome to bring this with them.

Basketball

Ever popular on the playground at break and lunchtimes, this session will provide a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop their dribbling, passing, and shooting skills on the Basketball court.

Tennis Coaching

Based at our Latham Road site, our Tennis sessions will provide a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop their skills and understanding of the game. Sessions will be led by coaches from Over & In, or by members of Stephen Perse PE & Games staff, and our Tennis activities will provide a great experience ahead of the Tennis season.

Indoor/Crazy Golf!

A slight variation on the more ‘traditional’ golf sessions offered at Latham Road, our indoor and crazy golf versions are based at Stephen Perse Cambridge Junior School and introduce pupils to the game using a range of fun games and challenges. Think Velcro target chipping, think windmills (or a variation of), think crazy golf by the seaside! We bring elements of these to the sessions, and lots of fun is sure to be had.

Trampoline Masterclass

Back by popular demand! We are again working with the Cambridge Cangaroos Trampoline Club based in Whittlesford, to provide an outstanding opportunity for our pupils to receive high-level coaching from British Gymnastics coaches in this exhilarating sport. Depending on numbers, this may also include the chance for pupils to experience DMT (double mini trampoline).

Footgolf

Ever heard of Footgolf? This is a fantastic sport that blends football and golf together! The aim is to ‘kick’ a football into a ‘hole’, in the least shots possible. You need to avoid the hazards, such as going out-of-bounds. This is a fantastic and relatively new sport that really helps pupils to develop their kicking action, and apply tactics to complete the course in the fewest shots possible. Who will be our first ever Footgolf champion?

Handball

Another sport that has grown in popularity over recent times at Stephen Perse Cambridge Junior School, these sessions will (numbers dependant) provide an opportunity for players to experience playing 7 v 7 games at Latham Road. The sessions will focus on passing, movement, and shooting skills, as well developing an awareness of defensive and attacking principles.

Dodgeball

Keep your wits about you in the popular game of Dodgeball. This session will help pupils develop their throwing skills, and ability to use a variety of throws to confuse opponents. Pupils will need to show excellent awareness and reaction time, in order to avoid being hit!

Faster, Higher, Stronger!

The Olympic motto reads ‘CitiusAltius - Fortius’. Translated to Faster, Higher, Stronger we have used the inspiration of the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris to run this session that will focus on developing pupils' athletic abilities through training. The session will include focus on speed and sprint development, alongside jumping and throwing skills all linked to athletics.

Fantasy Football

When does the number of goals scored not necessarily dictate the winner? In our Fantasy Football game! This focuses on pupils developing their awareness of a range of skills and attributes throughout the session, receiving points when certain focus areas are shown. This is a hugely engaging and fun version of Football, which will really help to develop the players all-around Footballing skills.

Cricket Skills & Bash!

As we approach the summer term at Stephen Perse the main sport focus within Games moves to Cricket. Our Cricket skills sessions will provide pupils with the opportunity to enhance their bowling, batting, and fielding skills ready for the season.

Evasion Games

In our Evasion Games session pupils will use activities that focus on how we can stay away, or evade, an opponent. This skill is crucial to any number of team games and individual sports, and the session will incorporate activities such as Touch Rugby and Capture the Flag to investigate how to evade an opponent effectively.

Spring Cookery School

Our ever popular Cookery School returns this spring. Led by our excellent Catering team from Holroyd Howe, pupils within our Cookery School will be creating a range of mouth-watering savoury and sweet goodies!

For those keen writers out there, this workshop will help pupils develop their ideas and create a written piece of prose on a topic of their choice. This could be a poem or short descriptive piece, and one which will really help pupils start to develop their own writing style.

Song Writing Workshop

A chance for pupils to get creative musically, through writing and performing their own songs.

Roving Reporters

This session will introduce pupils to the art of creating a news report. Pupils will be tasked with taking photos and then writing a news article all about the first day of the Spring Enrichment Programme. A great way of developing teamwork, planning skills and writing tasks, as well as honing presentation skills in front of a camera

Charity Challenge Relay

Across the Spring programme we have various planning stages, in order to give pupils sufficient time to plan and execute their ideas fully. The ‘relay’ idea relates to one group passing on the relevant information to the next, as groups/individuals may well change over the course of the programme. The idea is that the baton is passed to the next group, who will further develop ideas ready for the charity event on the final day of the programme

Musical Theatre –Matilda & Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

These Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory based workshops are again being led by the brilliant team from Pure Rhythm – sure to be a high-octane and fun musical extravaganza.

African Rhythms

This music workshop will introduce pupils to the rhythms and sounds of Africa. Based largely on drumming and other percussion instruments, this should be a fun-filled session that will ensure pupils keep with the beat!

Young Eco Club

This session will introduce pupils to various eco-themed topics, which are an increasingly important part of the world in which we live. Areas covered could include biodiversity, energy, healthy living, litter, and marine management.

In My Opinion!

Pupils will engage in a debate on specified topics. The idea in this session is for pupils to research and present an argument on a given topic, and try to persuade the audience to your way of thinking. At the same time, others will be opposed to your opinions and will try to undermine your arguments. A great opportunity to experience debating - a skill that is highly sought after

Junior Printmaking

Printmaking is the process of transferring designs or patterns onto a surface, using ink and pressure. Pupils will get the opportunity to use the printmaking process to create their own unique pieces of work.

Sewing Masterclass

A chance for pupils to develop their needlework skills, through this sewing masterclass. Pupils will learn all about the key skills required, prior to completing their own needlework masterpieces.

Compose Your Musical Story

A musical workshop with a difference. In this session pupils will develop stories through the medium of music.

Public Speaking

Don’t worry - this will not involve presenting to members of the public (yet!). This workshop will help pupils understand how to present to an audience effectively, using a range of key delivery and communication skills. Such an important skill to possess, this should be an extremely engaging and useful workshop.

Pop-Up Card/Book Creator

These sessions will enable pupils to create their own ‘pop-up’ cards or books, dependant on which of the scheduled sessions they take part in. We are hoping for some beautiful pop-up artefacts to be on display following these workshops.

Nature Walk

This walk will enable the pupils to get outside and active, whilst seeking out some of the wonders of nature in the local area.
