Initial Sketches
From complexity to simplicity
Here you can see some of the initial pattern sketches I made durring the semester. I wanted to try and create something complex for activity 1 to show my understanding of layering and pattern design without knowing we would be developing the pattern throughout the semester. I ended up having to simplify my original idea.
Initial Folding
Creating a tower from a single plane
This part of the project was very new to me. I haven’t used folded paper often so I started this assignment with the simple concept of creating a 3-D object from a 2-D plane
Here you can see my developed foldings that relate to my initial, as well as some new ideas playing with this medium.
Developed Folding
Same old & new fold
Developed Sketches
How the pattern evolved
In these activities you can see my development of the original complex pattern that I sketched and an example of how I used aspects of that pattern to create a simplified version for Rhino.
First Major Project
This one took me a long time...
I thought this idea would go much faster than it actually did. I measured, marked and hand cut every single piece of this pattern because I really wanted to stick to my original design.
Best pictures of my Rhino model
I’ve included a few of my better Rhino files’ like this axon above showing how its all put together, the make 2D perspective and a front and side view.
Rhino Rendering
Second Major Project
This one took me an even longer time...
To make this, I drew inspiration from an old painting I made and created this.
Wall Finish
Using a blanket pattern to create wall finishes
For this part I repeated the rhino shape and used that pattern to make a burned wood wall and a wall paper.
Final Project
Old news
I was dreding making this final assembly because I already made one that uses better material, but after I moved some of the shapes around I ended up liking the final result. Heres a pic of it on a table and hanging on my wall.
