UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON Past & Upcoming Activities Recap Introduction to CMGL Workflows Workshop UH-SPE collaborated with CMG to hold an "Introduction to CMGL Workflows" course. The course allowed students to learn the basics of reservoir simulations latest preand post-processing technology for CMG simulators. Participants received certificates for their attendance. Third General Meeting with Turbo Chem UH-SPE hosted its third general meeting with a presentation by James Berry on "Novel Techniques for Curing Lost Circulation and Achieving Zonal Isolation in Extremely Fractured Carbonates." This was a great opportunity for students to network and discover more about lost circulation in drilling. Thanksgiving Food Drive UH-SPE collaborated with UH SPWLA to host a canned food drive to give back to the community and feed those in need. Steps to Obtaining A Professional Engineering (PE) License UH-SPE hosted a presentation with Amjad Abdelrahman on the steps to obtain a professional engineering license. This talk covered how to become a professional engineer and the needed preparation for the PE exam. Practical Aspects of EOR Projects Technical Half Day Course UH-SPE presented a technical half-day course on the practical aspects of EOR projects, led by Dr. Ganesh C. Thakur. Students got the opportunity to widen their knowledge on EOR. Career Planning in Cyclic Industries UH-SPE hosted a talk with Dr. Ganesh C. Thakur on career planning in cyclic industries. This was a great opportunity for students to ask questions and receive tips on career planning. Technical Writing Workshop UH-SPE hosted a professional technical writing workshop led by instructor Jeanne Perdue. The workshop covered how to write a technical paper using SPE formatting and how to edit final reports, set up a table of contents and shortcuts, and more.

Second General Meeting UH-SPE hosted its second general meeting with Kongsberg to allow students to learn about digital twins programs and network with company representatives. UH-SPE STEM at Home Contest UH-SPE started its STEM at Home Contest in which UH and non-UH-SPE members got an opportunity to create a 10-minute experiment that thoroughly explains a STEM concept and that can be understood by kindergarteners through middle-schoolers. Thermodynamics of Phase Equilibria - Technical Half Day Course UH-SPE hosted a course with Dr. Birol Dindoruk on the "Introduction to PVT and Fluid Properties for Petroleum Engineering Applications." Students got the opportunity to learn different oil and gas fluid properties regarding pressure, volume, and temperature, along with their applications to the petroleum industry. Marathon Oil Information Session UH-SPE hosted an information session in partnership with Marathon Oil. This session gave students the opportunity to meet and network with company representatives and ask questions regarding the recruitment process. Machine Learning 101 in the Midland Basin UH-SPE hosted "Machine Learning 101 in the Midland Basin" with Ted Cross.
