Perhaps you are regular at cleaning your oven because it is something you can see is in need of more attention. After all, it is hard to miss those stains or greasy interior when you open the door. However, the hood is a different story. You don’t often peek inside it to notice just how dirty it is. And you can bet that it is going to be quite a mess since the job of the range hood is to collect grease. In time, the filter becomes so soiled that it loses its effectiveness. You may think that it is difficult to clean the range hood, but you are wrong. This article aims to guide you through every step of the process. All you will need for the task is some dish soap, some baking soda and boiling water in the sink. Yes, you will be using your sink for the job, though if it is too small, you can also use your bathtub. Without further ado, let’s get to it:
Remove the filter(s) from the hood – pretty much every type of filter out there is made so that it can pop out from the hood. Check your manufacturer’s instructions on this matter, if you cannot figure it out straight away. Fill your sink with boiling water – for this job, you want to use boiling-hot water. Be very careful when you pour it in. In some cases, the tap water gets hot enough, so you don’t need to heat up additional water or anything. In any case, hot water is ideal for dealing with grease, so that is one thing you have to prepare with. Pour baking soda and dish soap – the next step involves spicing up the heated water with dish soap and baking soda. You need about a quarter cup of baking soda and two squirts of soap. Get some tool to swish around, till you get the water all soapy for cleaning purposes. Place the filters in the water – ideally, you want to submerge the entire filter in the water. The goal is to have every part of the greasy surface in water. If you lack the space, you can first dip one half of the filter and lay it on the side, and then dip the other one, but that is going to take too much time.
