Biography LIAM ELLIOTT KANSAS MUSICIAN The 21 year old Kansas raised, LA based artist is a musical chameleon. His works bode an old soul, a classic feel, yet still providing a fresh spin on country and urban sounds. Drawing inspiration from artists like Juice Wrld, Trippie Redd, Post Malone, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Bryson Tiller, Ty Dolla Sign and the 2016 Soundcloud explosion, Liam displays a mature understanding of emotional relationships. What you see is what you get with Liam. He never shy’s away from vulnerability and delivers the truth of his feelings, exactly as they are.

His musical journey started early with other performing arts such as musical theatre and on screen acting ventures, which have led to cinematic visuals accompanying his recent releases such as “Lovesikk, Traumatized”, “EasterSundayFreestyle” and most recently “Nostalgia”.

The music itself feels cinematic due to his descriptive lyrics, and dynamic range of production.

Bouncing back and fourth between Los Angeles and Lawrence, Kansas, Liam has spent countless hours since 2016 in studio and on stage, as well as writing and producing for other artists. In 2024 Liam is shifting his focus to furthering cement his mission as an artist, furthering his story as he lives it.

Can you tell us about your journey from Lawrence, Kansas to California?

What inspired you to make the move?

Being able to move to California is a blessing, you know, having the family support out here is something to truly be grateful for because that really provided they opportunity. My Dad moved to Cali when I was in 6th Grade and we would visit him on Spring Breaks, Summers and Holidays. But yeah I got introduced to music when I was 12 and I could really get into everything that happened but basically I just started building a network and people saw the potential in me. I spent my freshman, Junior and half of my senior years of High school in LA and the rest in Lawrence Kansas. I was in Kansa during covid but as soon as it was over I decided that if I really wanted to chase this, that LA was where I needed. It was really the opportunities LA offered over Kansas. It was really hard though because Kansas is my home. My mom is still there in the house I grew up in, but regardless I’ll always where it on my sleeve.

By Brian Peters January, 2024 What challenges did you face when you first started pursuing your career as a songwriter and artist?

I think every artist would say something along the lines of self doubt or confidence. I mean in the beginning the music was trash, at least the stuff I made all on my own, and when I first came out to LA everyone was trying to turn me into a Bieber clone. Even when I was back home in Kansas just making music with my friends, we were all trying to sound like the hottest rapper. That’s all ok because imitation is where everyone starts but you do come to a point where the skill is catching up and you become a solid creative, yet you still don’t sound like whoever that person or people you’re chasing… But. Then you realize that they are them and you are you and the only thing that you can be is you and that’s a good thing. It’s easier said than done, freeing yourself from comparison, I still struggle and I feel like most do too.

Music song writer How did your experiences in Lawrence, Kansas shape your artistry and influence your music?

I definitely had some humble beginnings. As a little kid when both my parents were in the house, both had jobs, it was like a fairy tale. We never never hungry but money was always tight. I can’t complain at all though, I mean my Mom would take the shirt off her back for me and my sister, and my dad, if I ever needed him he’d be there. I’m absolutely blessed. I always found myself in diverse groups and even being attracted to diversity in terms of people and experiences so even though Kansas isn’t the most diverse of places I still found away to experience and understand a lot of different cultures.

Can you share a memorable moment from your early days in California that had a significant impact on your career?

Ya, I think there’s a collection of moments that really impacted me and validated my dreams, honestly. From that first song I made, to meeting celebrities in passing. I’ve been in the former CEO of WME’s house before. I’ve been in ridiculous studios and worked with some truly talented people. I just feel like I’ve had too many signs that this is where I’m supposed to be and the industry I’m supposed to build in. I truly feel that God has put me in those situations to affirm my choice to pursue music. I’ll say a thousand times; Im truly blessed and beyond grateful.

How did your experiences in Lawrence, Kansas shape your artistry and influence your music?

For me, it starts with the music. In my mind it has to, I mean this is the Music Industry. My primary job is to create great music, true art. I think that with TikTok and social media being where it is, we are seeing a lot of people who are just song makers and not artists and that’s where social media gets it’s bad rep in our industry. I still believe the top of top focus on making special music first and that’s where I see myself. Now that we got the important part out of the way, haha. Of course I’m making a ton of short form content to promote myself and I’m trying to keep that same mindset as I do with the music and make that content as artistic and meaning full as possible. This year I hope to do more shows and tap in to as many small social media accounts, blogs, radio stations, etc. to find the people that I can touch.

IS THIS THE NEW SOUND? Were there any specific artists or musicians who influenced your style and sound when you were starting out?

Absolutely, my mom was an immigrant so as a baby I wasn’t watching Coco Chameleon, we watched musicals like Sound of Music and I actually later was cast in musicals so I definitely think that influenced me. I listened to Pop, Classic Rock and Country radio as a kid and I discovered Rap and Rob later.

That’s the music I actually chose. Juice WRLD, Trippie Redd, Ty Dolly Sign, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran and Post Malone are definitely my biggest influences, as well as the 2016 SoundCloud explosion.

How do you feel your sound has evolved since you first started making music?

When I first started out I was imitating. Making stuff that sounded like stuff. I was rapping a lot with my friends and just having fun. Honestly, after I had my heartbroken I found my voice and since then I’ve just let whatever I’m feeling come out.

True to self Can you talk about any major milestones or achievements you've reached in your career so far?

I think just beginning is a huge milestone. Just releasing a song is something that should be celebrated with how emotional and vulnerable you have to be willing to be. I’ve played various shows at some significant venues like The Peppermint Club, The Virgil and Los Globos in Los Angeles and The Granda in Lawrence, Kansas. I still have so far to go at this point I’m keeping focussed on the next step in front of me.

What advice would you give to aspiring songwriters and artists who are looking to make their mark in the music industry?

I’d definitely stay patient. Make it a priority to be independent creatively. By that I mean to hone your skills from your instrument, to your production, your writing and your performance.

That creates a different type of freedom and control over your art and I think that can be the difference. Different is good. Stay Authentic and Obsess over the process.

How important do you think it is for artists to stay true to themselves and their artistry in a highly competitive industry?

For me personally, I’d rather fail being what I am vs. succeed being something I’m not, because one way you can actually make a difference in peoples lives and the world of music through entertainment. The other, you’re only entertainment.

Can you share a particularly challenging moment or setback you encountered in your journey, and how you overcame it?

A lot of the setbacks I’ve faced I’ve actually ended up being grateful for. For example when I was 13 and a deal fell through, I’m glad because I would’ve been built by someone else instead of myself. I think the biggest set backs I’ve faced have all been mental, internal things that I had to work through to progress, which is also a beautiful thing.

I might hear something from another artist that I really like and take that vibe into a whole different direction, production wise. As far as coming up with melodies and lyrics, I usually start by free styling. Sometimes I write better in silence strangely enough but I’ve gotten to the point that I have to hear it on the track to roll with it, especially if I’m in a room with other creatives.

Music is a collaborative art form. I went through a time when I moved to Cali for good in 2021 where I really didn’t have anyone to collaborate with. I just sat in my room all day everyday and eventually the creative energy was gone. There’s no one and nothing else to feed off of and that was tough. I would love to collaborate with anyone at the top of their game and see what I can learn from them, but to pick a few specifically, Justin Bieber, Ty Dolly Sign and Ed Sheeran would be insane to me.

How do you stay motivated and inspired to create new music, even during times when you may face creative block?

My life is my motivation. If I go into the studio with something on my mind, that’s when I create my best work. Other times, well most of the time, I’m drawing from past experiences or manifesting. Ed Sheeran said that if you are experiencing writers block you just have to write through it. If you think you’re writing a bad song, finish it, get it out of the way and continue to write. That’s the mindset I have towards writers block.

What is your favorite part about being a songwriter and artist?

I think the best part for me is the relief I feel when I let go of something that I needed to release.

Music is like a journal or a diary for me. Even if it’s just another song, meaning there’s nothing emotionally important in it, the feeling you get when you can listen back to a finished product is amazing. What takes it to another level though, is when a song actually resonates with someone else. That’s when I’m just in awe of the power of art and music.

BELIEVE IN YOUR TALENT How do you navigate the balance between staying true to your artistic vision and meeting the expectations of your audience?

I believe that staying true to myself is the expectation of my audience. If I continue to care about the quality and truth of my work that the people who listen will respect and support that. Not every song will be for everyone but I want the ones that are to make the difference.

Are there any specific themes or messages that you aim to convey through your music?

I’ve always said I want people to feel like they have a friend in me when they put on the headphones or bump in the car. I want people to learn from my mistakes and not feel alone if they’re going through something. I know a lot of times you can feel like you’re going crazy or that no one understands, so I want to be the person that does.

Can you share a moment or experience that made you realize that pursuing a career in music was the right path for you?

Too many stars have aligned for me to not be doing what I’m doing. From random encounters to random people reaching out on the internet and the people I’m blessed to have around me. I don’t doubt it anymore, I just keep my head up and get back to work.

How do you handle criticism and feedback from fans and critics?

I know when a hater is just saying something to hate and when someone is saying something because they want something better. I believe I’m not delusional in the sense that I’m not saying fuck you my way is the only way and I know best. I also have trusted friends and peers I have around me that I will bounce Ideas off or get opinions from.

What can we expect from you in the future?

Are there any exciting projects or collaborations on the horizon?

I don’t want to speak too much on the whole plan because I think somehow that makes things more unlikely to happen, but ya, I plan on releasing a ton of music in 2024 and I’m trying to present it with the content in a special way that I haven’t seen done before. Hopefully, and I’m more than open to, more collaborations in the future. Right now I’m pretty focused on me and doing everything I can do to make the best music possible but collaborating with other artists is super fun to me and I would love to make that happen. I also plan on doing more shows of course.
