How To Go From Side Hussle To CEO

So, you’ve been running your side hustle; late nights, weekend grinds, pouring passion into something that lights your fire. But now? It’s time for a shift.Ashift in how you think, how you operate, and how you show up.

The difference between a side hustler and a CEO isn’t just income, it’s identity. It’s confidence. It’s structure, strategy, and most of all: mindset! Let’s break down what it really means to step into your CEO role.

1. Think Like a CEO, Not a Freelancer

Afreelancer says, “I just need to make extra money.”

ACEO says, “I’m building a brand, solving problems, and growing something sustainable.”

>> The first mindset shift is about long-term vision. Stop thinking short-term cash grabs. Ask yourself:

- What is the mission of my business?

- Who do I serve?

- How can I scale?

2. Price Like a Pro

Side hustlers often undercharge because they’re afraid to lose clients. CEOs understand their value and set prices that reflect it. Your time, talent, and transformation you bring to others are worth investing in. The right people will pay for value and the wrong people were never your people.

* CEO Tip: Factor in your time, expenses, taxes, and expertise when pricing. Stop apologizing for your rates.

3. Build ABrand, Not Just AHustle

People don’t just buy products, they buy connection. Story. Trust. Your brand is how people feel when they encounter your business. It’s your messaging, visuals, voice, and values.

* CEO Tip: Get clear on your brand identity. What do you want to be known for? What experience do you give your clients?

4. Invest In Yourself

CEOs don’t wait for someone to give them permission. They bet on themselves. That may mean hiring a coach, attending a business conference, or simply making time to learn and grow.

* CEO Tip: Allocate a budget to personal and business development. Join networking groups, read business books, and stay inspired.

5. Own The Title

This one might be the hardest, but it’s the most important. Stop saying, “I just have a little business” or “It’s just a side hustle.”

Start saying: “I’m the founder and CEO of 'Your Business Name'.” “I run a successful business helping people do ___.”

* CEO Tip: Your confidence sets the tone. If you don’t believe in what you do, no one else will.

LivingFearlessly

Her Journey of Living A Fearless Life!

What does “living fearlessly” mean to you?

Not being afraid to try something new. Whether it’s leaving that job that makes you unhappy, getting on that plane and flying somewhere, or even going back to school. You must have faith. I was given a cup a few years back that said “make it happen” and that has become my motto. I often remind myself that everything will work itself out and it has. When I stopped living in fear I started to see the world differently. I jumped into a cave in Aruba and off a cliff in Jamaica the whole time telling myself “you can do this”. So living fearlessly to me is knowing that I can do it.

What drives you to try new things?

I grew up with four parents, (mom/stepdad, dad/stepmom) with both sets being together over 40 years. I was the youngest child among the two households and I observed everything. With them all living different lifestyles, I traveled a lot with them mainly by car or bus. They showed us life outside of Nashville. Now, even though they mainly worked the same job for years, my mom did a career change in my early twenties and I saw how much happier she was to leave her previous job. I noticed my siblings' growth from trying new things in their careers which fascinated me, so I would say my drive comes from my family.

What was it like stepping into the world of acting for the first time? I was asked to audition for the movie, and I hesitated at first. I then told myself “why not”. I followed the instructions, sent in a headshot, a recording of a role I felt was more suitable for me, then I submitted it. I was called in to audition and didn’t hear anything back so I reached out for feedback. I was told I did great but someone else with more experience got the part. They informed me that they were actually going to reach out for another role. I accepted and showed up for long nights recording different scenes or the same scene from different angles. I learned a lot and I’m so glad I tried something new and I did amazing.

How has motherhood shaped your fearless journey?

In 2002 I signed up for school to become a manicurist so I can set my schedule around having three children. When the fourth child arrived, I started to drive a school bus so I could be off when my children were out of school knowing daycares were so expensive and I needed benefits. After my divorce I wanted to keep that two income lifestyle going so I started looking for jobs that paid more. I interviewed at companies like Bridgestone and Nissan, in which I was hired by one and called in for a second interview with the other on my starting date. I’m more of a driver than a warehouse person so I ended up driving the city bus. I was asked to drive a coach bus taking a group of TSU students to the Million Man March in Washington and then a church to Orlando with them allowing my children to come. I spent everything I made on that trip taking my children to Universal Studios and enjoying Florida but they were proud to see mom driving that bus and the amusement park of course. I feel like I showed my children a fearless life and I can proudly say they paid attention.

Her Journey of Living A Fearless Life!

What advice would you give to women who feel stuck or scared to take the next step in their lives?

Have faith and just do it. You cannot be scared to live. Think about what you have always wanted to do and figure out how you can accomplish those goals. Research, take a coaching class, or even join a group with similar interests may help you figure things out. Stop listening to negative advice and surround yourself with positive thinking individuals. Remember you are not stuck, you are scared of failing. You can do this.

You’ve created community in so many different spaces. How important is that connection to your journey?

The connections that I have made over the years are the reasons I have elevated. I believe I was in those places just to meet the right people to get me to where I have been and guide me to my next journey. As I think about it, every new journey has been because I was invited somewhere and connected with someone that gave me the opportunity to experience something new. I’ve heard that you should keep your circle small but sometimes that keeps you stagnant if you do not have the right people in your circle.

s next for you in this fearless life you’re building?

m going to keep the next journey a little hush hush while I put things in motion. Sometimes I go into my quiet space like a writer so I can think without any distraction. I will keep putting myself in positions and continue to connect with the right people. This new journey is definitely a fearless one.
