FOREWORD

Dear esteemed SPE Colleagues and friends, 2023 Section Chairperson, SPE Lagos Section

It gives me great pleasure to present the 2022-2023 newsletter of the SPE Lagos section. This past year, the SPE Lagos section achieved great strides and sustained its culture of promoting technical excellence and professional development while fostering industry collaboration and sustainability. We celebrated a significant milestone, #SPELagosat50, in grand style, showcasing our achievements over the years and sharing our plans for the future.

Our goals focused on promoting technical and professional excellence, strengthening industry collaboration, engaging the various demography of SPE Lagos members, supporting our community, and ensuring the sustainability of the SPE Lagos section.

Promoting Technical and Professional Excellence

The programs this board year were fresh, relevant, and specially curated to enhance technical competence and meet the professional needs of our members, irrespective of their age group or career status

Our technical symposiums brought together stakeholders in the industry to discuss topical issues affecting the Nigerian oil and gas industry, including a session to address the menace of crude oil theft in Nigeria and propose strategies for a lasting solution. Another session discussed the critical need for capacity building and an approach to creating a sustainable energy future for Nigeria as independent companies rise to the challenge of taking on operatorship of divested assets.

We held numerous distinguished lectures, monthly technical meetings, and rigorous technical training sessions for our senior members, young professionals, and students. We covered a broad range of subject areas, facilitated by distinguished resource persons and subject matter experts from different companies Students, recent graduates, and young professionals were exposed to career-related discussions, equipping them with the skills to navigate their careers. We accomplished this through targeted soft skill development training, leadership

development workshops, career fairs, Ambassador lecture programs, and other webinars aimed at helping SPE members build requisite skills to stay relevant in the industry. The student members gained firsthand industry knowledge through a mentorship series with industry CEOs of leading E&P companies and an NCDMBsponsored trip for the #SPELagosLego team members to Bayelsa state, Nigeria. Leadership development sessions held for section officers and volunteers equipped them with the skills to balance the demands of personal, professional, and volunteering life.

Innovation, Sustainability, and Celebrating #SPELagosat50

We implemented programs to ensure the financial and operational sustainability of the SPE Lagos section. We reintroduced company-sponsored board meetings to drive SPECompany partnerships, obtain company management commitment to drive SPE membership within their companies and improve participation in SPE activities

SPE LAGOS SECTION 61 | 50TH ANNIVERSARY 10

To build a robust pipeline of active SPE ambassadors andvolunteers, we issued, for the first time, a call for volunteers and embarked on a strategic volunteer recruitment drive, providing SPE membership renewal sponsorship for active volunteers.

In celebrating , a #SPELagosat50 memorable lineup of programs was curated to draw the participation of various generations of members, from founding fathers who were instrumental to the progress of the oil & gas industry and SPE in Nigeria to industry captains and decision-makers, including its diverse demography of senior professionals, young professionals, and students. We interviewed founding members of SPE Lagos, including the 2013 SPE International president, Egbert Imomoh, to tell the story of how SPE Lagos started and the journey so far These interview recordings are on the SPE Lagos website and YouTube page and will serve as a future reference on the history of SPE in Nigeria. We ran the #50factsaboutSPELagos and #MySPELagosstory campaigns to educate and provide more insights about SPE and to share the experiences and contributions of members and volunteers to the success of SPE Lagos

The celebrations of #SPELagosat50 were held from March 24th to 26th, 2023, and commenced with an inaugural golf tournament to unite all cadres and generations of

industry members. The Young Professional (YP) cocktail connected YPs and senior professionals in an informal setting to discuss honestly the realities of today's YP. The novelty football match promoted community games, sportsmanship, participation in SPE activities, and industry collaboration.

In line with the SPE core mandate, we held a technical lecture themed “Building a Profitable & Resilient Energy

Future for Lagos State: Oil & Gas as an Enabler” to discuss how oil and gas can be used as an enabler to ensure sustainable energy for our home state, Lagos State. This lecture featured a Guest of Honor Address from the 2013 SPE International President, Egbert Imomoh, and a keynote presentation from Engr Olalere Odusote, the Honorable Commissioner, Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. Our highly distinguished panel members delivered on the promise of the lecture to propose strategies, address challenges, and share best practices utilizing oil and gas as an enabler to promote the energy aspirations of Lagos state.

The highlight of the anniversary celebration was the #SPELagosat50 Anniversary Banquet to recognize the historical achievements and members of the SPE Lagos section. We reflected on the journey thus far, celebrated the founding members and past leaders of SPE Lagos, and

showcased the exemplary contributions of volunteers and partners who have been instrumental to our growth and development.

We launched the SPE Lagos Scholarship fund to attract, support, and retain the talent pipeline into the Energy industry. We achieved this through the generous contributions of First Exploration and Production Limited (First E&P) and other individual SPE members

Through this partnership, we aim to achieve the following:

Ÿ Increase Access to Higher Education: The program seeks to address the financial challenges experienced by talented students and ensure that financial constraints do not hinder their access to higher education.

Ÿ ·Prepare Talent for the Oil & Gas Industry: By providing scholarships to encourage and grow participation in STEM subjects

Ÿ Foster Academic Excellence: By supporting outstanding students, we aim to encourage and nurture their intellectual growth, helping them achieve their full potential academically.

SPE LAGOS SECTION 61 | 50TH ANNIVERSARY 11

Promote Social and Economic Development:

By investing in the education of young Nigerians, we aim to contribute to the development of skilled professionals who can positively impact society and the economy.

We welcome additional sponsorship from corporate and individual partners to sustain the section's commitment to continuing the scholarship program.

Collaboration and Community Impact

This year, the section intentionally built new strategic partnerships while strengthening its existing relationships to drive sponsorships, improve membership and meet community needs.

The section collaborated with other SPE sections in Nigeria to co-host technical programs and with other societies to promote STEM education, provide leadership training, empower women through support for SMEs, and equip children with the resources to return to school. These societies included the International Women's Society, Forte Foundation, Isrina schools, Kids Beach Garden, and the Exxon Mobil Women Interest Network. This year, we impacted over two hundred children from low-income communities with our programs focused on promoting STEM education and provided back-to-school resources for over 100 children.

The section completed the #runforenergy project initiated last year to provide 5kW Solar Power to an underserved community in Lagos State. Through our collaboration with AllOn, an energy access and impact investing company, and the generous contribution of other companies and individuals, we installed and commissioned the solar power project at Ken Ade Primary School and the surrounding Makoko community on November 4th, 2022. The project has helped to provide access to renewable energy for the underserved school community benefiting over 700 children and powering more than six classrooms, offices, computers, and other appliances.

Diversity and Inclusion

As a section, we have continuously demonstrated our commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in our industry and community, driving discussions to spotlight and address the issues of diversity in our industry and empowering women to succeed in their endeavors.

Last year, the section introduced the Diversity and Inclusion position as a board position to expand the reach and impact of our D&I initiatives. We continued to facilitate educational sessions at the International Women's Society (IWS) through relevant panel discussions to equip graduating students with the skills to succeed in their businesses and support SMEs through the provision of seed

funding.

We held a D&I week on “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Trio Critical to Energy Sustainability.” It comprised a webinar that attracted vital stakeholders across the value chain and challenged companies and institutions to pay attention to creating a more diverse environment. The informal lunch and networking event enabled young engineers to network and engage with senior professionals and mentors. These events emphasized the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in achieving energy sustainability, focusing on the Nigerian and African contexts. They highlighted the role of leaders in creating a culture of belonging, making a business case for DEI.

In this edition of the annual newsletter, we showcase the many exceptional events we held this board year and our achievements over the years. We also spotlight our volunteers, sponsors, and partners who have worked tirelessly to make this SPE journey successful.

It has been a privilege to lead such an energetic and exceptional team of board members. Together, we impacted our industry and community in a significant way. I am very proud of all our achievements. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to excellence and service.

contributions for granted. I appreciate you all.

Your most memorable experience being a part of SPE Lagos.

I consider my most cherished experience as a member of SPE Lagos to be the first time I attended the annual general meeting in 2021. What is your favorite thing about SPE?

Joining SPE has been one of the most wonderful decisions I’ve made. I have been opportune to meet with great minds and opportunities. I was one of the first benefactors of the SPE Women Development Program, winning a sponsorship to NAICE in my final year in university. I was awarded a cash prize, and met a large chunk of the network I nurture today. Through SPE, I have met great mentors and friends

Senior Members’ Interview

Tell us your SPE story. How did your journey in SPE start and how did the society start in Nigeria?

I graduated in 1968 as a mechanical engineer, and I was trained by Shell at the university. Aer my graduation, I went to Holland for an intensive program, for about ve months, where they trained people with dierent engineering backgrounds, aer which I came back in December 1968 and got employed as a Well-Side Petroleum Engineer. I worked at Warri till 1972, that was during the civil war, till I was transferred to Lagos as a Production Engineer. At that time, it became obvious that I could not register under COREN because I was not practicing as a mechanical engineer

Fortunately, there were friends in the industry, one in particular, Tunde Onikpede, who had studied in America and was familiar with SPE. He oated this idea of having an SPE section in Nigeria and it sounded very plausible and attractive as I wanted to be a part of a professional Engineering body and since I did not practice as a mechanical engineer, but as a Petroleum Engineer, this proposal sounded great. So, Tunde Onikpede who was working with Gulf then, brought this idea and some of us who were around then, came together to form SPE Nigeria. at is where it all started, in 1973.

What were the challenges and how were they tackled?

e challenge is like every newborn baby. You have to nurture the baby, a lot of attention, recruit new

people, and many others. I was nancial secretary as at that time and we also had to educate people because SPE was not well known and we needed to get people involved and interested. We also had to get corporate bodies to see what SPE entails and what we were doing, organize conferences, what we called bare-knuckle type conferences as against the amboyant types we do now in Eko Hotels. So that was the early start and the challenges we had then.

In those early formative years of SPE in Nigeria, what was the main driver of your commitment to SPE?

For me, I just wanted to belong to a professional entity and aer making such commitment, one had to nd time to do what we had to do. Later on, as I started going higher in Shell, I had to nd a way to balance my time for both work and society, SPE. So, that challenge was always there, having to ensure that neither my work nor SPE work suers.

Do you think successive leaders have done well with running SPE in Nigeria since you handed over?

If you look at what has happened in SPE, as a sect, when we started rst, we used to scramble to hold our conferences, as regards now when we even have three-course meals during conferences. At that time, things were basic, but we enjoyed ourselves. We were young, committed, so indeed over time, the successive leadership of SPE has been able to move the society to greater heights. e quality of conferences, the attendance at these conferences, support gotten from industry, venue

of these conferences, the big exhibitions and any other things. Overall, there have been growth. Also, the fact that some of the SPE leaders in Nigeria serve in various committees in the international body is also amazing, and there is the fact that the themes of the various conferences which have been held over the years are current, particular to issues in Nigeria and the people that address these themes are those that have been able to inuence change and indirectly this means that SPE Nigeria have been able to impact industry.

Your SPE resume is unmatched. What were the top three qualities that made you rise to the position of SPE president? Tell us about your most memorable experience as a member of SPE Lagos. Did your involvement in SPE help or shape your career in any form?

Whatever I do, I give the best. For me, what is memorable is the fact that a lot of us, young and committed ones gave themselves and their time to ensure that SPE was moving forward. One negative moment I remember was when most of the young ones had a disco party and we were supposed to host the SPE president the day aer

ey did not show up to the meeting until late morning and I was very livid. But you know, we have our ups and our downs, so it is ne and that was a long time ago. en, Africa used to be part of Europe in SPE and in the wisdom of SPE International, they decided to carve out SPE Africa Region.

Senior Members’ Interview

So, I was sitting in my room one day and received a call asking if I would like to be the rst SPE Africa Regional Director. en, I was Deputy Managing Director and the question was how can I combine that amount of work with what I was going to be doing as SPE Africa Regional Director. However, I went to SPDC and we analyzed the implications, consequences and all, and they gave their approval.

Back then, it was harder as we had to carry les up and down, with limited use of emails and all, but I did the work for three years and I found the SPE board very exciting. Aer my three years as African Regional Director, I thought it was time to retire and enjoy, but lo and behold, I got a call to be nominated for SPE president.

Aer the whole nomination and application, I was elected as 2013 SPE International President and it was fascinating. It was three years

which I thoroughly enjoyed. I got to see the young and old chapters, student chapters, as well as visit all kind of places. I enjoyed every bit of it.

Currently, I am the President for the Board of Trustees, which combines all past presidents. So overall, the journey have been an exciting one.

e challenges SPE faced in the last 50 years will dier from the challenges ahead of us in the light of the current Energy Transition wave. ere have been some challenges with declining membership and people questioning the need to remain an SPE member. What key factors do you think will be responsible for the sustenance of the SPE members?

You have to nd balance in your life. ere are four main areas you need to nd balance in: family life, professional life, religious life and sporting life. Fortunately, I have

With Engr. Ade Afolabi Founding Member, SPE Lagos & 1977/1978 SPE Lagos Section Chair

been able to nd that balance, and I have realized that it is balance that enables you navigate the challenges you talk about because then, you are able to put the challenges in perspective. So, the end point is to look for those things and essentialities that cannot bounce back and do not let it drop.

You have had an incredible enjoyable career path; from joining Shell in 1968, rising to the position of Deputy MD and serving as a senior corporate adviser on Nigeria to founding Afren and currently serving on various boards, how did you navigate the murky waters of corporate life? What will you say to young professionals looking to reach the peak of their careers?

Money chases where it has the best return on investments and the capital has to go back to where it came from.

On the Relevance of SPE

You are recognized by your activities in the SPE as an engineer. Having attended SPE International conferences in America several times, I felt that we could start something of that nature here in Nigeria. So, I went to NTA in Victoria Island and told the Nigerian community that we are

going to start this seminar which would be titled “Know the Oil Industry”

e objective was to enlighten people about the oil industry; what it does, what it stands for But for SPE activities, this country won’t be as strong in oil and gas as it currently is. So, SPE contributed

quite a lot; SPE was right there during the oil mining for peace, and was also inuential as technocrats during the laying of oil lines from Excravos to Kaduna, to mention but a few

With Koffi Sagoe Member, SPE Nigeria Council BOT & 1984/1985 SPE Lagos Section Chair

Tell us your SPE story. How did your journey in SPE start and how did the society start in Nigeria?

I have always had interest in joining societies, so when I came into Mobil, a lot of sta were SPE members and also, we had some of the SPE Distinguished Lecturers as members of the servicing companies as well. When I heard that they were meeting, I ensured to participate. So, that was basically how I started. Aer a while, the services company's representatives started moving out and we took over because we had people from the NNOC that were very much interested and having these people made things easier for us because they represented government in a way and aerward, we got licensed and that was it. SPE allows us to meet a lot of people from dierent companies and know how to organize things. SPE was an avenue for us young engineers at that time to get adequate information, enabling us to interact well with each other

As the 9th section chairperson of SPE Lagos, what was the main driver of your commitment to SPE? How was the section in those days? What were the challenges and how did surmount those challenges?

Some of the challenges I had at rst was the fact that I was the rst Mobil Producing Nigeria representative serving as a Chair in SPE and I was not yet at management level then, so it took Mobil by surprise. Fortunately for us, all the foreign guys then were not so interested in SPE, making it a

challenge for me due to the sensitivity of information that I had exposure to. Asides these, in some of the meetings, we had governmental representatives whose discourse was sometimes in controversy to the operations of these IOCs, causing a slight discomfort. So most times, most of my speech had to go through public aairs and all, but it was all good.

Looking back on the last 50 years since SPE activities began in Nigeria via SPE Lagos Section, how do you think the society has inuenc3d the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria? Is the industry in Nigeria better for it?

Initially, we had more of government ocials who were in the right place and as such they were able to inuence some certain decisions and also give information about some certain decisions that had been made. SPE helped a lot especially in putting together major policies and bills, like the PIA bill, that has overtime shaped the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria.

Tell us about your most memorable experience as a member of SPE Lagos. Did your involvement in SPE help or shape your career in any way or form?

Well, my most memorable experience as a member of SPE Lagos will be when I became the Section Chair of Lagos Section, and at that time it was Lagos section that was handling most of the activities. In my career, because of SPE Lagos, I learnt how to be a crisis manager

e challenges SPE faced in the last 30 years will dier from the challenges ahead of us in the light of the Energy transition wave. ere have been some challenges with declining membership and people questioning the need to remain an SPE member. What key factors do you think will be responsible for the sustenance of the SPE?

is is a good question, and I am not too sure why there is a decline in membership. I think one thing can be the fact that there is now more concern on carbon capture, climate change and all. I think it is important that SPE continues with its Catch em Young Programs and reaching out to the younger ones as that will help a whole lot.

You had an incredibly enjoyable career path; how did you navigate the murky waters of corporate life? What would you say to young professionals looking to reach the peak of their careers?

I think in corporate life, you need to be able to know how to manage crises. You need to learn how to play politics, but if you do not, be content. Just make sure you are good wherever you are.

2023 INTERNATIONAL PETROLEUM TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE, BANGKOK, THAILAND

GBENGA AWOJIRIN - UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN

Earlier this year, I was fortunate to be one of 50 students selected to attend the 2023 International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) in Bangkok, Thailand, from February 28 –March 3. As a student with a petroleum engineering background, this is one of few game-changing opportunities we get to not only physically meet and interact with students from other parts of the world pursuing similar course of studies, but is also a platform to network with leading industry professionals and experience a new culture. Think of a global melting pot for students and decision-makers in our corner of the energy industry, and IPTC will fit that bill.

I've always heard people say “there are opportunities and benefits that accrue to being an SPE member.” Well, now I can always attest to how true that is. My application for IPTC 2023 started with being nominated by my student chapter's faculty advisor. And not only did my membership open this door for me, but my activities as an SPE member were also instrumental in structuring my essay application. Most of the achievements, leadership, volunteer and extracurricular activities I alluded to in my application have one way or the

other being in connection with my student chapter, SPE University of Ibadan, and the SPE Lagos Section. I also got tailored advice regarding my application from professional members I am close to.

Experiencing Thailand was a culture and aesthetic shock for me. It is a different lifestyle and different system of doing things over there. Getting to meet fellow students from other regions who had to adjust as well was my saving grace (lol).

The Energy Education University Student Programme (let's just call this EEP going forward) was tailored to include activities not included in the conference programme. We started with a meet-and-greet session where we formally met other participants and the programme's organizers. Our second day was a field trip to the research center of Thailand's national oil company (PTTEP), the PTTEP Technology and Innovation Center (PTIC). It is one thing to read about decarbonization and sustainability policies and projects, it is another to be in the same space and interact with scientists and engineers who are building the technologies that power these initiatives

The next three days were spent

in the company of fellow EEP participants, roaming the halls and ballrooms of the conference, attending programs on the EEP agenda, and sneaking off to the exhibition hall whenever we got the chance to admire Aramco's captivating stand and PTTEP's impressive autonomous underwater vehicle. Over the course of these 72 hours, I got to meet some of the names we memorize for PetroBowl; Medhat M. Kamal, Mr. Kamel BenNaceur, Jean-Marc Rodriguez, Helge Hove Haldorsen, Montri Rawanchaikul, to name a few. Roundtable discussions revolved around energy and societal leadership, social skills, and decarbonization and sustainability trends in the industry.

Similar to SPE's Train-theTrainer programme, we also had an Energy Education Workshop that had us working in groups to complete interesting experiments. This was an exercise in camaraderie and team-bonding that I particularly enjoyed.

Through this conference, I have made connections and still remain in touch with member of what we like to call the 2023 Cohort. Some of the opportunities I have applied for since then has been from the friends I made at this event.

Through them, I also get regular glimpses into what life in their different countries is like.

Attending the 2023 IPTC EEP has paved the way for quite a number of interesting conversations I have had since returning back to Nigeria. Seeing

the work being done at PTIC also helped solidify my interest in pursuing career paths that will help me lend my voice and talents to sustainability initiatives and be a part of those unraveling the climate change puzzle.

Will forever be grateful to the organizers of IPTC, the sponsoring societies that made my participation possible, and to my local section SPE Lagos and student chapter, University of Ibadan, for providing me with platforms to increase my visibility.

Getting selected for participation in the Energy Education University Student Programme at the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) 2023, in Thailand was hairraising. I was shortlisted as one of the 50 student delegates, from a large pool of applications around the world. The conference was held in Bangkok, and it was a great opportunity to learn about the latest trends in the industry, network with energy enthusiasts and professionals, and experience Thai culture firsthand. Beyond the wealth of knowledge I gained from the conference, I had an awesome time exploring the city of Bangkok with other delegates, especially those who were natives. One of the highlights of my Thai-xperience was the visit to Chulalongkorn University, one of the top universities in Thailand. I and other delegates got to take a tour of the University's Faculty of Engineering, most especially, the Department of Mining and Petroleum Engineering, where we met the Head of Department, took pictures, and eventually got to experience 3D printing technology at the 3D printing Lab, where souvenirs were produced for all the visiting delegates using a 3D printer. Also, we visited the university museum and a few other historical conservation buildings, which had incredible exhibitions of well-preserved history and culture. Other notable

experiences I had while exploring Thailand with other student delegates included e local cuisine, attending musical concerts, and enjoying a variety of cultural activities. We also visited the Chatuchak Weekend Market, where we found everything from souvenirs to delicious cuisine. We commenced our line-up of activities with the Briefing and Welcome Dinner, which featured an icebreaker and a meet-and-greet session. It was a perfect avenue to get familiar with the names of most of the delegates, especially my group members.

On the next day, we had an industrial visit to PTIC, the research and development wing of PTT Exploration and Production Company. We were introduced to multifarious technologies covering Oil and Gas Production; Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU), such as the development of carbon nanotubes from carbon dioxide to produce battery, sensor, or electronic device components; robotic technologies for subsea inspection, repair, and maintenance; inspection drones with AI-enabled platforms; and the recycling of waste into valuable materials, including upcycling drill cuttings from petroleum exploration and production processes into construction materials for road and sidewalk paving as a substitute for asphalt. The conference featured educational technical sessions, thought-

provoking interactive sessions, an insightful train-the-trainer (Energy4Me) programme, as well as networking opportunities.

I was delighted to meet and exchange contacts with a couple of Nigerian professionals, who were around to present technical papers at the conference and are doing so well in the industry. I was also opportune to connect with a professor, who is a faculty member of my dream school, as well as with other bigwigs in the industry. Also, I visited the booths of top companies in the petroleum and energy industry. I learned about their cutting-edge technologies, participated in games and Kahoot sessions, won prizes, and got several souvenirs. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) 2023 in Thailand.

The Energy Education University Student Programme is a once-ina life time opportunity that should be applied for, and harnessed by all undergraduates who are energy enthusiasts Along with my academic background and other relevant qualifications, harnessing the robust opportunities presented by SPE Lagos to volunteer surely gave me an edge during the application process and consequently helped me get selected. Volunteering actively in SPE ushered in a path of selfdiscovery for me. It created a

platform for me to impact as much as I wanted to, improve my leadership skills and my ability to work with a team, and as well, helped me get other opportunities and recognitions One of the notable ones was receiving the SPE International

Award of Excellence with my chapter, during my tenure as President.

My volunteerism added so much flavor to my application. I want to seize this opportunity to appreciate SPE FUTA and SPE

Lagos for the opportunities, experience, and support. Lastly, I beseech members to actively participate and work towards meeting the objectives of the organization.

As a student member of the SPE Lagos Section, I have been privileged to benefit from the section's scholarship scheme on multiple occasions. The scheme has been instrumental in enabling students like myself pursue their academic aspirations without financial constraints. I was particularly grateful for the 2022 SPE Lagos Undergraduate Award, which arrived at a time when I was saving up to purchase a new PC. This would not be complete if I failed to acknowledge the support I received from the section during the 2022 SPE paper contests

As a woman in the workforce, it's not always easy to find a work environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion. That's why I feel incredibly lucky to work for the SPE Lagos section, who not only supports my professional growth but also recognizes and celebrates the unique perspectives and experiences that women bring to the table. I want to take a moment to reflect on the ways my Section has been a supportive and inclusive workplace.

I want to the section a happy birthday and express my appreciation for all that they do to support and empower the chapter

In my second year, I was given a scholarship by the Section for outstanding performance in STEM. This recognition motivated me to invest more in my academics and to participate in SPE activities. While I have been involved in various technical activities during my time in school, I had never had the opportunity to build my communication and leadership skills. However, through SPE FUTA, I was able to participate in Energy4me experiments, Ambassador Lecture Programs (ALPs), and SPE Cares

programs which allowed me to engage with a large audience and communicate effectively. I am grateful to SPE Lagos Section 61 for their continuous support, which has contributed immensely to my personal and professional growth. On this special occasion of their anniversary, I extend my appreciation to the Lagos Section and wish them a happy anniversary!

These engagements have helped me build valuable competencies in leadership and problem solving to demonstrate career readiness. Mosorire Aiyeyemi

President, SPE-University of Lagos

Having little to no knowledge of the oil and gas industry as a freshman in the university, SPE offered me a platform to expand my knowledge, build experience and develop my skill set within a short period of time. I always looked forward to the monthly technical meetings, excursions and conferences. Participating in these outings as early as in 200 level really formed the foundation for a lot of the things I've grown into. Being a member of SPE has undeniably given me a great start to my career trajectory and has brought clarity to the ways I can position myself in the ever evolving, rapidly changing energy landscape. I also do not take for granted the professional network I have built, the mentors gained, and the friendships formed in the process of being a volunteer

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the SPE Lagos section, I want to, first of all, appreciate the section for continuously delivering value to its members. The support and commitment to our all-around growth have been tremendous. My final word to student members reading this is, there's a lot of value in service and SPE Lagos remains one of the best communities to do just that. Thank you SPE Lagos Section. Keep blazing the trail.
