Personal information        

Full Name: Hosam Magdy Mohamed El-Hanafy Academic Year: Third Year Department: Petroleum Engineering Department E-mail: hosammagdy3030@gmail.com Mobile Number: 01008102791 Current Position in SPE SU SC: Chapter Treasurer & Business Development Manager SPE ID: 5122754 Date of Joining SPE SU SC: September 2019

General Questions 1. State your purpose for applying for SPE Presidential election showing the value makes your purpose unique and what you will gain personally and professionally from this position.

“SPE SU SC is a brand of every student seeking self-development” From day one at Suez University, I do believe that joining SPE is an honor for any student who studies the oil and gas field. Three years ago, I stopped being one of those leaders, professionals, volunteers, etc. Throughout the first year, I have been included in some tasks then before the second year, I had the passion to be something different in such a great entity. I said that it was my turn to serve my Family (SPE) and help the students in the faculty so I applied to be Business Development Head. Two years ago, as Business Development Head, I faced many challenges which played a vital role in my character and made me manage things better especially in the presence of Covid-19. We made many projects throughout the season and I built a good team that can be good in the next seasons. Last year, as SPE Suez Treasurer, I met new people, lived different days, and confronted challenges that I never expected to face at my age, and we always had to make the best decision in a short amount of time. This season, I believe, has changed my character more than the two years before it because of the challenges we faced, and I am sure that next year I will learn more because the challenges will increase . When I joined, I did not only choose the BD committee but also determined my path to be one of the leaders. Now I am here to be the President of SPE to achieve my dream which has filled my nights since I joint SPE. Now my road to professionalism-not only gaining but also inspiring- begins. I always believe “impossible is nothing”. No one can believe that a group of students could make such great achievements. I am seeking of SPE presidency to give back some of what I have gained from SPE and every single moment I lived with such a team.

SPE SU SC Presidential Application 2023

Personally, Being SPE President in my fourth year in SPE will help me to build my character, enrich my skills and enhance my abilities. In this position, I will face many challenges which require quick and accurate decision-making. Professionally, this position will widen my look towards the field and engage me in several aspects that will help me to go faster through my career path and strengthen my abilities in critical thinking and decisionmaking ability. Being in contact and deals after deals with great companies in our field will-with no doubtextend my network and knowledge about the industry.

2. Mention the core competencies and experiences that make you the best candidate for Presidency. Core Competencies I have many competencies because I participate in many activities and go through various challenges. Some of these competencies:

 Communication: acting of transferring information from one person to another and trying to bring out the best in every team member.  Creativity: create new ideas and turn them into reality.  Delegation: developing my team and making them do the best and finding the strengths of the members, delegate with VIPs, and make them support us.

 Leadership: developing my team and putting strategies to achieve our goals.  Hardworking: My belief in what I do makes me committed and able to work permanently without getting bored. This helps me to enjoy my volunteering work and execute my work professionally.  Analytical thinking and problem solving: finding the best solution to the problem.  Loyalty: feeling responsible for my team and our tasks. In such entities as SPE, the volunteering word needs a high level of loyalty which in role spreads the spirit and confidence among the entity members.  Persuasive: being able to convey my ideas and influence others.  Persistence: try, try, and try and you’ll finally succeed.  Adaptability: quickly adapt to changes and retain productivity.  Passionate.  Flexibility and adaptability.  Negotiation Challenges we face every day are what shape our personalities and sharpen our fighting tools, i.e. skills and abilities. That’s how I acquired these competencies which I believe make me unique and suitable for the position, by facing the challenge and getting out with new skills or values learned.

 Head of scientific and technological committee in our faculty’s union. 3. Describe your Leadership Style, and state how it’s going to be suitable for SPE Suez University Student Chapter. “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader”. For me, it is about the situation, for every situation you must deal with and show a suitable style. A successful leader can never have a mono leadership style. I mainly prefer the Democratic style because democratic leaders include team members in the decisionmaking process. They encourage creativity, and people are often highly engaged in projects and decisions. As a result, team members tend to have high job satisfaction and high productivity. I do believe in talking with my teammates and sharing them in making the decision. Democratic leaders can provide the highest productivity by considering all their team members’ thoughts. Coaching style: this style is necessary to support, educate and develop members and prepare them well for the future. Nevertheless, Sometimes-Authoritarian style must be used. This type of leader is someone who is focused almost entirely on results and efficiency. Leaders often make decisions. It can also be beneficial when used with employees who need a great deal of supervision—such as those with little to no experience.

4. Please mention the strengths and areas of development in your personality. How are you willing to capitalize on the strengths and improve the areas of development? Strengths and capitalizing on them are mentioned in Question 2. If we stopped learning, we stop living. Being SPE President requires me to develop myself to achieve my goals.

Areas of development  Work/life balance: Participating in many activities and doing many tasks in the chapter sometimes makes me distracted from my family and friends.  Setting priorities and accomplishing them as soon as possible to give me the opportunity to enjoy time with my family.  Stress management: When I have a lot of stress, I feel angry and become in a not good psychological state.  Working on completing tasks one by one and thinking practically and logically.  Time management: I think I can manage my time well, but being SPE President will require me to manage more and make better plans.
