Eight years ago, Phil was in a life-changing motor vehicle accident that led to the amputation of his left leg below the knee
He spent six months at home, focusing on building a strong mindset one that would guide him through this new chapter of his life.
Since then, Phil has made it his mission to teach and guide not only amputees but also able-bodied individuals who struggle with developing resilience and willpower. Through public speaking, training, and his personal journey, he aims to help others build confidence in their own lives.
Phil wants to share the strategies he used to stay strong and how he overcame the risk of falling into depression.
One of the first goals Phil set for himself while in the hospital bed was to make it to the Paralympic team. It was a huge, intimidating goal but that’s exactly why it motivated him to get up every morning and push forward
Surrounding himself with like-minded people, great coaches, supportive friends and family, and an incredible team including SPAO, Ottobock, the Sprint Academy, EMF Gym, and Active Movement Studio played a crucial role in his journey.
Fast forward to today, and Phil is running personal bests of 12.23 seconds in the 100m and 25.04 seconds in the 200m He knows he’s only getting better.
There are still ups and downs, but whenever he feels like giving up, he reminds himself why he started this journey in the first place.
The Power of Resilience and Community - If there’s one thing Phil has learned, it’s that it’s okay to take a break when needed but it’s not okay to stay down. That’s when the mind starts to spiral, and thoughts of giving up can take over That’s why he believes in setting goals so big they scare him goals that force him to get up in the morning and chase them
For anyone going through a similar journey, Phil wants them to know they are not alone He encourages reaching out to loved ones and a strong support team. Building a community a team that has your back ensures that when challenges arise, there are people to lean on for strength and support.
Keep up with Phil’s journey follow him on Instagram @philgoodnation.
Stay strong. Keep pushing. The journey is worth it.

At just 10 years old, Ruby is a powerhouse of energy, determination, and joy. She doesn’t just embrace life she takes it head-on, proving time and time again that nothing can hold her back.
Every weekend, you’ll find Ruby at nippers, tackling the surf and strengthening her skills in the water But that’s just the beginning. She’s recently started training with the Australian Power Chair Hockey Team, a testament to her incredible drive and love for sports. She also participates in power chair soccer, sailing, and surfing, making the most of every opportunity to challenge herself and have fun
One of Ruby’s greatest joys is proving people wrong. If someone says she can’t do something, she’ll do it and she’ll do it with a smile She’s fearless, always willing to try something new, whether it’s a new sport, a new activity, or simply making a new friend.
At school, her favorite thing isn’t just learning it’s socialising, laughing, and sharing stories with her friends She also has a flair for the dramatic, with a love for drama and dancing, she recently participated in the Wakakirri National Story-Dance Festival for Schools. For the past four years, Ruby has been a valued client of SPAO Ottobock Care, using a Knee/Ankle/Foot Orthotic to maintain range and position in her legs. Through it all, she has built a special bond with her clinician, Andy, whose famously terrible Dad jokes always manage to make her laugh (even if she won’t always admit it!). The team at the Wollongong clinic couldn’t be prouder of how far Ruby has come and can’t wait to see where her adventurous spirit takes her next. Ruby is a reminder that limits exist only if you let them She’s not just chasing her dreams she’s making them a reality, one step, one wave, and one goal at a time.
Keep shining, Ruby! We’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.
