Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing so ware like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Avgiv ¯ú›`bwe ! We are SpaandanB!
“A lile help goes a long way.” A lile of your help has mulplied, grown, and touched millions of lives in Bangladesh and locally in the San Francisco Bay Area over the last 25 years!

Now, at the start of our 25th year, we would like to take a moment to express our sincere acknowledgment and gratude:
To the resilient communies we serve – you are our true heroes
To the dedicated donors like you – with your tremendous, unwavering support we have helped millions in need
To all our partner organizaons in Bangladesh and the United States – we have been able to make big impacts with our limited resources due to our immensely valuable collaboraon
To the Bangladesh Office, Advisory Commiee, and volunteers – with your dedicaon and sincerity we have been able to build trustworthy infrastructure for expatriate Bangladeshis to make an impact in Bangladesh
To the Execuve and Advisory Commiee members in the United States – we thank you for selflessly dedicang your me, effort, and commitment
To our local youth volunteers – your acts of kindness when giving back to your local community inspire us all
Over the past 25 years, we have been moved every single day by the connuing support and belief in our mission from all of Spaandan donors, well-wishers, and supporters.
“United, we transcend barriers in order to create just and equitable access to education and health for disadvantaged people in Bangladesh, and to give expatriate Bangaldeshis an accessible and trustworthy platform to give back to our motherland.”
We see 2023 as the year of reflecon, renewal, and recomming to our core values. United, we transcend barriers in order to create just and equitable access to educaon and health for disadvantaged people in Bangladesh, and to give expatriate Bangaldeshis an accessible and trustworthy plaorm to give back to our motherland.

The needs of the underprivileged populaon in Bangladesh are enormous. Due to our limited resources, we face different challenges every year, but our goal is to ulize these resources efficiently and effecvely to make a lile help truly go a long way. We believe with all of your support we can achieve this dream together, and we won’t leave any of our currently supported students and beneficiaries behind.
This is our everlasng commitment.

SpaandanB is a non-profit organizaon that started in 1998 with a donaon of $150 for burn vicms admied in DMCH by a small group of expatriates living in California Bay Area, USA. Over the years, it has grown to encompass a variety of projects in the fields of educaon, health, and poverty alleviaon in both urban and rural areas.
One of the organizaon's first projects was the Rural Talent Advancement Program (RTAP), which began in 2004 and involved selecng secondary school students for scholarships. Since then, SpaandanB has expanded to include educaon assistance programs, the establishment of schools for economically disadvantaged populaons, and support for health iniaves like the Badhan-Blood Donaon program and Trauma Link program.
SpaandanB also supports poverty alleviaon programs like Jesmin's vermicompost project and the Nokshi Katha project, which employ rural housewives and promote financial solvency. The organizaon also manages around 20 educaon scholarship programs.
SpaandanB has grown significantly over the years, and its success can be aributed to the reless efforts of its members to raise funds and support their various projects. Despite being located thousands of miles away from the communies they serve, SpaandanB's impact on the lives of those they work with is both sasfying and encouraging.
"From a small donation to a large impact, SpaandanB's journey is a story of hope and transformation."
“When I came to San Francisco Bay Area in 1997 there were no Bangladeshi nonprofit organizations, so there was a vacuum; by founding a nonprofit, SpaandanB filled that vacancy and soon started winning local Bangladeshi’s heart”.

I would like to congratulate all members and donors of SpaandanB on their celebraon of silver jubilee. Being one of the three who thought of founding this organizaon with their USA expatriate friends in early 1998 I feel blessed and fortunate.
The name SpaandanB, was my brainchild, spondon in Bangla means vibraon or beang usually of our heart, came in my mind from the thought that our hearts would always vibrate with patriosm. The last leer, Capital B, is for Bangladesh.
The name SpaandanB, was my brainchild, spondon in Bangla means vibraon or beang usually of our heart, came in my mind from the thought that our hearts would always vibrate with patriosm. The last leer, Capital B, is for Bangladesh. When Sultana Begum, one of my batchmates from BUET, and I started the idea of forming a USA nonprofit we also brought a third friend, Mohiuddin Mazumder, who would break the e in case of any impasse or deadlock during a decision making process. Soon I was fortunate to get consent from two more friends, Iqbal Yusuf and Mustafiz Rahman, to join us in the core team of SpaandanB. When I came to San Francisco Bay Area in 1997 there were no Bangladeshi nonprofit organizaons, so there was a vacuum; by founding a nonprofit, SpaandanB filled that vacancy and soon started winning local Bangladeshi’s heart. Sultana, and I opened our first bank account at Naonal Semiconductor Credit Union as both of us were working at Naonal Semiconductor by deposing $150. Sultana and I contributed $50 each and another $50 came from Flora Apa, sister-in-law of Sultana, from Gainesville, Florida.
While I was looking for ways to register SpaandanB with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a US 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, Sultana came up with SpaandanB’s first project to support few students with $10/month, to help them connue their elementary school through another Bangladeshi NGO called SUS (Samaj Unnoyan Sangstha) headed by Prof. Sultana Zaman.

The second project was to support Bangladesh Probondhi (disabled) Foundaon, third was to support a Bogra-based rural NGO called CEMPAR for its Poultry and Livestock project in Sherpur Upozila. I think the fourth project was to help Dhaka Medical College Burn Unit to setup its first OT and also give about $5K/year to poor burned paents to purchase dressing accessories, ointment, and medicines through Dr. S L Sen, the head of Dhaka Medical College Burn Unit back in 1999. The first public fundraising of SpaandanB was in 1998 Ramadan held at Cuperno Senior Cizen center and we were able to raise about $25K. By 2003 SpaandanB undertook about 15 small projects in the field of educaon, health and socioeconomic development with a yearly budget not more than $50K.
As you all know it is not easy to ask others to contribute for a cause that they are not passionate about. In SpaandanB’s infancy, we did not have track record that we could sell to donors. I sll remember in the early days I used to talk about acvies, mission and vision of SpanndanB at events of Bay Area Bangladeshi Associaon (BABA), when other members were sll not spontaneous. However, I had strong hope about SpaandanB’s growth and acceptance by others. At least for me I think, one event helped me to steer the new organizaon. My second drama “deshe fire cholo.com” staged in 2000 was an astounding success and got A+ review from a crowd of 500+. This success helped me to get acceptance in greater and bigger Bay Area Community. I leveraged this success to win the heart of the local community for SpaandanB. One day I told my team that there would be me when others will feel proud to be an execuve member of the organizaon; based on the reality today I feel I was not wrong.
In 2003-2004 I came to know Dr. Imdad Khan and his wife Mrs. Sitara Khan closely. Dr. Khan was known to be a great local philanthropist but his contribuon for any Bangladeshi cause was not commensurate to his wealth and giving record. Dr. Khan founded a private foundaon, The Khan Family Foundaon, in 2003. My inmacy with Imdad uncle and Sitara Aunty brought posive outcome for Bangladeshi students. SpaandanB was trusted to launch a $120K/year scholarship program in Bangladesh for undergraduate students to pursue Engineering, Science and Medicine. This scholarship project originally proposed as “The Khan Family Foundaon Scholarship” by Dr. Khan was named “Imdad-Sitara Khan Scholarship (ISKS)” by me. It would be unfair if I don’t menon the contribuon of two persons, Prof. Dr. Humayun Kabir, former Dean of Zoology Dept. Dhaka University, and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ali Choudhury, of BUET Electrical Engineering Dept. Both of them accepted my invitaon to serve as the vice chairman of the ISKS steering commiee in Bangladesh.
Aer the demise of Dr. Manan, the first chairman of ISKS commiee, Prof. Kabir assumed the posion of the chairman and Prof. Choudhury the vice chairman. Prof. Choudhury served as the vice chairman of ISKS commiee since incepon through 2018, unl his death. Also I would like to remember Dr. Steven Guest, a US nephrologist, who became one of my close friends, who contributed a lot to promote ISKS in Bangladesh in its early days. This project I believe helped SpaandanB to increase its execuon capacity and take more projects with bigger budget. Dr. Khan became terminally sick in 2005 and in June 2006 he le us for his heavenly journey. I used to see him almost every other day when he was in Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Santa Clara, almost for a year. I would like to pay our profound gratude to these noble persons.
SpaandanB came a long way to flourish in 25 years and has become possibly one of the best nonprofit organizaons founded in USA by expatriate Bangladeshis since 1971. It is not easy for any nonprofit organizaon to survive and keep the momentum of growth for years. We got tremendous support from our beer halves some of whom also joined as acve members. Personally, I got uncondional support from my wife, Shamima Shimu; without her support I think I would not be able contribute much to humanitarian and social work. To create any nonprofit organizaon, it requires selfless dedicaon and sacrifice from all members of a family, they have to spare voluntary me from their busy and hecc schedule. Ishmam, my elder son, and other kids of our core team made big sacrifice for SpaandanB, so I would like to extend my hearelt thanks to all these kids who are all grown up now. Ishmam is 25 years old now, same age as of SpaandanB.
I was acvely involved with SpaandanB unl 2014, and sll feel proud of its every accomplishment and success. Today, it is run by leaders I know who are really honest, selfless and passionate to give back to have-nots and underprivileged.
I wish SpaandanB every success and hope it will celebrate its golden jubilee when probably lot of us will be very old if sll alive. I fervently pray that it will be an organizaon which will be synonym for selflessness, honesty, humanity and for spirit to pay back to roots in a tangible and profound way.
“ I am indebted to my late parents' sacrifices. They are the inspiration behind SpaandanB’s humble beginning”
- Sultana Begum, Founding Member, SpaandanBAlhamdulillah! All praise belongs to Allah.
It gives me immense pleasure to see SpaandanB members pung their utmost efforts every day to provide for the deserving, underserved people of Bangladesh. It is not an easy task to keep the dreams of impoverished children alive with the hurdles that they must overcome in life. SpaandanB helps to overcome these hurdles with compassion and clarity.

Personally, I am indebted to my late parents' sacrifices. They are the inspiraon behind SpaandanB’s humble beginning. I come from a family of eight siblings, Alhamdulillah, and my mom’s ever smiling and all-embracing atude to accommodate anyone’s need within baba’s honest and limited income inspired me from a young age. Despite our humble staon in life, there were always guests residing at our home for their studies or for treatment purposes, and we have seen monthly amount allocated even for distant relaves. Due to his job, Baba was constantly moving from one factory to another and we always found ourselves in a new town, in an unknown school with unfamiliar faces, and an uncharted neighborhood. But one thing was constant. We always found both Maa and Baba building safe and joyful communies wherever we resided. Whether it was taking part in Gollachut, Shat Charaa with dozens of children in Pakshi’s vast open field, starng badminton tournaments in Rayer Bazar or founding the Eaglets Cricket Club, Maa and Baba made sure that we always had a sense of community. They simply lived for others, and that is what we have strived to do through SpaandanB.
May Allah accept all our parents in His good pleasure.
I sll hear Baba’s voice, coming from the other side of the Pacific Ocean, telling me to return home, but “ll then, let us build a team here to give our brothers and sisters a lile push and hope they need”.
I wish nothing but success to SpaandanB members, volunteers and beneficiaries, far and abroad, both in this world and hereaer. Ameen.
Running since 2003, this proj ect has been providing schol arships and educational infra structure support to meritori ous students of rural areas to improve the quality of learn ing. One of the goals of RTAP project is to create role models out of Delduar students them selves who can prove that success is possible even among all the di iculties of their lives. Besides the contin uous ground work of Spaan danB Dhaka o ice and our partner organization, Spaan danB EC families visit Delduar every year and interact with students, teachers, and parents. With little help, guid ance, and motivational support, these hard-working students, teachers, and parents are ready to build a better future not only for themselves, but also for their

GREEN APPLE DAY OF SERVICES
Since 2013, SpaandanB has been sponsoring Green Apple Day event as St. Joseph High School in Dhaka, bringing a global environmental movement to Bangladesh to encourage children to create productive learning environment within their schools by planting trees, writing essays and becoming aware about conservation of resources.

Iniated by Audiya Community Educaon Project in 2021, Aynerkotha.com is a plain Bangla language informaon portal for all Civil Rights issues pertaining to Bangladeshi cizens. Quarterly lectures form legal scholars, development of reader friendly informaon and publicaon of a booklet for Children on constuonal Rights are few of the achievements in the short span this project has been launched.

Be it the The Baishakhi Mela, The concerts, Walkathons or Arts and Cras Sale, SpaandanB fundraisers are always about showcasing the triumphs and resilient beauty of Bangladesh, Bengali culture and people power! From the long me expatriates to the newest world cizen Bangladeshi children, the events are filled with reminder of a glorious past and promising future.

SPAANDANB-TRUMALINK PARTNERSHIP: INNOVATION ADDRESSING TRAFFIC INJURIES
TraumaLink was founded in 2013 with the goal of creating a community-based network of volunteer first responders for tra ic injury victims.
The service uses an emergency hotline number and 24-hour call center with local Volunteer First Responders who are trained in basic trauma first aid, given essential medical supplies, and dispatched to crash scenes through mobile phone text message notifications.
TraumaLink began formal operations in November 2014 and now has 916 volunteers, both men and women, operating on 227 km on three major highways in Bangladesh. They have treated 5,000 patients involved in almost 2,700 crashes and have a 100% call response rate. In almost 90% of cases, their Volunteer First Responders are at the crash scene in 5 minutes or less.
Through the generous support of SpaandanB's donors they have already trained and equipped 245 volunteers, both men and women, who are now providing coverage along 62 km of the Dhaka-Chaogram Highway from Kotbari Bus Stand, Cumilla to Dhum Ghat Bus Stand, Chagalnaiya, Feni.

Work will soon be underway on the next phase of the project, extending coverage another 22 km to the Nizampur Bazar, Mirsharai Upazila.
TraumaLink recently entered into a formal partnership with the Directorate General of Health Services for the “Development and piloting of scalable model on post-crash response to reduce morbidity and mortality from road tra ic injuries in Bangladesh” through the support of the World Health Organization, Bangladesh.
