t’s going to be a very busy festive period for one Greenwich based actor.

Daniel Boys - who lives in Charlton - is playing the leading role in a new musical called Nativity.

the performers to keep the essence of the film, “In the show, we are allowed to improvise just like in the movie. Obviously we have to know what has to happen in the scene, but we can say whatever we like as long as we are telling the story.”

And it boasts an all-star cast too, with West End favourites Simon Lipkin (The Wind In The Willows, Guys and Dolls) and Sarah Earnshaw (Spamalot, Wicked) joining Daniel and a large juvenile ensemble.

“The kids are amazing. Debbie [Isitt] had this brain wave idea of casting real primary school kids; they’re not stage school kids at all; most of them have never done anything before in their lives, but it brings such an innocence to it and they are just so good. Kids are so good at just saying what they’re thinking; they’re so honest and that’s what makes it so enjoyable, so funny because they are just brutally honest and a joy to watch.”

So if you are after a really Christmassy theatrical treat, Daniel assures me you can’t go wrong with Nativity The Musical.

“I think it’s basically the ideal

Based on the 2009 comedy film, Nativity The Musical follows the fortunes of Mr. Maddens and Daniel explained, “He’s a primary school teacher who hates Christmas and tells his friend, who’s a rival primary school teacher, that Hollywood are coming to see their nativity just to annoy him. But his classroom assistant Mr. Poppy hears this and tells the entire city that Hollywood are coming, so it’s basically about how I get that to happen.”

Originally from Yateley in Hampshire, Daniel Boys has lived in the Greenwich borough for 12 years and says of the area “I love it.”

Daniel trained at the Guildford School of Acting and Drama and became a household name after appearing on the BBC talent show Any Dream Will Do. “It’s ten years ago now. I can’t quite believe it!”

Daniel told me.

But he admits the profile it

gave him helped with his career progression and the relationships formed during the show have endured, “I’m very good friends with Lee Mead, who won the competition.” In fact, Daniel told me he was staying with Lee when Nativity The Musical was in South End. Daniel has gone on to become one of the most recognisable names in the British musical theatre scene and has starred in some of the biggest shows in London including Avenue Q and Spamalot.

Fans of the film version of Nativity - which starred Martin Freeman, gained cult status and went on to have two sequels – won’t be disappointed either and Daniel tells me, “I loved the film, so to get the chance to be in the musical version is so exciting, but slightly daunting, I suppose because people who loved the film are coming to see it and have their expectations. It’s scary for us to win over the audience with our versions of the characters.”

Eltham's rust belt O

ver the next few weeks, visitors to Eltham will be able to see a unique exhibition at the SE9 Container Gallery. The award winning gallery - which is made from converted shipping containers, situated in the school grounds of St Thomas More Catholic Comprehensive School in Eltham – is displaying an exhibition by Tamsin Corrigan.

Tamsin is a visual artist based in Oxford, who is currently working with metal oxidation and rust.

Her exhibition - entitled Rust and Bone - focuses on overlooked and everyday materials and processes. Using a number of different chemicals and transfer mediums, Tamsin allows the rust to mark canvas and paper, but ultimately the process happens with little control, so the result is always a surprise.

Her work becomes a collaborative process, between the materials and herself, resulting in pieces that embrace the unseen nature of materials and object-oriented ontology.

The outcomes are often mixed media and are interdisciplinary, combining chemistry and art.

Tamsin's work questions inanimate matter and its relationship with other objects.

The Shard’s annual festive light show returns on Monday 4 December as the top 20 storeys of the building illuminate the London skyline for a fifth year. esidents can get their (ice) skates on quite literally at this year’s Woolwich Winter Warmer on Saturday, December 2.

The event, which is spread across General Gordon Square, Beresford Square and Powis Street from 12noon to 6pm, will include a rink, ice carving demonstrations, live festive music, reindeer and owls on display.

There will also be a puppet show bus, fairground rides, street entertainers and craft taster sessions from Artfix café.

There will be a lantern parade from Powis Street, arriving at General Gordon Square at 4.45pm in time for the lighting of the Christmas tree. The parade will then continue, arriving in Artillery Square at 5.25pm, followed by a firework display to conclude the festival on the Royal Arsenal.

The fun will continue between 4pm and 8pm in the Royal Arsenal’s Artillery Barracks where RARE will be having a free ice skating rink open to all ages. The rink costs £5 for adults and £3 for children. There will also be food and drink stalls, a live music stage and other entertainment. The

Christmas tree in No 1 street will be lit up at 7pm.

There will also be informal consultations for the Woolwich Creative District in Building 41.

A free lantern workshop for the Woolwich Winter Warmer will take place on the day, from 11.30am to 2.30pm, in the Woolwich Library, Wellington Street, SE18 6HQ. Greenwich's Cabinet Member for Culture and Creative Industries, Councillor Denise Scott-McDonald, said: "The Woolwich Winter Warmer is set to be a fantastic event for all the family. There will be something for everyone - from fairground rides, ice carving to live music.

ho says you have to have a roast dinner on a Sunday?

Well, I for one am all about breaking the traditional British mould, so I decided to sample a different Sunday lunch at Rixos Mediterranean Bar and Grill on Eltham High Street.

From the outside you get a good idea of the quality of design that will greet you upon entering. But nothing can quite prepare you for just how beautifully decked out the interior is (despite the fact that there were some interior improvements underway the day I visited) and as you cross the threshold you are immediately hit with a feeling of opulence. Plush leather upholstery and dark wood coupled with modern copper fittings give a lavish and relaxing ambience.

The extensive menu offers a range of dishes from Turkey and the surrounding Mediterranean countries, with sharing options and dishes for those with smaller appetites all available.

As I was dining alone, I selected a fairly modest meal and went for a single skewer chicken Doner (served with rice and salad). When I say modest, I’m not referencing the quality or the portion size I received. In fact, I was delighted with the large serving and despite getting a very generous amount of chicken, it was so beautifully seasoned and cooked, I really didn’t want it to end. I also indulged in a cheeky lunchtime alcoholic beverage, as it was the weekend and washed my delicious lunch down with a bottle of Peroni.

My only very slight negative was the volume of the background

music. The Mediterranean rhythms helped to evoke a holiday feeling, but at times some of the tracks with a heavy baseline, were a bit imposing.

Anyway, that aside, I had a very chilled weekend experience, which I will definitely repeat.
