Last chance: Shop London’s largest contemporary print fair There’s still another weekend to pay a visit to the sixth edition of Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair at its new permanent home at Woolwich Works. In addition to shopping for prints from the likes of Yinka Shonibare, Mark Quinn and Chris Levine, visitors can make the most of a programme of activities including yoga, cocktail parties and family workshops, all of which are taking place in the art-adorned space.

All little ones will receive a sandwich, a drink and some fruit (saving you some meal prep!) and the café is open for adults, too. Doing it like Frank Ocean In 2011, Grammy-winning musician Frank Ocean shared a letter he wrote to his five-years-ago self, explaining his current success and how he got there. The result was moving and inspiring in equal measure. Inspired by this, the Albany in Deptford with theatre-maker Ryan Calais Cameron (Retrograde) is hosting a night where up-and-coming writers, poets and theatre-makers will do the same, sharing what they would tell their younger selves about their journey. Head to General Gordon Square in Woolwich for the all important Christmas lights switch on. As well as a chance to see the Christmas tree twinkle, get involved with festive workshops, shop for presents at the Christmas market, steel yourself to go on some fairground rides (or let any brave little ones test-drive them for you) and soak up the atmosphere with seasonal songs, and meet and greets with Christmas characters.

Thamesmead and Bexley illuminated Emergency Exit Arts are at it again, dazzling south-east Londoners with another visual spectacle. This one, Light the Way, is a mile-long illuminated light trail connecting Thamesmead and Bexley, for which a group of local artists have created site-specific public art installations. Walk the trail and keep your eyes peeled for artworks along the way.

The route runs from Abbey Way, linking Lesnes Abbey ruins to Southmere Lake.

Greenwich Peninsula hosts A Christmas Less Ordinary

is running for three weekends only (December 4 -19), within a space reminiscent of an enchanted forest.

Each screening seats at least 50 guests, and there will be popcorn and a bar so visitors can grab something to nibble on during the film. Tickets start at £5 and there are film and street food packages available for £10 - £15.

Greenwich Peninsula continues its bid to become a creative neighbourhood attracting visitors from far and wide by hosting A Christmas Less Ordinary. Yep, forget Santa’s grottos and carol singing (for now, at least), and instead prepare to be immersed in an award-winning light installation, feasting workshops and festive movie nights. Holly O’Mahony speaks to Kaia Charles, Senior Cultural Projects Manager at NOW Gallery and Greenwich Peninsula, about the inspiration behind the programme…

HOM: I hear there are also live artists performing as part of the winter season. Can you tell us any more about the line up? ©©Tim Hampton

Holly O’Mahony: As part of your festive programme, you’ve got the award-winning immersive installation specialists Squidsoup bringing one of their acclaimed light shows, Wave, to Greenwich.

Can you tell us more about this?

Kaia Charles: Squidsoup’s installations push the boundaries by creatively illuminating public realms in unexpected ways. Through Wave, a 500-part voice and light experience in the form of a dynamic, sculptural wave, visitors and residents alike will experience a multisensory, interactive artwork that captures the imagination.

shown elsewhere, including at Burning Man festival in the US and at Salisbury Cathedral. How is the installation being adapted for the space at Greenwich?

KC: We’re so excited for Wave to come to Peninsula Square. In situ, the artwork will create a new dialogue between key buildings in the neighbourhood, including The Gateway Pavilion, home to NOW Gallery and the new Design District Canteen.

HOM: How will visitors be able to interact with Wave?

KC: Wave will create a focal point and spectacle (and will be very

instagrammable) but it will offer so much more: the piece is accompanied by a 500-voice audioscape that visitors will experience as they walk through it. We’re hoping it provides a very different kind of illuminated and immersive experience during the winter season.

HOM: The peninsula is also hosting workshops at Design District Canteen. Tell us more about these?

KC: There are lots of workshops to enjoy, including BRIK’s chocolate bauble workshop (December 14 & 18) and wreath-making with Bloom East (December 1, 5 & 7). Both workshops offer attendees complimentary hot

chocolate or mulled wine. There are free drop-in workshops as well: check out sustainable knitting and yarn-making with Beth Claxton (December 4 and 5) and card-making with Collage Club on the following weekend (December 11 & 12). While there, tuck into festive menus provided

by Canteen’s traders, including turkey and cranberry arepas or turkeys kati sliders, and a mug of delicious mulled cider from the Hawkes hut.

HOM: There’s also festive screenings being held in the C1 building. Is this an entirely new cinema venue?

KC: Award-nominated jazz pianist Ashley Henry headlines the second ‘Peninsulist Presents: Winter Jazz’ event on December 10, hosted by Bureau Restaurant with Design District. At the remarkable age of 25, Henry was made a guest resident musical director for both London’s Jazz Café and Ronnie Scott’s. He will be supported by rising musicians Rosie Turton and Cherise.

All aboard the comedy ship!

Ready for a right laugh? Comedy returns to Cutty Sark this Sunday, with ‘Stand-up and Be Funny’ finalist Jasmin Gleeson hosting a cluster of the circuit’s rising stars as they perform their latest material. Among those taking to the stage is Helen Bauer of Live at the Apollo acclaim.

Also performing is Jamie Allerton, a Liverpool Echo New Comedian finalist, and Daman Bamrah, who audiences might recall from the BBC’s New Comedy Awards. to the lower deck’s Michael Edwards Studio Theatre, where the evening of laughter awaits.

theatre This week, an international, touring production of the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical is making a stop at Bromley’s Churchill Theatre. In the cast is popstar Sinitta as Matron ‘Mama’ Morton; Darren Day (We WIll Rock You, Doctors) as Billy Flynn; Djalenga Scott (Annie, West Side Story) as Velma Kelly; Joel Montague (Waitress, School of Rock) as Amos Hart; and Coronation Street’s Faye Brookes (Dancing on Ice, Grease) as leading lady Roxie Hart.

Faye Brookes tells the Weekender about her experience of swapping the screen for the stage and returning to her musical theatre roots. ..

Set amidst the glamorous highs 1920s, Chicago charts the unexpected rise to stardom of housewife and nightclub dancer Roxie Hart, who murders her bit-on-theside, endures a stint in jail and manages to convince the public and her rival cellmate Velma Kelly that her case was blown out of proportion by the sensationalist press.

“It’s proper Chicago,” grins Faye, when we speak. “It’s stripped back, it’s sexy, it’s got all of the nuances from the film but it’s got this energy only live theatre can grasp.”

How does she find the experience of conjuring that energy every night after four years of portraying Kate Connor in the long-running soap opera Coronation Street, where scenes would involve multiple takes but never under the scrutiny of a live audience?

“I think everybody forgets my training is in musical theatre and that’s my bread and butter,” she points out. “I love having a

new audience every night, and seeing the show change and evolve. It keeps it fresh and it keeps me on my toes,” she laughs.

lockdown, by which point Faye realised the show was a lucky opportunity to continue working – one she couldn’t turn down.

Faye loved her time on Corrie and says she wouldn’t change it for a second, but adds: “with TV, it’s one of those things you can keep going over and over with different takes, but it’s completely up to the editor how it’s portrayed, so I have no control. Yes, I can control what I bring to the character and how I say my lines, but once it’s done, it’s done.”

“I was eating, sleeping, breathing, ice,” she recalls. “We were also the only production in 13 years that had to perform without a live audience and we felt at a loss the whole time. That was the one thing that was missing,” she says.

Faye competed until the end, eventually coming second in the competition.

“Skating is a skill I’ll never forget,” she says. “It felt like a real family. I am so excited for all the new contestants because they have no idea what’s in store for them. It’s the best thing I did and before they know it, it’ll be over.”

Chicago, on the other hand, is a long, nightly journey for the actress, and all the more rewarding as a result. “When I get to the end, it’s so worth it. All of the highs and the lows. I stand there at the end and take my bow, and that’s my validation for what I’ve done,” she says. While the vast and anonymous national audience would respond to her role in Corrie via social media, “with a show, I can instantly feel the audience and there’s no other feeling like it. That to me is just golden,” she beams.

While many in the performing arts sector were forced to down their tools for most if not all of the pandemic, Faye was asked to compete in the 13th season of ITV reality show Dancing on Ice, in which a cast of celebrities are taught to figure skate by Olympic champions, competing each week in front of a panel of judges and the public watching from home.

“It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my whole life but also the best thing,” says Faye, who had previously said Dancing on Ice was the one show she would never feel brave enough to do, with the risk of injuring herself in a fall. But the call came during the

As Faye sees it, the job of the cast is to transport the audience back to the roaring 20s each night. “I just want to capture the magic that really was alive back then and the desperation of [the female characters’] careers; they wanted that dream so badly. I hope the audience gets to share that dream,” she says.

Chicago’s rooting in the true crimes reported by Maurine Dallas Watkins, whose 1926 play of the same name inspired by the musical, lends an added pressure to doing the story justice with each performance. “Because it’s a true story based on people’s lives, you don’t want to put a foot wrong, so you’re giving

it everything you’ve got,” she says.

There’s no break for Faye, either. When Chicago pauses for Christmas, she’s off to play the titular role in Snow White, this year’s pantomime at the Hull New Theatre. But for now, the actress is firmly in the murderous, social-climbing heels of Roxie Hart.

Having signed on the dotted line to perform in it for a full year, Chicago is another feat of endurance for Faye.

The show has travelled to Edinburgh, Bradford, Hull and Southampton so far, and is going on to Dubai in the new year.

“I get one day at home a week to be with my loved ones and I get to have my doggies on tour with me, but I’m not complaining, that’s what we’ve signed up for and I feel so lucky to be working. It keeps my relationship with all of my family very precious,” she says.

Faye’s favourite song in the musical is the tongue-in-cheek opener to Act Two, ‘Me and My Baby’. “It comes out of nowhere… It’s not a show stealer but it’s one you remember,” she says. “You get taken on a real journey with Roxie, from the moment she steps on that stage to the moment she finally gets to perform with [nightclub singer] Velma Kelly.

Roxie is a one in a million kind of role.”

Few local Christmas traditions are as enchanting or unique as Greenwich’s advent windows, which are returning for the 15th year running. Organised by St. Alfege Church, the event sees 24 windows across the town centre present a unique display centred around one main theme, which this year is ‘Brighter Visions’. One new window is revealed each day between December 1 – 24. Once all windows have been ‘opened’, visitors have until January 2 to see them.

Holly O’Mahony speaks to advent windows coordinator Maureen Stapleton about the visions shining out from this year’s windows…

Holly O’Mahony: The Greenwich advent windows are now in their 15th year. What can we expect from the 2021 event?

Maureen Stapleton: The wonderful and comforting thing about traditions is you can rely on their steadfastness every year, and the advent windows in Greenwich is no different. I think everyone wants to feel optimistic about 2022 and the windows will reflect that.

I’m looking forward to seeing some really joyful interpretations, just like always, along with all the wonderful efforts of the local schoolchildren and businesses. I know many people now have a Christmas tradition of walking around to see all the windows, and some people travel to Greenwich especially to see them.

HOM: For context, in case anyone reading is new to the area, what are some recent highlights?

MS: Last year we had some truly spectacular efforts that really impressed me. The best one wasn’t even a window, but more of an outdoor art installation. A family on Park Row called their display ‘Light at the End of the Tunnel’ and they mounted a long plastic pipe through the olive tree in front of their house that people could look through. When

you peered inside, it showed a syringe with the COVID-19 vaccine in it. Two days after their window went up, the first person in the U.K. received the very first dose of the vaccine.

Another fantastic window last year was mounted on Maidenstone Hill and it was called ‘Give Me a Wave!’

The owner installed a television in her front window, and put on an endless loop a video of two friends making Christmas cake over Zoom.

It was delightful and captivating.

HOM: Every year, there’s a different theme for the windows.

What's the theme for 2021 and why did you choose it?

MS: Our theme this year is ‘Brighter Visions’. It was chosen by the new vicar of St. Alfege’s Church, Reverend Simon Winn. It’s a phrase from the third verse of the Christmas carol ‘Angels from the Realms of Glory’, where they sing: ‘Brighter visions beam afar’. He said: “The verse seems to beckon them to ‘brighter visions’ in Bethlehem. It would be appropriate for our creative team as we dream, pray, hope for and create ‘brighter visions’ in 2022.”

HOM: It sounds very fitting! How is the theme being interpreted by those taking part?

Grand designs: Greenwich’s live advent windows are peeping through the curtains

MS: The names and ideas I’ve seen seem to suggest that people are embracing optimism. Several advent windows feature the word ‘Joy’, which I find incredibly cheering. The St. Alfege Children’s Church called their display ‘Wonder and Joy’, while the family at 59 Randall Place want us all to ‘Find the Joy’. James Wolfe Primary School, whose Randall Place campus will be window number one, is asking its pupils to look ahead and create art out of their good intentions for 2022, which is also the name of their window. The family at 51 Hyde Vale, who mount an amazing automaton every year, have called their window ‘Brighter Visions, Better Ways’. I can’t wait to see their dancing figurines accompanied by music.

HOM: Can you give us an overview of who's participating this year? Any returning favourites or new names?

MS: We have an unbelievable core of people who have done an Advent Window every year since our very first physical calendar in 2007.

Once again, we’ve got several local landmarks creating windows, including the Cutty Sark, Greenwich Picturehouse and Greenwich Station.

This year, for the first time, Greenwich Theatre is designing a window. I

can’t wait to see what the creative minds at the theatre will create and I’m excited that the theatregoers of Andrew Pollard’s panto will get to admire it. Most of the local schools will be doing their own windows, which is always special. I need to give a special shoutout to all the other businesses who will be doing a window, including Karen Woolven Flowers, Tailor & Forge, Pickwick Papers, Ben Oakley Gallery and the Village Shop on Royal Hill.

HOM: You usually design your own window. Any hints on what you’ve created this year?

MS: One of my favourite Christmas memories is getting very dressed up and going to see The Nutcracker when I was five. When I learned that the theme was ‘Brighter Visions’, I immediately thought of the story’s central character Clara, who imagines a whole world around her nutcracker coming to life. Who has a brighter vision at Christmas than Clara? I hope other people like it.

HOM: Any tips for making it around all of the windows in one day this year?

MS: My first tip for walking around the windows is to figure out a logical route to see them all. We tend to start at the

windows furthest out and then finish near the town centre. My second, and more crucial tip, is to make sure you finish near a Greenwich pub so you can rest your feet and continue your Christmas celebrations. We estimate it takes between two and three hours to see them all. The Greenwich Runners have a tradition of running around them, so I’m sure they’re much quicker.

HOM: After a turbulent but admittedly less isolating year than 2020, what does it mean to have festive traditions like the advent windows to enjoy?

MS: After almost two years of stress and uncertainty, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to be optimistic about the future. I can’t wait to once again walk around Greenwich and be filled with the Christmas spirit by way of the advent windows. I know it cheered me up enormously last year when we were in yet another lockdown, and I’m looking forward to enjoying it this year as we try our best to return to normality.

Stay Warm Stay Safe this winter

Stay Warm Stay Safe is an initiative in partnership with Royal Borough of Greenwich to help local residents heat their homes this winter.

1 October 2021 saw the biggest ever increase to energy prices in the UK which means more households in debt, more families in fuel poverty and more preventable deaths this winter.

Stay Warm, Stay Safe is a service provided by Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) and Live Well Greenwich, aimed to help Royal Borough of Greenwich residents to heat their homes for the winter.

It focuses on residents who may be at risk and people who may be struggling to pay their energy bills.

The service runs from October to March and offers lots of tailored support including help with grant applications and switching energy providers.

History

250 years of the Lewisham brewery Mary Mills I’ve been writing articles working up the Creek and the Ravensbourne week by week looking at the riverside industries. I’m now past the Armoury Mill and getting very near Lewisham. I do intend this week’s site to be the last one on the east bank. Next week I will turn round and start going back down on the west, the Lewisham bank to the Thames and to Deptford. This last site now has on it the big Tesco’s store in Lewisham Road. I am rather embarrassed to find that a number of people have been writing about this site in some detail. In particular the amazing Mr. Running Past has done a great piece about it on his blog, where he has gone into a great deal of detail about the owners of what was a brewery before it became Whitbread’s bottling department and now Tesco. I hope I haven’t copied too much from him. So where do we start?

It appears there was a man called Abraham Constable who had a brewery in Lewisham.

He seems to have opened a number of public houses, as tied houses for his Brewery. We know, for instance, that he leased land in Eltham from the Philpot Charity and that he built the Crown Public there – more recently it’s been called The Rusty Bucket. We don’t know when the lease was issued but it may well have been before 1800. Mr. Running Past says that he thinks the brewery could have been in Lewisham High Street and ‘Kentish Brewers’ references a brewery sold in 1773 by Mr & Mrs Brett, which seems to have been in the High Street. I wonder if it also might be the brewery which was sold in 1817 – that one is described as ‘old established’ and ‘situated in the centre of the village of Lewisham’ but it doesn’t say exactly where it was.

The brewery sold in 1773 was bought by a Mr. Price who was later a partner of Abraham Constable. Constable was an important man who moved to a big house he had built for himself at Hither Green. He held all sorts of public offices in the County of Kent - and one of them was a magistrate.

The Brewery had been sold many years previously when, in 1825, he was on trial himself as a magistrate because he had convicted a man and sentenced him to hard labour without going through the correct procedures. This was a John Baker, accused of indecent behaviour – flashing.

It was said then that Constable was 80 years old, unable to leave his house and

extremely infirm. However this wasn’t seen as an excuse for the problems he had caused and he had to pay £100 to the King.

The Brewery seems to have been sold

by Abraham Constable before 1820 to a partnership of a John Fordham, Edward Allen Fordham and George Eagles Marsden. Marsden was the active partner in the Brewery and he remained in charge through a number of changes in the partnership involving members of the Fordham and Steward and other families who appear to have been his backers.

It seems likely that the Brewery which was on the site where Tesco is now was built around 1818. The dates match rather nicely if it replaced the one sold in 1817. In 1819 the Government sold some property adjacent to the Armoury Mills. There were three sites one of which was for a mill and water milling equipment. The other two were fields and meadows and the advertisement suggested that one of them would be suitable for a brick or a lime works. These sites were described as right on the Greenwich Road which sounds a lot like the Tesco site. It may be that one of them was bought where the new brewery was built - but this is all speculation.

At some stage the name of the brewery was changed from Lewisham Brewery to Anchor Brewery and I don’t know why that was.

There seem to be an awful lot of breweries called ‘Anchor’ around London. One of them was the huge Courage brewery in

Bermondsey and there were several others.

Does anyone know why it was so popular?

There is one building remaining from the Brewery on the Tesco site and that is Eagle House, which was the office block for the Brewery. I had been wondering about why it is called ‘Eagle House. Like ‘Anchor’ ‘Eagle’ is a popular name for breweries – for instance there is the Black Eagle Brewery in Brick Lane in Whitechapel. I guess though that this Eagle House is an echo of Mr. Marsden’s middle name of ‘Eagles. Marsden himself died in 1846. Until his death he was a keen member of the Unitarian church and is described by them as having ‘high benevolent and just principles... recommended by his constancy and with suavity and courtesy of his demeanor’.

In the 1830s Harry and Vincent Nicholl became involved in the brewery and in complete charge of it from 1844. Their wider family seems to have been closely involved in the brewing industry – they had relations involved in other breweries – some of them very large ones. Harry and Vincent came from Chipping Barnett and they were obviously from a wealthy family – Vincent may have been named after the family holdings in St.Vincent’s in the West Indies. There were two other brothers; one was the Rural Dean of Streatham living into his late 90s, the other had his own brewery in Colchester and had the resonant given name of Charrington. This was because his mother came from the Charrington family, who of course owned the enormous Charrington Brewery in the Mile End Roadwhich was active into the 1980s and then became an Asda and a business park. This was also called ‘The Anchor Brewery’.

No apparent problems have emerged at the Brewery throughout the Nicholls’ ownership of it. Things changed after Harry’s death in 1889, leaving Vincent to carry on although by then he was very elderly. It was clearly felt that they could not continue and the site and business were sold to Whitbread’s in 1890 for £485,000 when it had workforce of 30. Whitbread did not want use it as a brewery but to use the site for their planned network of bottling depots and it was to be their first.

‘Whitbread’ is a name everyone can

recognise in connection with beer and brewing – only now they don’t make it anymore. The firm dates from 1742 when they set up a small brewery in Spitalfields and then moved on to develop the enormous site at Chiswell Street in the City in 1750. What they did was to make Porter - the fashionable drink of the day – and do so on an industrial scale.

We should also note that in the early 19th century just up from Chiswell Street was the Golden Lane Brewery set up as a sort of co-op to make ‘Genuine Beer’ – nothing is ever new, it really isn’t. The Chiswell Street site is now no longer an active brewery but you can visit and see round the site including the amazing Porter Tun Room.

It is a show place of what a megabrewery was like in the late 18th century. When they took over the Lewisham brewery in the 1880s it was a colossal and extremely wealthy organisation. In 2001 they sold off the brewery interests but that doesn’t make them any less wealthy today.

In the early 20th Century Whitbread was to set up a whole chain of bottling plants around the country - and I note a website whose author claims to have tried to research this arm of the company and who complains how difficult he found it to do. So bear with me if I don’t come up with much about the hundred years in which Whitbread’s operated this Lewisham site. Latterly the beer went out by road, rail and water transport but to start with it would have been taken in horse drawn traditional drays. They claimed they had 80 horses at the opening of the Lewisham plant. There is an account from the early 1900s of a Mayday parade of horses and vehicles from Lewisham Whitbread’s with prizes given for clean harnesses and for tasteful decoration of the horses. 21 teams turned out and we may assume that that is the number of horse drawn conveyances that the Brewery used. Whitbread claimed to be the largest beer bottler in the world with the leading market position on bottled beer and they had a network about the 40 depots and stores in Britain and Belgium.

Of course eventually they introduced tankers to deliver the beer to the various works on a continuous shuttle basis.

In the 1980s Whitbread’s closed the site which had been in continuous operation since they bought it from the Nicholls.

It was then sold to Tesco’s who built the supermarket which is now there.

The one thing which remains on site after it was cleared and the Tesco built is what is now called ‘Eagle House’ which was the Nicholls’ office block. One thing which intrigued me about it was the big plaque up on the wall as you enter the site and I had assumed it was some sort of heraldic device put up by the Brewery or at least

by Whitbread’s. When I tried to look at it closely I could it see it was a depiction of people sitting round what seemed to be a cake. I could find nothing out about it on any website which described Eagle House and it has been a real struggle to find out what it is and why it was put there. It turns out it is an artwork called ‘The Picnic’ by Gerda Rubinstein and it was erected in 1988 and inaugurated by Peggy Fitzsimons who was then the Mayor of Lewisham. It turns out there was a bit of a problem about it because when Tesco opened its Lewisham store in 1987 it collaborated with Lewisham Council to launch a competition among young local sculptures to find a suitable artwork. A winner was declared but then it was thought the piece would be too easily vandalised so the sculptor was paid, the commission cancelled and Lewisham Council pulled out. Tesco didn’t like this and their Deputy Chair was keen to commission another sculptor and Rubenstein was a friend of his. He told her what had happened and said any artwork would have to be cheap and put somewhere it couldn’t be vandalised - best very high up. However this means it can’t be seen either! It is cast in bronze resin so that it’s not particularly desirable to steal and it’s also very light. I guess that hardly anybody who passes it daily knows anything about it. I have also been totally unable find out what Eagle House is used for today. There are various references to social services type functions there and also I’m told it’s used by Tesco for meetings – and I also note that on the Google Street view the current depiction of it has a ‘to let’ sign on it - so who knows?

ROYAL BOROUGH of GREENWICH ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14(1) [Old Woolwich Road] PLANNED ROAD CLOSURE (ORDER) 1. The Royal Borough of Greenwich intends to makes this Order in exercise of powers under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. This is to facilitate works by Thames Water who need to carry out Water main repair.

2. The Order will come into operation on 6th December 2021 and would continue to be valid for 18 months. However the works are expected to take one week. The duration of the Order can be extended with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport.

3. The effect of the Order would be to temporarily prohibit vehicles from entering, exiting, proceeding or waiting (including waiting for the purposes of loading or unloading) in, Old Woolwich Road outside number 80.

4. Whilst the Order is in operation traffic will be diverted via Hoskins Street, Trenchard Street, Greenwich Park Street and vice versa. Prohibitions remain in force, pedestrians are not affected and vehicle access will be maintained wherever possible.

5. Nothing in this Notice will apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or traffic warden, to emergency service vehicles, or to vehicles being used in connection with the works.

6. The restrictions described above will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs as prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.
