New enforcement service launches We’ve officially launched our new Safer Spaces service which aims to tackle enviro-crime and anti-social behaviour in the borough, and the new team has already issued 150 fines within two days of launching.

The frontline team of community safety enforcement officers are clamping down on people who litter, use public spaces as a toilet, drink alcohol in restricted areas and commit other types of enviro-crime and anti-social behaviour.

Anyone who is caught committing an offence could be issued a fine of up to £80, and any additional money generated by the service will be invested into the local community. The five additional officers join the team under a 12-month pilot, starting in Woolwich town centre, with the potential to expand borough-wide.

This will allow the Council to also focus on more long-term problem solving across the borough and solve more complex community safety issues.

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, we have made the decision to cancel the face-to-face meetings at the Clockhouse Community Centre and Mycenae House.

The meetings will however still go ahead but will be moved online, where you can get involved. Councillors will be online to answer your questions and queries.

All you need to do is Tweet us or send us a direct message on Facebook on the evening of the original meeting, and use the hashtag #AskGreenwich along with your question/query, and the Councillor will respond.

A new, nail-biting production of the story comes to the Churchill Theatre this week, starring Tom Chambers, (Top Hat, Strictly Come Dancing) as the charismatic and manipulative Tony Wendice, and Sally Bretton (Not Going Out, The Office, Death in Paradise) as his wife Margot, on whom he plots revenge after discovering she has been unfaithful.

A moving exploration of four generations of women “You are always your mother’s child, my mother used to say.” Canada Water Theatre presents Charlotte Keatley’s 1987 play My Mother Said I Never Should: a moving and funny exploration of the lives of four generations of women in one family. The production comes from visual physical theatre company Fingersmiths, together with Sheffield Theatres and in partnership with New Wolsey Theatre. See time shift back and fourth between 1900 and 1980, as love, expectations and choices come up against the social norms and restrictions of the day. There’s comedy gold at Blackheath Halls this spring Looking for some local laughs?

Blackheath Halls promises to provide gags aplenty this spring. The 600seat venue is welcoming comedy royalty along with bright new talent, including award-winning acts who have already won over the crowds at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Pen and diary at the ready, here are the belly laughs you won’t want to miss, writes Holly O’Mahony…

Family favourite Jimmy Carr is first up, bringing his latest show Terribly Funny to the halls this week on March 19. He says: “having political correctness at a comedy show is like having health and safety at a rodeo”. So instead, expect jokes about terrible things (but remember: they’re just jokes).

Then on April 2 and 3, Suzi Ruffell (Live at the Apollo, 8 Out of 10 Cats) is performing her latest show: Dance Like Everyone’s Watching. Suzi made a name for herself by turning tragedy and anxiety into comedy.

This year, she’s actually happy – which, naturally, has led her worried mind to question whether standups are at their best when they’re miserable. It’s this very question that forms the basis of her new show.

(and presenter, actor, author and scriptwriter) who needs no introduction. Excitingly for fans, he’s bringing his 2020 tour of The Fast and the Curious to Blackheath Halls on April 30. The multi award-winning comedian is best known as the host of BBC Three’s survival comedy show Stupid Man, Smart Phone and as the host of the channel’s Live at the Electric series. His live show is a motor through love, family and life – hoping to prove that the fast and the curious get more out of life.

Concluding the spring chortles, on May 28, is comedian Ivo Graham with his show The Game of Life. The comedian, who has appeared on the likes of Live at the Apollo and Mock the Week, was recently nominated for Dave’s Edinburgh Comedy Award after a sell-out run at the 2019 Fringe Festival. He describes his show as:

“More hilariously anxious blather from one of the most hilariously anxious blatherers in the business.”

“It’s a particularly busy comedy season,” says Nicola Metselaar, marketing manager at Blackheath Halls. “It’s great to welcome some new faces to the halls but many of the comedians performing have been here before and we always enjoy welcoming them back,” she beams.

While traditionally a concert venue, comedy has long been integral to the offering at Blackheath Halls.

“Historically, the halls have included performances by some of the country’s most famous comedians,” affirms Nicola, adding that standup events are particularly popular with local audiences. “Since our refurbishment, the raked seating in the main hall has significantly

enhanced the experience for both audience members and performers, so we’re really keen to make the most of this and to offer our audiences even more opportunities to see some of their favourite comedians,” she adds.

Of course, tickets to see household names perform at the intimatelysized venue often sell out quickly.

But Nicola has some tips to prevent fans missing out. “Big names always sell quickly, but we do our best to give the south-east London community a heads up via our social media channels and through local Facebook groups,” she says.

“It’s also a good idea to sign up to our mailing list to be among the first to find out what’s going on. The nature of comedy means we sometimes get bigger acts at the last minute,” she advises.

At the same time, it’s not all about the big names. In January, Blackheath Halls launched a new monthly mixed bill comedy night, ‘Off the Kerb Presents…’, led by leading comedy agency Off The Kerb. Tickets to the night are just £10, and it’s a chance to see a variety of acts from the British comedy circuit show off their talents. “It’s a great night out for any connoisseur of comedy,” says Nicola. “Watch this space as more names are confirmed for the series.”

A timely exhibition CARAVANS arrives at NOW Gallery BY THE SEA FROM £14,995 OPEN 11½ MONTHS#

Part of NOW Gallery’s on-going Design Commission, Slices of Time is an installation of epic scale, consisting of 6,000 hanging numbers in 100 different shades of colours, which aims to express the flow of time. Each layer of numbers is said to reflect the now, the past and the future. In a bid to get viewers interacting with the exhibition, visitors are invited to remember a date that holds significance to them and record this on a piece of coloured paper provided.

Together, these important dates will form their own kaleidoscope of colour.

For Jemima Burrill, curator of the exhibition, it was the depth of colour and delicacy of the installations that attracted her to Emmanuelle’s work, and prompted them to ask her to come up with something for the gallery. “Emmanuelle’s installations make you take colour in and enjoy it in a different way,” she says. “It’s the way she layers them, so each colour reacts to the one next to it.

It’s like a colour conversation which immerses you, making you take time to look at the wonder of it.”

Jemima commissioned Emmanuelle to create a piece that was “true to her sublime aesthetic” while also having relevance to the gallery’s location on the Greenwich Peninsula. In response, Emmanuelle has featured the Meridian Line itself in her installation.

“The Meridian Line is drawn out in the gallery in large but delicate circles with the earth duplicated in her 100 shades of colour,” reveals Jemima, for whom it was also important that the exhibition provided some light relief from the gloomy political climate and chilly weather.

“I saw having one of [Emmanuelle’s] supremely organised and intricate pieces as a wonderful counter balance to the politically turbulent

times we’ve been going through. Her work provides a moment of calm for people to leave the winter months behind and experience pure colour.”

Born in France in 1971, Emmanuelle moved to Tokyo in 1996, where she later established ‘emmanuelle moureaux architecture + design’ in 2003. It was the layers and colours of Tokyo – that she saw as building a complex depth and density on the street – along with traditional Japanese spatial elements, like sliding screens, that inspired her to create the concept of ‘shikir’, which literally means ‘dividing space with colours’. Ultimately, Emmanuelle hopes to evoke emotion through colours through her creations.

Emmanuelle’s unique style has seen her create art installations for fashion houses including UNIQLO and ISSEY MIYAKE in the past. She’s also been the Associate Professor of Art and Design at Tohoku University since 2008, where she famously has her pupils explore the possibilities of colour by creating a 100-colour palette out of an item from their everyday life.

Creating the Slices of Time exhibition at NOW Gallery has not been without its challenges, admits Jemima.

“Hanging up 6,000 numbers attached to fishing wire has been a challenge, as these need to be attached to the floor to ensure they don’t blow around,” she says. “Luckily for us, Emmanuelle has done an installation to this scale numerous times before.”

Should all go to plan, these behindthe-scenes logistics will be invisible to the viewer when the exhibition opens on February 5. “As a visitor to the gallery, the key thing about this installation is that when you come to see it, all you will encounter is the serenity of the finished product,” Jemima says. “This is a rare opportunity to enjoy colour in a beautiful form and have the time to contemplate a significant date that needs revisiting.”

Fresh xxxx on theYorkshire Ripper arrives at NOW Gallery The Incident Room invites audiences to step back in time to 1975 and follow Sergeant Megan Winterburn as she joins hundreds of police officers on a manhunt for the Yorkshire Ripper, one of Britain’s most notorious serial killers. Co-written by playwrights David Byrne and Olivia Hirst, the play comes to Greenwich Theatre this week following a successful stint at the New Diorama Theatre, where David is also artistic director, writes Holly O’Mahony…

As those who lived through it will recall, the Millgarth Incident Room in Leeds became the epicentre of the biggest manhunt in British police history while the Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe, was at large.

Officers working on the case were under huge amounts of pressure to catch the killer and bring him to justice before he could brutally murder any more women.

Both David and Olivia were interested in the Yorkshire Ripper case and discussed co-creating a play about it while working together on David’s 2017 play The Secret Life of Humans.

They realised that while there had been several surface-level dramas and reports written about the case in the past, there was a more human side to the story yet to be told and plenty of characters who hadn’t been explored.

“We humanise the key people in the story, following a female detective, Meghan Winterburn, who was really pivotel to the case and whose story hadn’t been told before,” reveals David. “Her story felt like the right one to tell when looking back on a case that really changed everything for a whole generation of people in the north of England at that time.”

The case also marked a turning point for how the entire practice of policing was carried out in the UK. “The Yorkshire Ripper case was the last of its kind before policing was more formalised; it preceded computerisation and DNA testing,” explains David. “How the police hunt was carried out was really audacious, too. It led to policing as we know it today,” he adds. “Through The Incident Room, we hope to give audiences the chance to see real,

on-the-ground policing and what the true cost of that vocation was.”

Olivia grew up in Yorkshire and doesn’t remember a time when she didn’t know about the Yorkshire Ripper.

Like many bringing up children in the North, her mother used the Ripper’s crimes as a cautionary tale about the dangers of walking home alone. The case took place relatively recently after all. Because of this, Olivia and David were able to go around the country interviewing real people who were there at the time, including journalists and police officers.

Through extensive research into the climate hanging over the case, the pair even found shreds of humour in the story. “Our play is a proper representation of a northern workplace.

It’s not a gritty TV drama where no

one smiles, like the 70s cops you see on Life on Mars,” says David.

“It’s a surprisingly funny play.”

All three of David’s plays have dramatised real life events. His 2016 play Down & Out in Paris and London fused together aspects of George Orwell’s 1933 memoir of the same name with Guardian journalist Polly Toynbee’s 2003 memoir Hard Work. His 2017 play The Secret Life of Humans, followed what happened when a secret room in the house of scientist and mathematician Dr Jacob Bronowski was discovered by his grandson. Does the playwright feel a pressure to be historically accurate when dramatising real life events?

who worked on the case, including Sergeant Megan Winterburn, who have come to see the play. “We were very nervous about having them in but they said they couldn’t believe how true to life it is,” beams David. “Even journalists who covered the case have been surprised at some of the details we’ve managed to get into the play.”

Following its run at Greenwich Theatre, The Incident Room’s next stop is New York, where the show is playing at Off-Broadway venue 59E59 Theatres for five weeks this summer.

“It’ll be interesting performing it to an audience who have very little knowledge about the case,” says David.

“I think there’s a responsibility to be careful with real life narratives, but at the same time it’s not a documentary,” he says. “The Incident Room is based on such a well-known story that if we made something up, people would question it. We’ve amalgamated characters, but all the main plot points in the show did really happen.”

Back in London, the run at Greenwich Theatre is all about giving audiences a deeper understanding of the story.

“Our aim is to show the impact the case has had on society,” says David.

“How it affected the women – both the victims who died, and victims who survived – and on the legacy and inheritance it has left us with today.”

Judging by audience reactions so far, the pair have pulled it off. Not only has The Incident Room impressed at the New Diorama and before that at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where a shorter version of the play sold out last summer, it’s won over real people

History

Barges, piers and watermen Mary Mills

In the last article on our walk along the Greenwich riverside we were at the Greenwich Foot Tunnel, and before that at Billingsgate Dock.

Our riverside walk now takes us through what is now Cutty Sark Gardens and the heart of Tourist Greenwich – on our way to the Royal Greenwich riverside.

Until the Second World War this was still a working area, although, clearly the pier and the pubs were attracting an increased tripper trade – and had so for many years. So, we start at a set of waterman’s stairs by the foot tunnel and – and walk eastwards past the pier. This now an open area but in the past we would have been walking down a lane with buildings which serviced river activities, and a number of pubs.

We would have passed another set of stairs and a small dock, a fish market and then the ‘royal’ area. In the days when it was a working palace, under the Tudors and Stuarts, a huge area would have been needed for service facilities and other buildings associated with maintenance and government activities.

So, we begin at the set of watermen’s stairs near the Foot Tunnel. These stairs give access to the foreshore and were also where licensed watermen could pick up and leave passengers – plying for hire in exactly the same way as today’s black cabs. These are called ‘Garden Stairs; and are very ancient, dating back to at least the fifteenth century. It is said that they were originally called ‘Skarne’ or ‘Skerne ‘ Stairs after an Elizabethan resident and that ‘Garden’ is a corruption of this – although I must say I can’t turn Skerne; into anything like ‘Garden’.

These stairs were also used by ferry services. The history of Greenwich ferries is one of prolonged aggravation of various sorts and, as we have seen, the ferry terminal moved to the end of the Horseferry Road in the 18th and 19th centuries. There are various prints by Thomas Rowlandson from the early 19th century showing people apparently arriving in Greenwich by boat. Also depicted is Salutation Tavern – whose sign is in the drawings – which stood on the west side Garden Stairs at the top. On the east side of the stairs was the Peter Boat Tavern – a ‘peter boat’ was a fishing vessel.

In one of Rowlinsn’s drawings the people climbing the stairs, the spectators and others are behaving in a respectable and decent manner. The other prints show them in a range of rather different activities. Note that all these passengers were heading for the pub.

Before the pier was built a lane –Fisher Lane - ran parallel to the river and in front of where the pier now stands.

In a fictionalised account by Captain Marryat, Fisher Lane is described as “a narrow strait rejoicing in a common gutter running through its centre and .... the entrance to a shipwright’s yard chiefly for the repair and building fishing smacks ,,, general receptacle for the boat’s gear and fishing tackle and

used by the fishing vessels” . Captain Marryat called the pub ‘The White Nag’ and there actually was a White Horse pub in Fisher Lane as well as another pub called the Lord Ligonier.. There were several others , one being The Salutation as shown by Rowlandson at No.1. Garden Stairs. – and from his drawings it appears to be, well, lively.

The Buffalo’s Head was also at Garden Stairs and at Ship Dock at the eastern end of Fisher Lane were the Crown and Anchor, The Red Lion, and The Chest.

At Ship Dock, which was a draw dock,was the Ship Hotel, far too grand to be listed with the taverns. This was a large and imposing building and one of the places where the famous ministerial whitebait suppers were held after they had moved to Greenwich from Dagenham. The Ship-was eventually destroyed in a Second World War bombing raid – and thus created an empty space to be filled by the Cutty Sark ship.

Today the major riverside structure is the Pier which dates from 1836 –although clearly it has been rebuilt and changed over the years.

A project to build a pier here was first put forward by the Stone Pier Company, which later changed its name to the Greenwich Pier Company. The principal shareholders are said to have been Sir Richard Dobson, who was surgeon to the Royal Hospital for Seaman and Dr. John Sutton. It therefore seems to have been an initiative of the Royal Hospital who owned much of the land here. The original 1836 Act of Parliament was for a pier 175 feet long sited on the present Pier’s upstream area. Later in the same year an amendment allowed it tobe extended downstream. It was built by contractors Grissell and Peto.

What happened next is a bit complicated. Some ‘watermen’ objected to the pier being built and a ‘misunderstanding arose’. The watermen set up a ‘floating pier’ at

Garden Stairs alongside the new stone pier. I do not know if it was this pier or the ‘stone pier’ which was opened in March 1837 with flags on the ‘new road leading to the pier’. But the reporter for the West Kent Guardian was stopped at this point because he did not have a ticket for the opening and thus his report ended right there.

The barges of the Watermen’s Pier were moored up against Garden Stairs and blocked access to the Salutation Tavern. The proprietors of the Tavern, by then this was Sir Richard Dobson and Dr Sutton, began to build another pier - which must mean at Garden Stairs. The City of London controlled Thames Conservancy held a jury sitting on this dispute and the various claims and counter claims were then sent for trial at the Maidstone Assizes.

They referred the matter to arbitration for investigation and it was then ordered that the structure in front of the Salutation should be removed.

Unfortunately In 1843 the new stone pier suddenly collapsed “with an explosion like a piece artillery’ with people on it as it gave way. This led to more litigation – this time against the contractors. Action also continued against the Watermen’s floating pier, which was busy serving the steamers of the Watermen’s Steam Packet Company. A handbill was published with a relevant ballad T’was the voice of poor Dickey—I heard him complain, Oh take back my shares in the Stone Pier again, For see how the WATERMAN’S PIER proudly floats, And how Thousands flock down in their rapid steam boats.

Dickey being Sir Richard Dobson. I must say that the accounts of all this litigation appear to involve some important and no doubt expensive lawyers. I suspect that the real row is between the Royal Hospital and the City of London in the guise of the Thames Conservators –and possibly

the Company of Watermen (although they at one point denied involvement).

The stone pier having been rebuilt, there was through the 19th century a busy and growing tripper trade. They used the new steam boats with constant new technologies in design and power. They were initially mainly paddle steamers and there are many accounts of them - there are several specialist web sites which illustrate and describe them one by one. Early boats ran from London piers to Margate where families would stay in the summer, father commuting down for weekends by boat. There was also of course a flourishing day tripper trade – perhaps going to Rosherville Gardens at Northfleet like the ill fated Princess Alice. Fishing villages around the Thames estuary and the adjacent coast became resort towns, almost overnight. One such was Clacton where a developer working with the Woolwich Steam Packet Company virtually invented the town in the early 1870s The London County Council took the pier over in 1905 and began a passenger service up and down river in addition to the existing commercial tripper boats.

This was inaugurated at Greenwich by the Prince of Wales. There have been a lot of comings and goings since – in 1953 it was visited by Marshal Tito, no less. In 1954 part of the upstream end of the pier was dismantled to allow the Cutty Sark into its dock.

Although the LCC service was not a success it has been succeeded by many others. Greenwich Pier has always been and remains busy. As far as its historic structure is concerned a report of 2000 concluded “the upstream corner and end wall of the pier date from 1955 - the main pier frontage dates from after 1843 - the downstream corner and side wall probably date from 1836 – and the level of the river bed in front of the pier has not changed significantly in 75 years”.

But then it was rebuilt again recently – to the fury of local residents who disliked the garish chain restaurants installed to

encourage more spend from trippers.

To return briefly to the history. At the east end of the pier there were once more watermen’s stairs – Ship Stairs and alongside them Ship Dock. I suspect they were named for the Ship Pub rather than for shipping activity. Here was the site of the fish market, which I mentioned in the article on Billingsgate The industrial riverside begins again at the other end of the riverside ‘Five Foot Walk’ and at the steps by what is now the Trafalgar Tavern.

Andrews Sykes providing pathways for trainees Charlton Athletic Community Trust’s (CACT) traineeship programme supports a wide variety of career choices and options, including CACT Patron Andrews Sykes, a specialist hire company that provides pumps, heating and air conditioning.

Olly, a CACT trainee, is currently undertaking work experience at Andrews alongside former trainee Callum, who is now doing an apprenticeship at the company following his work experience there.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the Royal Borough of Greenwich proposes to make the above-mentioned Orders under sections 6, 45, 46, 49 and 124 of and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.

2. The general effect of the Orders would be to: (a) extend the existing Eltham Outer (‘EO’) Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) as described in paragraph (d) below. The parts of Glenesk Road, Glenlea Road, Glenlyon Road, Glenshiel Road and Westmount Road referred to in that paragraph that are currently in Eltham Station (‘E’) CPZ would be removed from that CPZ and properties within those lengths would no longer be eligible for ‘E’ CPZ permits and vouchers; (b) provide a new CPZ, to be called Eltham North (‘EN’) CPZ as described in paragraph (e) below. The parts of Kidbrooke Lane, Prince Rupert Road and Well Hall Road (including the service road) referred to in that paragraph that are currently in Eltham Station (‘E’) CPZ would be removed from that CPZ and properties within those lengths would no longer be eligible for ‘E’ CPZ permits and vouchers; (c) retain double yellow line ‘at any time’ waiting restrictions where they are currently located and provide additional double yellow line ‘at any time’ waiting restrictions (i) at the junction of Admiral Seymour Road with Moira Road; (ii) at the junction of Congreve Road with Prince Rupert Road; (iii) at the junction of Eltham Park Gardens and Glenesk Road; (iv) at the junctions of Rochester Way with Congreve Road, Prince Rupert Road, Admiral Seymour Road and Moira Road; (v) in Glenesk Road, between Glenlea Road and Nos. 28 and 75 Glenesk Road; and (vi) in Kidbrooke Lane, on the north-east side, opposite Nos. 51 and 53 Kidbrooke Lane; (d) (i) provide that in addition to the roads within the existing ‘EO’ CPZ, the extended ‘EO’ CPZ would include the roads and lengths of roads listed in Schedule 1 to this Notice and would retain CPZ hours of between 11am and 12.30pm on Mondays to Fridays inclusive; (ii) retain the free (1 hour maximum stay) parking places in various lengths of Glenshiel Road which would retain their existing times of operation; (iii) retain the free (30 minutes maximum stay) parking places in Eltham Park Gardens, adjacent to Nos. 112 and 114 Westmount Road which would retain their existing times of operation; (iv) provide shared-use (permit holders / pay and display) parking places on the north-west side of Glenlea Road that would operate between 9am and 5.30pm on Mondays to Saturdays inclusive; and (v) provide a combination of permit holders parking places and single yellow line waiting restrictions that would operate during the ‘EO’ CPZ hours throughout the extended part of EO CPZ except where the double yellow lines and parking places referred to a sub-paragraphs 2(c) and 2(d)(ii) to (iv) above, or any existing disabled persons’ parking places, would be provided; (e) (i) provide that the new ‘EN’ CPZ would include the roads and lengths of roads listed in Schedule 2 to this Notice and would have CPZ hours of between 9am and 5.30pm on Mondays to Saturdays inclusive; (ii) provide shared-use (permit holders / pay and display) parking places (maximum stay 4 hours, no return for 2 hours, with first 30 minutes free) that would operate during the ‘EN’ CPZ hours, in various lengths of Well Hall Road (including the service road) and in Prince Rupert Road and Kidbrooke Lane near their junctions with Well Hall Road; (iii) provide a disabled person’ parking place (approximately 20 metres in length) on the south-east side of Admiral Seymour Road, outside Progress Hall; and (iv) provide a combination of permit holders parking places and single yellow line waiting restrictions that would operate during the CPZ hours throughout ‘EN’ CPZ except where the double yellow lines and parking places referred to a sub-paragraphs 2(c) and 2(e)(ii) and (iii) above, or any existing disabled persons’ parking places, would be provided; (f) provide that residents whose postal address is within EO or EN CPZ would be able to purchase permits and visitors’ vouchers for parking within their respective CPZs at the rates set out in Schedule 3 to this Notice; (g) provide that business users whose postal address is within EO or EN CPZ would be able to purchase permits for parking within their respective CPZs at the rates set out in Schedule 3 to this Notice; (h) provide that community centre on Admiral Seymour Road would be able to purchase business visitors’ vouchers for parking within EN CPZ at the rates set out in Schedule 3 to this Notice; and (i) replace certain map tiles attached to the Orders that those Orders amend so as to reflect the provisions referred to in sub-paragraphs (a) to (h) above.

3. A copy of the proposed Orders and other documents giving more detailed particulars of the Orders are available for inspection during normal office hours until the end of six weeks from the date on which the Orders are made or, as the case may be, the Council decides not to make the Orders, at the Directorate of Regeneration, Enterprise and Skills, Strategic Transportation, Royal Borough of Greenwich, The Woolwich Centre, 35 Wellington Street, SE18 6HQ. 4. 5. Any person who wishes to object to or make other representations about the proposed Orders should send a statement in writing, specifying the grounds on which any objection is made, to TMO Team, Project Centre, Unit 2, Holford Yard, London WC1X 9HD, or by email to GreenwichTMOconsultations@projectcentre.co.uk (quoting reference PCL/TMO/JP/1000005988), to arrive by 8th April 2020.

6. Persons objecting to the proposed Orders should be aware that in view of the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1985, this Council would be legally obliged to make any comments received in response to this notice, open to public inspection.

Schedule 3 – permit and voucher charges

(1) residents’ permit (specifying up to two vehicles), £100.00 each per year; (2) residents’ visitors’ vouchers, valid for four hours: £2.00 per voucher, or valid for one day: £4.00 per voucher; up to a maximum of 100 vouchers per household per year (3) carers’ permits, no charge; (4) nannies’ permits, £216.00 each per year; (5) business permits, £400 each per year; up to a maximum of 5 business permits per business; and (6) business visitors’ vouchers, valid for four hours: £12.50 for 5 vouchers, or valid for one day: £30.00 for 5 vouchers; and (7) tradesmen’s permits, £15.00 each per week up to a maximum of six weeks.
