Bucs Football Game Day Feast!!
Phil Stoecker
In the Tampa Bay area, we’re big fans of our NFL team, The Buccaneers, affectionately known as the Bucs. This spread for the Sunday game uses some of my all-time simple recipes because I’m a big fan of simple recipes!
My Bucs Football Game Day Feast features my version of Mississippi Pot Roast Sliders, Crunchy No-Mayo Pasta Salad, and Mandarin Orange Coleslaw – all whipped up in a pinch. Let’s face it, on game day, we want to concentrate on the game, not preparing food. The recipe feeds six-to-eight football fans, based on if or when you run out of slider rolls and/or the beef.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Bring Back the Creamsicle
Trish Stoecker
For Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans, Creamsicle is more than just a color. It’s a legacy. It’s the founding spirit of the team whose inaugural season was 1976 with future Hall-of-Famer Lee Roy Selmon on the defensive line and coached by the charismatic, cigar-puffing John McKay.
For 2023, the Bucs have brought the iconic original jersey color back to “activate legacy…with an ultra-cool brand.” The team is not using the term “throwback” for this campaign. And it is not a rebranding because the red and pewter remain for the regular team colors. However, Creamsicle is what launched the Bucs, and is instantly recognizable, especially with the OGs and anyone who knows team history.
The Bucs are the only team to have ever used the unique color, starting when the franchise opened in 1976 until 1997 when it rebranded to the red and pewter. The helmet logo was initially Bucco Bruce, a swashbuckling pirate in the style of Errol Flynn, smuggler Jean Lafitte and one of the famous Musketeers d’Artagnan, designed by award-winning Tampa Tribune cartoonist Lamar Sparkman.
According to Andrew Lind at SportsLogos.net, Sparkman said he approached the logo design “…with the idea that he was a cavalier, not a hairy-legged slob…The plume feather adds class, I think. I put the dagger in his mouth to add aggression, and then had him wink. It is a half wink and half sneer.” The new ad created especially for this campaign makes sure to incorporate that wink as a nod to that logo.
The goal with this new campaign is to energize the core fan base that has been with the team since the beginning, but it will also be attractive and engaging to new fans and pull them into the fold. If you have been to any concert recently of a popular 70s/80s band, then you’ll know what this means. Parents were huge fans but are bringing their kids because they have been listening to the music growing up and have themselves become fans. Now with Creamsicle, older devotees who were in from the beginning can reminisce and pass on those memories to their kids. The color is the thread that is woven throughout the team’s history, and now brings it altogether today for an identity tone and vibe that cements the past with the present.
Due to NFL regulations, the team cannot wear the Creamsicle jerseys as part of their game-day uniform, even on a rotational basis. They have, however, received permission to wear them for one game, which will be against the Detroit Lions at 1pm on October 15 at Raymond James Stadium.Vintage posters and other decorations from the team’s former home at Tampa Stadium will also be shown that day to capture the feel of the bygone era. Tickets are on sale now at https://www.buccaneers.com/tickets/
Check out the awesome ad the Bucs creative team put together for this campaign. Filmed at the recently-opened, 70s-themed nightclub Goodnight John Boy in St. Petersburg, it is narrated by Pro Football Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks, who is joined by fellow Hall of Famer Ronde Barber, hugely popular former fullback Mike Alstott and current players Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antoine Winfield Jr. and Lavonte David. Comedian and Buccaneer Superfan Bert Kreischer along with make-up entrepreneur Jaclyn Hill also make cameos.
For those who are die-hard Bucs fans, much will resonate with you. https://youtu.be/NrJFoGOcW3A
