Hometown Rays Send Four Players to 2023 All-Star Game

Not only can the Tampa Bay Rays boast the best record going into the 2023 All-Star Break, the club is sending four of its top performers to the game in Seattle as well for the first time in franchise history. Left Fielder Randy Arozarena, First Baseman Yandy Diaz, and Shortstop Wander Franco are all first-time nominees to the American League All-Star Team. Randy finished second in the balloting, behind veteran All-Star Mike Trout of the LA Angels. Yandy is Tampa Bay’s first, First Baseman to be going and received an incredible 53% of the votes. He joins Evan Longoria as only the second infielder in franchise history to be selected. Wander was selected on Tuesday, July 4, to replace Aaron Judge of the Yankees who had to withdraw due to injury. Rounding out the squad is veteran pitching ace Shane McClanahan, who notches his second straight All-Star appearance.

Randy, who has 16 long-balls as of July 10, will also be participating in the Home-Run Derby. When speaking to the Associated Press, Rays manager Kevin Cash said that Arozarena was very excited to be participating and that he would be very entertaining to watch.

In fact, he has a section in left field at the Trop nicknamed “Randyland” where his devoted fans sit and cheer him on during games. Those who sit in the section get beverage vouchers when he hits homers during Friday night home games.

Randy also commented to the AP that he loves hitting home runs and it had always been a goal of his to participate in the Home-Run Derby, as well as to be in the All-Star game itself.

Yandy commented to the AP that is he is very appreciative that fans took the time to vote for him, and he is grateful for the opportunity. The infielder has 12 Home Runs and has the team-leading batting average of .319 as of July 2.

In spite of Franco's recent benching by Ray's Skipper Kevin Cash due to behavioral issues, he stands behind his selection to the roster. As he commented to Adam Berry of MLB, “I'm pumped for Wander. He is so deserving. It doesn't matter how you get on. When you get on, you’re on. He's an American League All-Star. The hope is we see many of those.”

Shane McClanahan is on the the 15-day IL due to mid-back tightness on July 1, and won't be eligible to start the game. However, as he commented to Bally Sports, he "couldn't be more thankful" to be selected for the second consecutive year, and that it was always something he had dreamed about as a kid, and he couldn't be more honored.

The T-Mobile Home Run Derby is on Monday, July 10 at 8pm on ESPN.

The 93rd Midsummer Classic will be televised nationally on Tuesday, July 11, at 8pm by FOX Sports. FOX Deportes will provide Spanish language coverage in the United States. ESPN Radio will provide exclusive national radio coverage of the All-Star Game, while Univision will provide Spanish language coverage on radio.

Travel Around the US & The World Italy Monteriggioni

Monteriggioni is a small, walled medieval hilltop town located in the province of Siena, Tuscany, Italy. It is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and is often referred to as a "perfect medieval jewel." The town is situated on a hill overlooking the beautiful Tuscan countryside, making it a popular tourist destination.

One of the most distinctive features of Monteriggioni is its impressive city walls. Built in the 13th century, these walls are nearly intact and encircle the town in a circular shape. The walls are punctuated by 14 towers, which offer panoramic views of the surrounding area. Walking along the walls is a popular activity for visitors, providing a unique perspective of the town and its surroundings.

Within the walls, the town's narrow streets are lined with charming stone houses and buildings. The main square, Piazza Roma, serves as the heart of Monteriggioni. It features a well in the center and is surrounded by several shops, cafes, and restaurants where visitors can relax and soak up the medieval atmosphere.

Monteriggioni also has a small but notable church, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. Dating back to the 13th century, this Romanesque-style church contains beautiful frescoes and a simple yet elegant interior.

In addition to its historical and architectural charm, Monteriggioni hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year. One of the most famous is the Medieval Festival, held in July. During this event, the town comes alive with knights, jesters, and musicians, recreating the atmosphere of medieval times.

Due to its location in the heart of Tuscany, Monteriggioni serves as an excellent base for exploring the region. It is within close proximity to other popular destinations such as Siena, San Gimignano, and Florence, making it an ideal day trip or a stop on a larger itinerary.

Overall, Monteriggioni offers visitors a chance to step back in time and experience the magic of a medieval Tuscan town. Its well-preserved walls, charming streets, and beautiful surroundings make it a must-visit destination for history lovers and those seeking an authentic Italian experience.
