Managing Editor: Trish Stoecker

Trish is a 32-year combat Army Veteran, who spent the better part of her last twelve years in uniform stationed at The Pentagon in Washington, DC. While there, her assignments included organizing major Army infrastructure and entertainment programs, including The Army Birthday Ball, Total Army Analysis, and Organization Days for the Senior Army Leadership and Army Staff Sections. Trish is also a published author with numerous credits including The Knoxville News-Sentinel, Florida Women Magazine, and Lakeside Life.

Staff Contributor: Phil Stoecker

Phil Stoecker grew up the youngest son of eight children in a journalistic family in a small town outside of New York City. His father was an award-winning photojournalist at United Press International (UPI), his mother was a reporter for the La Crosse (WI) Tribune until she married, and his stepmother was the daughter of a prominent New York sportswriter, who herself was the editor of one of the small town’s newspapers. Phil is not sure whether any of these legacies rubbed off on him, but he did endure an English lesson at every family dinner, where he learned to express himself – or else.

The skills he learned at the dining room table served him well when he joined the U.S. Navy as a cryptologist aboard submarines and at overseas duty stations. After his 10-year stint in the Navy, he was hired by the Department of the Navy, where he served as a civilian analyst until he retired 27 years later and moved from the Washington D.C. area to the Tampa Bay area with his wife, the Managing Editor. Phil indulges his hobbies as an amateur photographer and writer and hopes to make entertaining contributions to this publication.

Aerosmith

Aerosmith was formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1970. They have been referred to as the "Bad Boys from Boston" over the years, and are known for their bluesy, hard rock sound, as well as their energetic live performances. Known for frontman Steven Tyler's powerful and raspy vocals, and Joe Perry's iconic guitar riffs, some of their most famous songs include "Dream On," "Sweet Emotion," "Walk This Way," "Crazy," "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," and "Livin' on the Edge."

Throughout their career, Aerosmith has released numerous successful albums, including "Toys in the Attic," "Rocks," "Permanent Vacation," and "Get a Grip," with which they achieved great success in the 1970s. These albums featured hits such as "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion." In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the band experienced a resurgence in popularity with the release of the album "Permanent Vacation," which included hits like "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" and "Angel." One of Aerosmith's most iconic and memorable songs came from the movie “Armageddon.” The song, "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," was featured in the soundtrack of the 1998 film and became a massive hit.

They have released 15 albums and 72 singles throughout their career and have sold over 150 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They've won several Grammy Awards and 2001, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Aerosmith has had its share of ups and downs, including periods of drug addiction and internal conflicts, but the band has managed to maintain its status as one of rock music's iconic acts. Since then, they have had a standing show in Las Vegas and are now touring the US on their Farwell Tour, “Peace Out.” The current lineup includes, Steven Tyler, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, Brad Whitford, and of course, Joe Perry. They are playing at Amalie Arena Oct 11th, at 7pm tickets are still on sale!

Admission to Auto Museum also includes the Bond Museum, touted as the world’s largest collection of James Bond movie automobiles, aircraft, and memorabilia. It is truly an amazing (and slightly overwhelming) collection of vehicles and everything 007. Once you’re finished enjoying the James Bond collection, you can relax with a drink or dine at the adjacent sit-down Bond Lounge restaurant and bar. There is even the Russian T-55 tank (less weapons and explosives), Bond drove in the movie Goldeneye, outside next to the bar! When my wife and I first visited in 2021, it was used as part of the back bar, but has since been moved to expand seating. During a recent visit, the bartender told us how engineers drove the tank to its current position next to the bar, probably less than 100 feet, while the engine bellowed noxious black smoke and the vibrations rattled the entire building.

Although viewing the automobile collection would be reason enough to visit Dezerland, the park has so much more to offer in a very family-friendly environment. Admission and parking are free, but fees are charged for viewing the automobile collection and other entertainment options – all of which can be debited from a “PlayCard” purchased by the customer. And what entertainment options! Dezerland boasts the largest and fastest indoor electric go-kart track in Florida, Karting Orlando, where the wannabe Jeff Gordon can test his or her skills behind the wheel and compete against other racers. For those looking for something a little less stressful, but just as competitive, Bowling Orlando features 12 full-length bowling lanes for your enjoyment. Other options include Arcade Orlando, a large arcade area adjacent to the bowling lanes; The Putting Edge, a unique putt-putt golf course under black lights; The Pinball Place for the pinball wizard in all of us; Gamrz Delight for video game competitions; Jump Start trampoline park; bumper cars; laser tag; and more! Hungry customers can also enjoy the offerings at a food court that features pizza, burritos, burgers, ice cream and other tasty treats.

So, why spend a hot fall day at Disney World or Universal Studios when you can enjoy the indoor airconditioned comfort of Dezerland for a fraction of the cost? You won’t be disappointed

Plenty of
and activities to keep the whole

The Orlando Auto Museum (Auto Experience) at Dezerland Park is an awesome collection of automobiles, motorcycles, boats, and automotive memorabilia.

Claimed to be the world’s largest collection of James Bond movie vehicles and memorabilia.

Tampa Bay Rays Post Season 2023 Run

The 2023 Tampa Bay Rays started off with an historic-tying 13-game winning streak along with the best record in MLB for two months. Coming into the Post-Season, as of this printing they are number four for hitting this season in Baseball, despite facing multiple injuries, including losing their top two pitchers early in the season. In fact, only four of the players on the starting team this Spring have made it until the PostSeason. In fact, of the five starting Rays Pitchers, four are out for the season with extensive injuries. Players such as two-time All Star Ace pitcher Shane McClanahan, had season-ending injuries fairly early on. McClanahan underwent his second Tommy John surgery on August 21. That will make him highly unlikely to return at all next season due to rehab. Wander Franco, Rays’ infielder and former Number 1 prospect in Baseball, and first time All-Star in 2023, is sidelined on Administrative Leave due to an ongoing investigation in his native Dominican Republic for an alleged relationship with a minor. He continues to receive his salary and playing credit during this time.

All that aside, the Rays have persevered through the entire season, calling up players from the Minors to fill in for the regular starters. They are on tap to have home-field advantage for the Wild Card matchup, which runs October 3-5. This is the Rays’ fifth time in as many years to reach the playoffs, joining only the Braves and the Dodgers to do so within the same timeframe.

Tickets are on sale via https://www.mbl.com/rays for all of the Rays’ postseason games.

Tampa Bay Lightning 2023/24

Tampa Bay LighTning

Alex Killorn, Corey Perry, and Patty Maroon, among others.

The schedule of games is hard and rough in their division has the odds makers putting the Lightning 9th over all to win the Stanley cup and 3rd overall to win the Atlantic division.

Hopefully with the retention of Steven Stamkos,Victor Hedman, Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point, and Andrei Vasilevskiy they will rise to the occasion and bring back the title to Tampa Bay.

The NHL preseason started on Sept 26 away at the Carolina Hurricanes and the true season begins in Tampa Bay against the Predators on Oct 10th at a rare 5:30 pm start. Check with www.nhl.com/lightning for games and start times.
