Travel Around the US & The World

Joanne Durann Bellevue,Washington

I recently journeyed to Bellevue, in Washington state. It was very beautiful there with amazing views, mountains, and at that point in time, all lite up for the holidays.

The area has so much nice shopping and, plenty of things to do it makes for a refreshing place to go away from the buzz of cities and your typical vacation hot spots!

Bellevue boasts a beautiful downtown park, botanical gardens, KidsQuest Children’s Museum and more. It is also close to the Seattle airport and all that that town has!

Geoff Tate & The Geoff Tate Band

Joanne Durann

January 13, 2023 Capitol Theater 8 pm

Multiple platinum, award-winning singer and songwriter Geoff Tate, formerly of Queensryche, is heading back to the Florida area with multiple shows throughout the state on his worldwide tour. The 2023 tour year starts with his Big Rock Show Hits tour in Tennessee, getting to Florida on Ponte Vedra, then heading to Fort Myers, then to us in Clearwater, before going across the state to Fort Lauderdale and then around the world with the 30th Anniversary of Empire. For us, he will be at the Capitol Theater in Clearwater, and you can get tickets through Ruth Eckert Hall now. By visiting: https://www.rutheckerdhall.com/event/geoff-tate-2

The 2-time Emmy nominated singer rose to Fame as the voice and frontman of Queensryche for 30 plus years on their 13 albums before parting ways in 2012/2013. Since branching out on his own, he has written countless songs and has two studio albums, self-titled Geoff Tate and Kings & Thieves. He also has two albums with Sweet Oblivion, Sweet Oblivion & Sweet Oblivion Relentless, and is working on a third, according to his social media. He teamed up with his current band for several years and has been cross-crossing the globe for the last several years.

His new band features Glasgow native Kieran Roberson on lead guitar. He has been playing for the last three-plus years with Geoff and has been in bands for the last 13 years playing all over the world and recording his work in Germany. During Tate's Operation Mind Crime tour, Alex Hart graduated from Berklee College of Music and joined the group in 2021. He also, in his project, recently released an EP, Real, with eight new songs. Jack Ross, also from Glasgow, is the band’s bass guitarist and has been in the music scene since 2013, touring with a friend, Kieran Roberson, in 2017. He joined Emily Tate and Kieran Roberson to form the band Till Death Do Us Part and is part of Mark Daly and the Ravens. Rounding out the band is Danny Laverde, from Ohio, on drums. Danny grew up with music all around him and had been playing the drums since he was eight. He can play everything from Rock & Progressive Metal to Jazz Fusion and Afro-Cuban. He had toured with Puddle of Mudd and Mick Blankenship.

Along with writing, singing, traveling, and touring, Geoff is a winemaker as well. He started young at the age of 14 when he was a boy scout making dandelion wine to get a merit badge. 1983 he started collecting wine and took further steps to see how it of make and how the different regions have different flavors, learning how grapes were grown and where the best places to grow were. So, in 2007 he and his wife, Susan Tate, started their brand. Sourced and made by a renowned family German winery there are two types currently for sale Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. His brand Insania Wine, is sold throughout the US directly from CellarsWineClub.com. I can personally attest to the complex flavors, beautiful Nose, and amazing Body of the Pinot Noir, and it is my new definite go-to since trying it.

MARK DALY AND THE RAVENS

It's never easy to find balance when on tour, however, Mark Daly has come with an amazing family structure that has allowed him to travel to become the musician that we get to see. Mark Daly started young when he was 15 his family left Ireland and opened a bar with live music in sunny Spain. From the moment he saw performers on stage live every night he realized that's where he wanted to be. He started out as a bass player for bands like the kites and the voodoos. After getting spotted by a music manager, he ended up in London recording then moved back to Ireland to get a fan base behind him. Since then, he has toured with Candlebox throughout Europe and played for the MTV EMA awards. Today he's touring all over the world with his band, the Ravens opening for Geoff Tate and his band. Mark Daly was in the Battle of the Bands when he went head-to-head with his now lead guitarist, James Brown. They were in the finals of the competition, and Mark remembers watching him play, thinking how much passion, freedom, and how much he seems to love to play. He knew at that moment he wanted to play in a band with him

The other members of the band he met through his work with Geoff Tate. He says Jack Ross, bass player, never makes a mistake or takes a bad picture. Mark loves the stage presence that guitarist, Alex Hart, adds to the band as well as his unbelievable work ethic. Rounding out the band is drummer, Danny Laverde. “He has a unique skill and love for practicing to perfect his craft that is inspirational.”

He is equally inspired by many other artists around him, telling me he loves everyone from the Foo Fighters and Candlebox to Pink Floyd and Aerosmith. Currently, he is listening to newer bands like Dead Sara, Dirty Honey, and Wunderhorse. I am also hugely inspired by my wife and kids, so I love to write about the crazy and incredible life that we have. Mark loves touring, and working with other professional musicians, however, he especially loves seeing the fans. “They sing along with our songs, wearing our shirts, and just supporting us so incredibly. I would never take that for granted and it always blows my mind. I love playing live and getting to travel all over the world. Playing in the US has been incredible for me and getting to play the Whisky a GO-GO was a bucket list one for me.”

Mark writes a lot of music and really wants to get started on the next album. “I’m incredibly impatient and I want to get working on the next album. I have so many songs I’m ready to record, but I am learning the art of patience.

I am always writing bits and I regularly get a burst of inspiration and write three or four songs at a time. I find that my best songs come out when I have a build of emotions, I get frustrated and then just let them out. Ten years from now he wants to be touring, headlining shows all over the world, and writing and releasing music he is proud of. “I write from the heart and my lyrics are raw and honest. I want people to feel a connection to my songs and they will want to hear more. Their new ep, Nothing to Lose, was just released in December with Crying Shame as a hot point video and is getting great reviews with the full album scheduled to be out in March 2023.

2023: New Year, New You

Welcome to 2023! Are you ready for it? Regardless if you are a 9 to 5 employee, freelancer, or small/large business owner you need to be ready now. Even if you go to a standard 9 to 5 job you need to plan out the road map for your 2023. It can be a simple as vacation, time with friends/family, or as complicated as your business plan.

As we arrive at the new year ask yourself, if you were driving towards your goal, are you ready? Is there a plan and a mapped-out way to get there? Here are a few tip to get you started:

#1 What is the one thing you want to accomplish in 2023

#2 What 3 things will help you to accomplish that goal

#3 What 5 strategies for each of the 3 things do you have planned

If this seems easy, great, you are on the correct path. If this all seems to much, then you may want to consider hiring a coach. Just like in sports, a coach is there to get you where you want to go in the best timing possible and the benefits of a great coach will pay you back many times over the cost you pay the coach monthly.
