The pulse of cardiac care innovation in Canonsburg Pam Rafferty woke in the middle of the night, her heart pounding. She woke her husband, Edward, and they waited a little while, but her rapid heartbeat continued. So they drove from their home in Peters Township to Canonsburg Hospital emergency department. Pam, 58, received drugs to slow her heart and a referral to interventional cardiologist Dr. J. Travis Wilson. Dr. Wilson ordered Pam’s first EKG in 2015 at Canonsburg Hospital, which revealed an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) called atrial fibrillation.

“I don’t know any other doctor who would do that. He is a very caring man,” she said. Pam was treated in Allegheny General Hospital’s electrophysiology lab. Ultimately she received an internal cardiac defibrillator (ICD). “It tracks my heart rate and can restore a normal rhythm if needed. Every night it transmits data to AHN,” Pam said.

Inside Radiance Chiropractic Welcome to the new Southpointe location of Radiance Chiropractic: the culmination of extensive combined professional experience and the utilization of the most advanced and effective treatment technologies.

This new clinic, directed by husband and wife team Dr. Maurice (Dr. Moe) Pisciottano and Dr. Laurel Gretz Pisciottano, has a unique family history. The back story is surprising. Dr. Moe’s dad, Nick and Dr. Laurel’s dad, Dr. Ron actually grew up together, one street apart in Clairton, PA. Nick established a barber shop back in the 60’s and continues to serve the public with great haircuts to this day. These two dads instilled a work ethic in their children (who eventually married) that is worth honorable mention.

Dr. Laurel Gretz Pisciottano utilizes the ProAdjuster, which is composed of a computer, specialized software system, and a treatment wand. The ProAdjuster system allows Dr. Gretz to diagnose and record the resistance of the joints, muscles, and tissues to determine the cause of a patient’s discomfort.

This practice of chiropractic was originally established in 1965 as the Canonsburg Chiropractic Center. The late Dr. Ronald Gretz, and his wife, Anita, a registered nurse, built a successful practice with a loyal chiropractic patient following. Many of these same patients continue to pursue their health goals with chiropractic care today. In 1989, Dr. Moe and Dr. Laurel graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in the same class, and while Laurel joined the family at Canonsburg Chiropractic, Maurice started his own practice with his mom Rose, under his surname in Waterdam Plaza in McMurray. Both practices flourished, and eventually Dr. Moe’s younger brother decided to become a chiropractor. Dr. Geno Pisciottano practiced in Southpointe for many years and has since relocated to McMurray. Dr. Laurel’s younger brother opted to round out the expertise in the family with his decision to pursue medicine, and Dr. Jeffrey Gretz practices as a board certified internal medicine physician at Waterdam Medical Associates in McMurray. Dr. Moe stepped away from clinical patient care in the late 1990’s in order to pursue his passion for bringing management expertise as well as new treatment technology to the Chiropractic profession. He helped to pioneer the launch of instrument based manipulative care, and developed the Pro-Adjuster technique which allows for comfortable, consistent treatment. Dr. Moe has delivered seminars across the country and all over the world, with the singular goal of making chiropractic the number one healthcare choice on planet earth.

Once the diagnosis is recorded, the ProAdjuster then switches to treatment mode. Wild Things Park Turns 18 Washington Pa.—Residents of Washington County are sitting on an asset most communities would love to claim. That asset is Wild Things Park, and the facility is turning 18 years old this spring. Wild Things Park opened as the home of The Washington Wild Things on May19, 2002. The beautiful little ballpark became the anchor of a development that sits just above the Washington Crown Center. PONY League World Headquarters, Advanced Orthopaedics Hospital, Angelo’s Restaurant, Senior Life, Community Bank, and a myriad of professional offices housing doctors, dentists, and accountants followed the minor league baseball team to the top of the hill in the ensuing 18 years. Wild Things Park is home to The Washington Wild Things, a minor league baseball team that is a member of the independent Frontier League. The “rookie” league requires players to retire when they turn 27 years old, so the majority of the players are young men who didn’t get picked up by a Major League organization. “The baseball is good baseball; the entertainment is outstanding; the location is convenient; the pricing is more than reasonable,” said Mark Verderber, a fan since the team’s inception. Ticket prices range from $5.00 to $15.00. Parking is $5.00 and the team hosts special nights throughout the season when they offer Dollar Hot Dogs, Dollar Beer, Free Kid’s Tickets and Kid’s Meals and much more! Even though the park is small, it offers all of the amenities a big park offers. Many corporations reserve one of the suites to entertain clients and staff; some prefer one of the two picnic areas that boast a 75 minute all-you-can-eat buffet prior to the game. In addition to Wild Things baseball and amateur baseball, the park hosts many other events, including concerts, professional wrestling, antiques fairs, and it even was home to professional bull riding several years ago! The park also hosted a huge political event in 2008 when Senator John McCain and Sarah Palin were campaigning in the Presidential election. Over 11,000 people attended the event and the tour brought national recognition to Wild Things Park. The Wild Things’ organization is open year-round. A small staff – about 10 full time employees – plan for the upcoming season each year. They sell tickets, group outings, and sponsorship packages, and they look for non-baseball 36

entertainment opportunities. “Our goal is to have this facility used every single day the weather permits,” said Steven Zavacky, the General Manager. “Obviously we are an outdoor facility, so that limits some activities, but we want to utilize this space 100%. We consider it to be a community asset, and we want to offer residents here great entertainment, plus we want to assist local non-profits in their fundraising efforts, so we donate the facility for many of their events, like Charity Walks.” The Wild Things’ organization donates not only facility usage, but the team also works with various non- profits throughout the area, offering them fundraising opportunities. Many sell Wild Things tickets and keep a portion of the ticket proceeds, and the Wild Things often donate merchandise and tickets for auctions. In addition, baseball fans will often encounter various non-profit organizations’ display tables when they enter the park. “We want to be good neighbors,” added Zavacky. “And so we are always open to assisting them in any ways that we can whether it’s fundraising or educating.” The face of the organization is the Wild Thing, himself. He attends many events and is always a fan favorite at community events. The beloved mascot attends every Wild Things’ home game and he travels throughout the area, spreading Wild Cheer at parades, at schools, at fundraising events, at businesses, and more. Many companies participate by partnering with the Washington Wild Things. The organization and the facility offer traditional advertising and entertainment opportunities as well as some non-traditional ones too. Because the facility and the team are locally owned and operated, the sky is the limit in terms of conjuring up creative opportunities for partners to brand themselves and/or to entertain themselves and their clients.
