Elements Primary to be headed by South Leeds lass
A new Primary School is to be built in South Leeds in a partnership between Wellspring Academy Trust and Leeds City Council. The 420-place school, subject to planning approval and public consultation, will be located in the heart of Middleton on a currently undeveloped plot at Acre Mount. The planning proposal is expected to go before the council’s planning committee shortly, with the school set to open in September 2018. Elements Primary School, which will educate children aged four to 11, is being built in response to a shortage of school places in Leeds. Admissions through Leeds City Council are now open to children of Reception age in September 2018 and close mid January 2018. Parents and carers considering enrolling their child at Elements Primary will have an opportunity to meet the new Principal this month. Founding Principal Sarah Horsbrough will be hosting an consultation evening on Wednesday 14 December from 5pm to 7pm at Tenants Hall Enterprise Centre, Acre Close in Middleton. Further consultation events, parents evenings and a children’s day are planned and
will be announced shortly. Admissions to Elements Primary School through the Leeds City Council application process are now open to children of Reception age in September 2018. Applications close in mid January 2018. To apply for a place at Elements parents need to complete the form on Leeds City Council’s online admissions page: www.leeds .gov.uk/residents/Pages/ Admissions-PrimarySchool.aspx More information about the new Primary School in South Leeds available from www.elementsprimaryschool .co.uk Miss Horsbrough said: “I’m looking forward to meeting parents and community leaders. Elements Primary School will be an outstanding state-of-the-art school from the outset. We’ll have the very best facilities. Children will be provided with an iPad and they will learn essential skills for tomorrow’s world. “A brand new school provides the best opportunities for a fantastic education. This really is an opportunity to be part of something very special. And, if you apply for your child to be a part of our first reception year, they will stay in the oldest year group throughout their time at Elements.”
Meet Sarah Horsbrough Sarah Horsbrough has been appointed as founding Principal at Elements Primary School. She brings a wealth of educational expertise and is currently Executive Head of two schools in Bradford, but her roots are in South Leeds. Sarah was born in Hunslet and attended Hunslet Middle School, now Hunslet St Mary’s Primary School. She gained “a few O Levels” at high school and having stayed on an extra year to take resits, she decided to leave school and get a job. Through her work with church groups and as a young leader in the Church Lads & Church Girls Brigade it became clear to Sarah that teaching was her calling. She took up a teaching assistant job at Hunslet St Mary’s, and went back to night school to complete her A Levels. Sarah returned twice to Hunslet St Mary’s, firstly as a newly qualified Sarah Horsbrough, Principal of Elements Primary teacher after completing her university on an inclusive approach where all children studies and later as Key Stage 2 Leader. can have the same experiences and achieve We asked Sarah about coming back to to the same standard.
