The RAMP-UP initiative takes on the opioid crisis by providing individuals in recovery with in-demand manufacturing job training and employment opportunities. Launched in the fall 2018, RAMP-UP acts as a vital guardrail against relapse. It offers recovering addicts a training program that can lead to job prospects and, in turn, hope for a better future. Matching the needs of the local employer base, participants acquire marketable technical skills through a five-month career program that culminates with the MSSC Certified Production Technician (CPT) credential. The program is at no cost for eligible individuals and includes job placement assistance.

Attendance and dedication to the program was remarkable, according to organizers, despite significant barriers including transportation, and in the case of one student, homelessness. Due to the positive results of the pilot, the program was continued with a second cohort that began in June 2019.

“As workforce development professionals, the only weapons we have at our disposal to battle the opioid epidemic are job training and employment services,” said workNet DuPage Executive Director Lisa Schvach. “While it seems like an unfair fight, we won a small battle with the pilot program, and we hope to see our clients continue to succeed.”

A network of stakeholders lent expertise and resources to make the program a success, including: the DuPage County Health Department, the DuPage County Probation & Court Services, College of DuPage, DuPage County Community Services, Healthcare Alternative Systems, Serenity House, and JUST of DuPage.

The Village of Lombard’s mosquito abatement program with Clarke Mosquito Control includes the standard treatment all of standing waters with larvicide, but the village also

goes beyond many other municipalities by also treating backyard (i.e. private) catch basins. It is important to note that there are many species of mosquitoes that impact the Lombard area. Art Fair celebrates its 64th year

Boasting a rich history and wealth of gifted artists, along with status as one of the Southland’s most valued annual treasures, the Park Forest Art Fair, sponsored by Tall Grass Arts Association (TGAA), in September celebrates its 64th year, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept.

21 and Sunday, Sept. 22, in downtown Park Forest on the Village Green.

The artists hail from all over the metropolitan area. This year TGAA is pleased to introduce 23 new artists including Tim Arnold of Villa Park.

Arnold graduated from the Art College of DuPage with an Associate of Art degree and later graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts awarded with Honors at Illinois State University. He works with work with ceramics and sculpture.

He won the Best in Category at both the Port Clinton Art Festival in Highland Park, and the Third Ward Art Festival in Milwaukee. He won first place at the Lakeview East Festival in Arts in Chicago.

Area mosquito spraying took place last week Clarke Mosquito conducted spraying in Villa Park, Elmhurst and Lombard last week to control the adult mosquito population.

According to information provided by the Village of Villa Park, Clarke Mosquito conducted spraying in the three municipalities during the evening of Sept. 11.

The Village of Lombard related last week that the DuPage County Health Department has confirmed two cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) in Lombard.

The county health department stated earlier this month that the key factors in determining the degree of WNV activity are temperatures and rainfall. In hot, dry weather, mosquitoes that carry WNV (primarily Culex mosquitoes) breed in stagnant water and multiply rapidly.

Approximately one in five people who are infected with WNV will de-

velop symptoms such as fever, headache, body aches, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea or rash. Less than one percent will develop a serious illness.

According to the health department, the best way to prevent WNV is to “Fight the Bite” and follow the “4 Ds of Defense” to avoid mosquito bites: • Drain: Drain items that collect standing water around your home, yard or business. Scrub and refill pet water dishes and birdbaths regularly.

• Defend: Use an insect repellent containing DEET when outdoors and reapply according to directions.

• Dress: Wear long pants, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes when outside to cover the skin.

• Dusk to Dawn: Wear repellent outdoors during these prime times for mosquito activity.

Krause was recognized by Dr. Jason Leahy, executive director of the IPA. Krause has been a member of the IPA since 2002. During his time with the association, he has served as president-elect, member of the Board of

Directors and member of the Membership Committee. Krause also has served the DuPage Region as State Director, Awards chairperson and member of the State Superintendent’s Principal Advisory Council.

Krause has been recognized by his peers as the 2013 DuPage County High School Principal of the Year by the IPA, a finalist for the 2016 Golden Apple Stanley C. Golder Leadership Award and the Illinois State Board of Education’s Those Who Excel program.

DuPage state reps, County Sheriff partner to fight opioid crisis Between 2015 and 2018, opioid deaths in DuPage County almost doubled, from 51 reported deaths in 2015 to 98 deaths in 2018. In an effort to reverse this alarming trend, four DuPage County Republican State Representatives are partnering with DuPage Sheriff James Mendrick to fight the epidemic through distribution of a new, easy-to-use drug disposal system.

House Republican Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs), along with state Reps. Deanne Mazzochi (R-Elmhurst), Grant Wehrli (R-Naperville) and Amy Grant (R-Wheaton), are helping Mendrick distrib-

ute disposable bags that deactivate the harmful ingredients in opioid pills or patches.

According to Mendrick, individuals with leftover opioids simply have to put them into the bag, add water, and shake. A drug deactivation system then breaks down the drugs to a point where they can safely be thrown in the trash. Mendrick said any leftover prescription of up to 45 pills or six fentanyl patches can be destroyed in the pouches.

The disposal bags were made available to the sheriff’s office free of charge through a grant obtained by the Illinois Sheriffs Association.

“The majority of those who abuse opioids are finding the drugs in medicine cabinets,” said Leader Durkin. “These leftover pain pills represent the starting point of an opioid addition. Providing a free and safe way for people to dispose of their unused medications will go far in preventing opioid addictions and overdoses.”

Rob Reynolds, director of Advocacy for Verde Technologies, which produces the drug deactivation bags, said the use of the pouches for opioid disposal will save lives.

“Once it’s in the pouch, it’s permanently unavailable for abuse or

Sept. 11 Marisol Marquez-Cabral, 46, of Bellwood, was charged with criminal trespass to property and four counts of violation of bail bond/failure-to-appear warrant at around 9:32 p.m. Police said that while on patrol, officers located Marquez-Cabral on village property; from which she was banned.

Sept. 10 Robert T. Long, Jr., 74, was charged with aggravated resisting a police officer, battery and criminal trespass to real property in the 200 block of W. Lake at around 10:46 p.m. Police said Long Jr. yelled obscenities at the victim, resisted arrest and struck an officer’s hand.

Sept. 9 A 43-year-old Addison woman was processed for an original warrant for domestic battery at around 9:35 p.m. Police said the suspect struck a victim multiple times with a belt.

Sept. 7 A 22-year-old Addison man was charged with domestic battery and resisting arrest, while a 33-year-old Addison man was charged with domestic battery in the 1-100 block of W. Elizabeth at around 10:48 p.m.

Police said officers were dispatched for an injured subject. Upon arrival, officers determined that the two suspects were involved in a domestic battery. One of the suspects reportedly struck a female relative, and the other suspect then reportedly struck the suspect who struck the female

In August, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported the death of an individual who had recently vaped and was hospitalized with severe respiratory illness. The department also reported that the number of cases of people reported to IDPH who have used e-cigarettes or vaped and have been hospitalized with respiratory symptoms has doubled in the past week.

In addition the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that more than 149 possible cases of severe lung illness associated with e-cigarette product use were reported by 15 states between June 28 and Aug. 20.

Illinois Secure Choice program takes aim at ‘retirement crisis’

More than 24,000 private sector Illinois workers have collectively stashed away more than $5 million in retirement savings since January as part of a new state program that increases access to retirement accounts for individuals whose employers do not already offer them.

Illinois Secure Choice was created by state law in 2015, requiring businesses with 25 employees or more to offer retirement savings plans or take part in the new program, which automatically enrolls workers in a state-created but independently managed retirement plan.

Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs said in a phone interview the program, which will roll out its final phase in November, is the state’s attempt at addressing a nationwide “retirement crisis.”

“Half of working adults have a mean retirement account of zero dollars,” Frerichs said. “It is in our best interest to make sure that people have saved their own money for their retirement. Not just so they can enjoy their golden years, … but also because it is bad for our economy when an entire generation of people reach retirement, and then dramatically decrease their spending because they’re living on a much lower fixed income.”

While the treasurer’s office and an appointed, unpaid board of advisors oversee the program, the money invested by Illinois workers goes straight to an account managed by Ascensus, an independent Pennsylva-

nia-based financial services company that won the bid to administer the program.

That means employees opening the retirement accounts remain in complete control of their money and the state cannot use the funds for any other purpose.

For those saving their money, the only restrictions on the retirement accounts are those that apply to any other privately held retirement account.

Frerichs said the goal of the program is to reduce the roadblocks to retirement savings, because workers often don’t seek to start their own retirement account if not directly offered one by their employer.

“If you start someone saving automatically, most of them continue to save,” he said. “If you make people take some sort of action to save, people put it off. A person with a workplace retirement savings option is 15 times more likely to be saving for their retirement. It’s just simple human nature.”

Businesses with 100 employees or more that do not already offer retirement plans have been enrolling in the program since January. Come November, more than 10,000 employers—those employing between 25 and 99 full-time or part-time individuals—are expected to join the program as part of the final tier of its rollout.

Once a business is enrolled, employees who do not opt out of the program will be automatically enrolled in a Roth IRA savings account, which is accessible at saver.ilsecurechoice. com, a state-run website with infor-

mation on the program.

A default rate of 5 percent of the employee’s income is withheld from each paycheck and deposited into the account, although the employee has the right to adjust or cancel that con-

tribution at any time. They can also choose how aggressive the plan will be from a handful of options.

Employees enrolled in the program pay an annual fee of 0.75 percent of their invested money—a rate

capped at that amount by state law.

Frerichs said that rate pays for the administration of the program and is on par with other private retirement plans which generally charge in the area of 1 percent.

Warriors come alive to win conference opener Four second-half touchdowns in a 29-0 surge to end the game

The Willowbrook football team rebounded from a flat first half to light up the scoreboard in the second half of Friday’s home game against Downers Grove South. The Warriors scored the game’s last 29 points to earn a 32-15 victory in their West Suburban Gold Conference opener.

Willowbrook, which has posted perfect 6-0 conference records in each of the last two seasons, improved its overall 2019 record to 2-1.

The Warriors will play a conference game at Leyden (1-2, 1-0) this Friday. Leyden began the West Suburban Gold season with Friday’s 22-0 victory over Morton.

Downers Grove South, which fell to 1-2 overall, scored its touchdowns at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half. Trailing 15-3 and in danger of suffering their first conference loss since 2016, the Warriors produced four touchdown drives—two in the third quarter and two more in the fourth quarter. Senior Sam Tumilty threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score in the second half. Tumilty fired two touchdown passes to senior Everett Stubblefield in the fourth quarter.

“Our guys battled and hung in,” said Willowbrook coach Nick Hildreth after Friday’s victory. “We haven’t been in a rhythm all year offensively. For a quarter and a-half or so we got ourselves into a rhythm and finished drives.”

The Mustangs opened the scoring by converting a 27-yard field goal attempt early in the second quarter. The Warriors responded with a field goal of their own on the ensuing drive. Tumilty’s 53-yard pass to senior Deandre Holliday set up the score—a 26-yard field goal by sophomore Izzy Manning that tied the game at 3-3 with about nine minutes to play in the first half.

The Mustangs nearly took up the rest of the second quarter on their next drive, which ended with a 1-yard touchdown run with just 24.9 seconds left in the half. Downers Grove South ran for a two-point conversion but failed, leaving the team with a 9-3 lead.

The Mustangs received the second-half kickoff and drove 60 yards for a touchdown—a 2-yard scoring run. The conversion pass failed.

Downers Grove South held a 15-3 lead with less than nine minutes to play in the third quarter.

Willowbrook’s next drive covered 60 yards in less than two minutes.

Manning added the extra-point kick to cut the Mustangs’ lead to 15-10 with 6:50 left in the third quarter.

“The coaches got on us at halftime,” said Tumilty. “They scolded us and said we needed to play with more heart in the second half. They scored early in the second half and we knew we had to score. We had to keep working on offense and stop them on defense.”

Willowbrook’s defense forced a punt on the Mustangs’ ensuing drive.

The Warriors then marched 80 yards for a go-ahead score—a 1-yard run

by Tumilty that gave the team its first lead of the night. Tumilty added a successful two-point conversion run

to boost Willowbrook’s lead to 18-15 with 1:25 left in the third period.

The Warriors’ defensive unit delivered another stop on Downers Grove South’s ensuing drive. Willowbrook took possession late in the third quarter and produced a 64-yard touchdown drive that ended with Tumilty’s 35-yard touchdown toss to Stubblefield with 10:45 left in the fourth quarter.

Tumilty threw the pass high in the air to Stubblefield, who made the catch near the 7-yard line and fought off a defender as he crossed the goal line.

“I beat him [the defender] deep, and Sam led me with the pass,” said Stubblefield. “At halftime our coaches got on us about not playing hard and not playing to the best of our abilities. Once we scored our first touchdown, that’s when the momen-

tum started going.”

Willowbrook’s next offensive drive covered 52 yards and ended with Tumilty’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Stubblefield. Manning’s third extra-point kick of the game closed

out the scoring. A strong run by sophomore Jaylon White helped set up the Warriors’ last touchdown.

“He came in and gave us a spark late in the game,” said Hildreth of White.

Fenton football team loses in double overtime to Streamwood Bess turns in another strong performance for Bison

While the result isn’t what it hoped for, the Fenton football team continued pushing forward in Week 3.

The Bison went to Streamwood and lost a tough 28-21 Upstate Eight Conference game to Streamwood in double overtime at Millennium Field.

The loss put Fenton at 2-1 overall

and 2-1 in UEC play.

“It was a good high school football game,” Fenton coach Matt Lynch said. “It was a back-and-forth battle.

At times, we played really well and executed, and at times we had some mental mistakes. It was the mistakes that ultimately cost us the football game. It’s not so much what Streamwood did, but what we didn’t do.”

Lynch referenced a pair of Fenton red-zone possessions. “We did not capitalize on those two possessions,” he said.

“We had one early in the game

and one late. The one early, we easily could have gone up 21-0, instead it’s 14-7. They took advantage. When you play in these types of games, that’s what ultimately hurts you.”

Lynch said a game such as this could prove beneficial in the long run.

“As I explained to the coaches and players when I talked to them after the game, when you are rebuilding a program, you may have to go through this where you have these moments,” he said.

“You use it as a wakeup call or whatever you call it. We took some

The Willowbrook girls volleyball team opened its West Suburban Gold Conference season with last week’s match at Addison Trail. The Blazers edged the Warriors 25-13, 20-25, 25-20. Willowbrook held a 15-13 advantage in the decisive third game, but Addison Trail won nine of the next 10 points to take a 22-16 lead. The DuPage County Heroin Opioid Prevention and Education (HOPE) Taskforce recently outlined its framework and means to reduce the number of opioid deaths in DuPage County over the next three years.

The Taskforce agreed to five objectives to address the ongoing public health crisis facing our community.

Addison Trail boys’ soccer team seeded 10th out of 70 at PepsiCo tournament

The Addison Trail boys’ soccer team is in a great place heading into an extremely tough portion of its schedule.

The Blazers were 6-1 through their first seven contests, including a 2-0 mark in the West Suburban Conference Gold Division.

Addison Trail downed Sycamore 3-2 to take third at its own Joe Novy tournament. The Blazers also recorded recent WSC Gold wins against Hinsdale South (6-1) and District 88 neighbor Willowbrook (6-1). The win against Willowbrook keeps the District 88 Soccer Trophy at Addison Trail for a fifth straight year.

However, with his team off to a good start, coach Ryan Dini knows his players will have to be at the top of their games with a tough part of the schedule looming.

The Blazers played DundeeCrown earlier this week in the Pep-

siCo tournament and will play at Wheaton Academy today (5:30 p.m. or 7 p.m.) in another PepsiCo game.

Addison Trail is seeded 10th out of 70 teams in the prestigious annual event.

“We have a nice record right now with our only loss to a solid Glenbard North team,” Dini said. “Our next three weeks of the schedule is very difficult with four games in the PepsiCo Challenge, away games at Leyden and Glenbard West, and homes games against York and Proviso East. We are looking forward to the challenge and really learning more about what our team needs to improve on. These three weeks have big implications on state seedings for the playoffs, so we need to get some wins against very good competition.”

Through seven games, junior Aaron Sanchez was leading the team with seven goals and two assists.

Junior Anthony Hernandez had five goals and one assist, while senior

Leo Acosta had three goals and four assists.

Senior Jose Galindo had four goals and three assists.

Senior goalie Ernesto Padua had a 1.00 goals-against average and a .860 save percentage.

Dini said Addison Trail is excelling in the second half of games. “We are doing a really good job of putting one half together this season,” he said. “So far, we have been playing really good in the second half of soccer games. Our adjustments at halftime have been working and we play with much more urgency and speed.

We are also finding different ways to win games.”

Along the same lines, Dini touched on the need for Addison Trail to come out of the gates even stronger.

“We are starting out slow and not using our speed to start games. We have switched up our warmup and constantly talk about starting out fast, but have yet to accomplish the

The Willowbrook girls’ volleyball team did a little bit of everything right.

And the result of that was winning the recent Leyden invitational with a 5-0 mark.

“We did a lot of exciting things,” Willowbrook coach Irene Mason said. “Our serving has really come alive. Serving is a big part of our offense. We were serving aggressively and that helped us a lot. We played great defense and our hitters are scoring much better. Everybody played great.”

Willowbrook opened the tournament with a 25-10, 25-6 win over Chicago Taft. Katie Linnig had one kill, four aces, six assists and one dig. Payton Ceh had one kill, five aces, nine digs and one assist. Noelle Faulk had three kills, one block and two digs. Kyla Ostrowski had seven kills, two aces and one dig.

Grace Reckamp had one kill, seven aces, one block, four digs and four assists. Stephanie Dasbach had one kill and two blocks.

Willowbrook closed the tournament with a 17-25, 25-14, 16-14 come-from-behind win over Conant to move to 10-5 on the season.

Cipriano had six kills, one block and two digs. Espinosa had one ace, three digs and one assist. Linnig had three aces, seven assists and six digs. Ceh had two kills, 15 digs and two assists. Mendoza had three kills, two blocks and one dig. Lopez had three aces and six digs. Faulk finished with one kill, one block and three digs. Ostrowski had three kills, four aces and four digs. Reckamp had eight kills, one ace, one block and 12 digs and Dasbach had five kills and three blocks.

“We ended up pulling out that last match against Conant, which was big,” said Mason.

Mason has been particularly impressed with Reckamp’s play of late, along with a host of others.

“Grace is leading us on all levels of the floor with her serving, her sets, her swings and defense,” she said.

“She’s playing all-around great volleyball. Payton Ceh is a great leader for us and she stands out defensively as always. Kyla Ostrowski is our No. 1 outside hitter and is finding ways to score the ball. She’s serving aggressively and passing well.

“Stephanie Dasbach is a middle for us and is doing a great job blocking and is getting more comfortable hitting. She’s is connecting with both setters very well. And this is the first time this season Katie Linnig is looking exactly how I want her to at our other setter position. She was all over the place at Leyden. She had a good selection of sets and was playing smart out there. Her serving is back to what it was. She really carried us.”

“We were upset we lost Elizabeth Bruschuk to injury before the season, but the girls have definitely stepped up,” said Mason. “Hopefully we can continue going up and keep winning. We’re playing well at the right time.”

We are using all 19 players on our roster each game, and our depth is really wearing teams out in the second half. This is also keeping all our players engaged in the game and ready to play when their number is called.”

The numbers are equally impressive on the defensive end where Addison Trail has three shutouts in seven games, and in those other four games, the Blazers have let up two goals twice and one goal twice.

“Our defense has had a couple of key injuries in the past week, but some of our juniors have really stepped up,” said Dini. “Our team depth has really helped out and we hope to get two players back from injury in the next couple of weeks, which should add to making our defense even stronger.”

Padua has given Addison Trail a strong presence in goal. “Ernesto has been really solid in net for us,” said Dini. “He is a leader on the field and is very technical as well. He is excellent on restarts and very accurate in passing from the back on our transitions and switching the field of attack.”

Dini also praised the play of sophomore Sandoval and Sanchez.

“Alex is our only sophomore on varsity and has worked his way into the starting lineup,” he said. “He has a very high work rate and wins back a lot of soccer balls in the middle of the field for us. I have been really impressed with how physical he plays and how he uses his body to shield off defenders. He has been an excellent addition to our rotation and has earned starting minutes.”

Dini pointed out Sanchez had a recent two-game stretch where he stepped up his scoring totals. “Aaron can play forward or wing for us and adds speed and size to our attack,” he said. “This is his first year playing for Addison Trail.”

Sanchez played with the Eclipse club soccer team the last two seasons.

Addison Trail girls’ volleyball team off to solid start

The returns have been good so far for the Addison Trail girls’ volleyball team.

The Blazers, under the direction of coach Dan Styler, were 10-5 through their first 15 contests and 1-0 in West Suburban Conference Gold Division action after beating District 88 neighbor Willowbrook in three, 25-13, 2025, 25-20.

In other recent action, the Blazers were 25-10, 25-9 non-conference winners over Fenton. Addison Trail also took second in the Willowbrook tournament, going 4-1 there. The Blazers beat West Chicago, Glenbard North, Willowbrook and Glenbard South, and lost 25-21, 20-25, 26-28 to Metea Valley in the championship match.

Through the first 15 contests, senior standout Jessica D’Ambrose was leading the team in kills with 108, service aces with 20 and was passing at a 2.15 clip on a 3.0 scale.

Junior Mia Johnson was leading the team in blocks with 24 and senior Amy Reyes was tops in setting assists with 277.

Styler has seen particular improvement on defense and at the net.

“We have been playing strong defense,” he said. “Our back-row defenders always are tough. We’ve also made some positive strides with the efficiency of our blocking scheme.”

Styler especially liked how his team performed in the win against Fenton. “In our match against Fenton, I was happy with our improvement in covering our hitters,” he said. “Also, we got a step faster in transition and it showed with our offensive efficiency.”

Styler explained the Blazers have started to diversify their offensive scheme more so compared to the beginning of the season. “Ally Severi-

no has really stepped up as a versatile option to move offensively,” he said.

The coach added the team’s passing attack improves as matches wear on. “Once our passers get settled into a match, we have a talented group of ball-control players,” Styler said.

“Our hope is to get off to a strong start in this are in each match.”

Johnson has been a key bright spot defensively at the net. “Mia Johnson has proven to be our best blocker with her transition to right side,” Styler pointed out. “She disrupts the attackers on the opposite side of the net.”

Reyes was cited for her consistent approach running the offense. “Amy has been a steady facilitator on our side of the net,” Styler said. “She is putting her hitters in a position to score routinely. I’m so impressed by how much she has transformed as a leader over the years with her poise and confidence.”

Styler also lauded the recent play of D’Ambrose, Severino and senior outside Katrina Bielanski.

“Jessica continues to amaze us in every match,” he said. “However, we have also seen Ally flourish. It’s rare to see a middle blocker that can play multiple positions like she can.

We’ve also benefited from the allaround contributions of Katrina. Her game has evolved since last year.”

Addison Trail returned to conference play earlier this week against Leyden.

“We’ve played some stellar teams so far,” said Styler. “We are happy to have 10 wins so far, but we’ve learned so much from our five losses. We squared up against some of the premier teams in the state and it helped us go back to the drawing board with areas to improve upon.

We have a group of resilient young ladies. Every loss will help us get better.”

The Willowbrook boys’ golf team had Leyden’s number this past week.

The Warriors not only won the Leyden quad, but downed the Eagles in a West Suburban Conference Gold Division matchup.

Willowbrook won the Leyden quad at White Pines in Bensenville with a team score of 334 on the par72 layout.

Willowbrook was 41 shots better than second-place Leyden. Fenton took third with a 388 and Maine East

was fourth with a 414.

The win moved Willowbrook to 5-2 in duals this season. Willowbrook has won four in a row. (See photos and individual results from the Leyden quad inside this issue.)

Earlier in the week, the Warriors downed Leyden 150-162 in the WSC Gold dual at Sugar Creek in Villa Park.

Senior Joey Zopel led the Warriors with a 35 on the par-32 track. Freshman Brett Vandergrift finished with a 38, as did junior Nick Cipriano. Senior Utah Keehner rounded out the

Willowbrook was scheduled to play in the West Chicago invitational earlier this week at St. Andrews before facing Morton in a WSC Gold dual at Fresh Meadows. Willowbrook is slated to head to Village Greens in Glen Ellyn today to face off against Downers Grove South in another WSC Gold contest.

After Downers Grove South, Willowbrook rounds out its regular-season schedule with the Addison Trail quad at Oak Meadows before facing Addison Trail in its annual District 88 dual meet, which is scheduled for Saturday Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. at Prairie Bluff in Lockport.

Prairie Bluff also is the site of the WSC Gold tournament on Oct. 1.

PUBLIC NOTICE Public notice is hereby given to all persons concerned that on August 21, 2019, the Board of Police Commissioners of Bensenville, Illinois, voted to amend the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the Village of Bensenville. The rule change pertains to the educational requirements necessary for applicants for the position of entry level police officer within the Village of Bensenville. Previously, Chapter III, Section 4 of the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Police Commissioners of the Village of Bensenville required a four year Bachelor’s degree as an educational minimum for entry level police officers. Chapter III, Section 4 has been amended to lower the educational requirements as follows: No person shall be appointed the Department if he or she does not possess a high school diploma or an equivalent high school education. Police applicants must also possess a minimum of 60 semester college credit hours (or an equivalent from a quarter system) from an accredited college or university at the time of application submission. An exception to this requirement shall apply to applicants who within two years of the date of application have completed a minimum of three years of military service (with an honorable discharge) and possess a primary specialty of security, law enforcement, or military police as listed on the DD form 214.

Printed copies of the amended Rules and Regulations may be obtained from the office of the Village Clerk of Bensenville, 12 South Center Street, Bensenville, Illinois, 60106. The amended Rules and Regulations shall be effective ten (10) days after the date of publication of this notice.
