Youth theater group presents outdoor production in Villa Park this week
SGP performs ‘Macbeth’ at the Rugaard Gazebo on Friday and Saturday
Saint Genesius Productions (SGP), a youth theater organization founded in 2010, will present its outdoor production of William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” this week in Villa Park. The two performances will begin at 7 p.m. this Friday, July 30, and Saturday, July 31, at the Rugaard Gazebo, which is located along the Illinois Prairie Path, just west of Ardmore Avenue. While admission is free, donations of $5 per person are suggested and appreciated. Parental discretion is advised, as the play includes violent scenes. The cast of 26 and crew of 10 have been rehearsing outdoors at Villa Park’s Rotary Park since June. SGP’s costumers have built a dozen kilts from scratch. The production’s fight choreographer has prepared its actors to clash with both fists and steel. Given the witches, murder, and mayhem, SGP anticipates an entertaining production. SGP has been struggling over the past year with ways to keep its student actors and crew engaged with theater during the COVID-19 pandemic.
