Fishing in Villa Park

Villa Park’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Villa Park Sportsmen’s Club held their annual Family Fishing Derby on Saturday morning, June 7, at North Terrace Park. The free event featured several prizes for children. The Villa Park Sportsmen’s Club presented those prizes in multiple categories. Villa Park’s Jimmy Xiloj won the prize for catching the largest fish during the derby. Near the end of the 3-hour event, he reeled in a carp that weighed 7.3 pounds and was measured at 26 inches long. (Left): Jimmy (right) is pictured with his older brother, Erick (left). Villa Park’s Genevieve Smolek (right), who is 10 years old, won a new fishing rod for catching the most fish (51) during Saturday’s derby. Genevieve, who is heading into sixth grade at Jefferson Middle School, is a three-time champion in that category. She also caught the most fish during the 2023 and 2024 events at North Terrace Park. One more photo from Saturday’s fishing derby shows Bradley Dymurski (below) of Villa Park with his son, Liam, after they caught a 15¼-inch channel catfish.
