Longtime Villa Park restaurant continues to serve its customers Hi-View provides delivery, carryout and curbside service of breakfast, lunch and dinner

STAFF REPORT

Villa Park’s Hi-View Restaurant, like every other restaurant in Illinois, has been closed to dine-in service for nearly two months. The restaurant, located at 425 W. St. Charles Road, has remained open to provide carryout, curbside and delivery service during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We’re doing it for our regular customers; they keep our doors open,” said Chris Iliopoulos, who coowns the restaurant with his brother Tony, during a busy run of orders on the afternoon of Saturday, May 9. “We’re doing it for our employees, who depend on their paycheck.” The restaurant, which employs about 35 people, has been open since 1962. Chris and Tony’s late father— Nick, who passed away in 2014, bought the business with his brother Jimmy in the late 1970s. Nick, who was preceded in death by his brother, owned the business for 36 years. On March 15, Gov. JB Pritzker ordered all restaurants in Illinois to close to dine-in service at the end of business on March 16. Almost two months later, it’s uncertain when the state’s restaurants might be allowed to reopen to regular dine-in service. According to the latest announcements from the governor, restaurants in Illinois won’t return to normal operations until late June at the earliest. “Your guess is as good as mine,” said Chris in response to a question about when dine-in service might resume. “We’re anxious to sit down with everybody and have dinner in the dining room.” Hi-View, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, is currently taking orders—seven days a week—from 7:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. Its phone number is 630-627-6611. “We do it all here—breakfast,

Hi-View Restaurant in Villa Park, which has been open since 1962, is providing its customers with delivery, carryout and curbside service while all Illinois restaurants are closed to on-site dining. Gov. JB Pritzker ordered all of the state’s restaurants to close to dine-in service in mid-March because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hi-View, which has been operated by the same family since the late 1970s, offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. lunch and dinner,” said Chris, who noted a shift in the last couple of months. “I feel like afternoons and evenings are busier now; it used to be the opposite. Carryout has always

been good at night. We used to be busier in the morning, but now it’s kind of flip-flopped. You’ve got a lot of local business people who aren’t working. Businesses are closed, so

there’s less traffic during the day.” Chris added that Hi-View has continued to offer its full menu since the restaurant has been closed to dine-in service.

“We appreciate everybody’s support, and look forward to serving them in-house as soon as possible,” he said. “We wish everybody good health.”
