They followed a previous public input meeting at the same location on Dec. 29. Itasca-based Williams Architects, which has been working with the Village of Villa Park on recreation projects since 1996, delivered presentations at the recent meetings to provide conceptual plans about what a community center at Lions Park might offer. The plans included options that featured indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities. In September 2021, the Village of Villa Park learned that the State of Illinois budget would include $10 million for the village to use for costs associated with the construction of a parks and recreation center. The funding is in the form of a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). The village needs funding beyond the $10 million grant to pay for a new recreation facility.
