Bullwinkel to run for U.S House of Representatives By Paul DelGuidice For The Villa Park Independent

VILLA PARK — Last week, Villa Park Village President Deborah Bullwinkel announced her intention to seek the Democratic nomination for U.S. House of Representatives in Illinois’ 8th District. Current holding the seat is Tammy Duckworth, chose not to run for a third term in the House, opting instead to run against incumbent U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Illinois) in the upcoming November 2016 election. Bullwinkel, 47, a communications consultant, was first elected to the Villa Park Board of Trustees in 2009. In 2013, she successfully ran for Village President. The announcement of her intentions to seek the Congressional seat in the 8th District came on Tuesday, August 25, just one day before the 95th anniversary of ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave women full voting rights in the United States. In her announcement, she stressed her gender and called out the Republican-controlled House of Representatives by releasing the following statement: “Every day, politicians in Congress zealously attack middle-class families and women.

Whether it is fair wages and pay equity, economic opportunity for the middle class, paid family leave, or access to good health care and reproductive

rights, extremist Republicans in Congress will fight any positive change. If you’re a working person, and especially if you’re a woman, the assault

never stops. I won’t back down from that fight.” Democratic challengers for the seat include Hoffman Estates lawyer/small business

owner Raja Krishnamoorthi, and Michael Noland of Elgin, who is currently serving the
