VILLA PARK — The Villa Park Board of Trustees voted unanimously during their Monday, August 24 Formal meeting to approve the renovation of Cortesi Veterans Memorial Park, 320 E. Kenilworth Ave. The current park has a Nike Ajax missile from the 1950’s displayed at the north end, thus the moniker ‘Missile Park.’ Renovation plans call for the missile to be moved to the Villa Park VFW Post # 2801 on St. Charles Rd. A new flag pole at the south side of the park, surrounded by a 21-inch high ‘seat wall’ will have columns dedicated to veterans of the various branches of the U.S. Military as well as those missing in action. “We need this memorial,” said former VFW Post #2801 Commander Dennis Geiseman at the meeting. “We need it in the worst way. This (memorial) will recognize our veterans, all veterans.” Additionally, the renovation plan by 3D Design Studio adds new concrete paths for bicycles and pedestrians on both the east and west side of the park. The current south sidewalk will also be relocated to better serve the memorial. Engraved paver bricks with the names of veterans will be incorporated into this path. The center lawn por-
