Village plans rededication ceremony at Cortesi Park Gathering takes place Memorial Day at 11 a.m. By Dee Longfellow For The Villa Park Independent

VILLA PARK — It will be an extra special Memorial Day this coming weekend, when the community turns out to celebrate and rededicate Cortesi Veterans Memorial Park. The

ceremony will take place on Monday, May 30 at 11 a.m. at the park, located where Cortesi meets Kenilworth. The festivities will begin with public and village officials, followed by a performance by the Willowbrook

High School Choir, an official ribbon-cutting, and a chance to pay tribute to veterans in the Villa Park community who have passed away. Renovation improvements have just been completed at the park, which now has a new

central plaza featuring flag poles and memorial columns, honoring each branch of U.S. military service. There are also new benches, sidewalks, landscaping, sod, a watering system and a relocated drinking fountain. In addition, upgrades

and enhancements were made to the historic Train Depot, the place the Villa Park Historical Society calls home. The park is named after longtime Villa Park resident Dr. L. R. Cortesi, who served during World War II.
