White has awarded FY19 Illinois Public Library Per Capita and Equalization Aid Grants totaling $15.4 million to 631 public libraries serving nearly 12 million patrons, according to a news release from his office. Award amounts are based on the population of a given library district. A library must apply each year for a grant and outline what the money would be used for. “[The award amount is] unique for every different library,” she added. Villa Park Public Library Executive Director Sandy Hill said their $27,380 grant will help fund the library’s electronic databases, which typically runs between $50,000 and $60,000 per year. Hill said in addition to applying each year for a grant, the library must assess its strengths and areas for improvement in order meet state library standards, so the process serves as “an evaluation of [our] services.” Some of the valuable services public libraries provide with these grants include: • Large print materials; • Books, magazines, newspapers, CDs and DVDs; • Audiobooks and eBooks; • Home visit book delivery service; • New computers, iPads and printers; SUBMITTED PHOTO Villa Park Independent • Spanish and dual language materials; • Expanded access to online resources; Villa Park Recreation’s preschool program concluded with a graduation for the 4-year-old children.
