Man sentenced to seven years for DUI hit-and-run Incident took place in Villa Park
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced last week that a Glen Ellyn man accused of a hit-and-run crash in Villa Park has been sentenced to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Lawrence Sieber, 64, appeared at a sentencing hearing where Judge Jeffrey MacKay handed down the sentence. On March 5, Sieber entered
a plea of guilty to one count of Aggravated DUI Causing Great Bodily Harm, a Class 4 felony. On January 22, 2017, at approximately 4:50 p.m., Sieber ignored a stop sign at Ardmore and Jackson in Villa Park and T-boned another vehicle in the intersection, severely injuring the driver. Following that crash, Sieber fled the scene and was involved in three other crashes, one in Villa Park and two in Lombard. Responding officers located Sieber driving his truck on Roosevelt Road
and began to pursue Sieber. During the pursuit, while stopped at a traffic light, Sieber rammed his truck into the car in front of him in an effort to elude arrest but was unsuccessful. He was taken into custody at that time following a brief struggle with officers in which he had to be forcibly removed from his truck. He appeared in Bond Court the following day and has remained in custody since that time at the DuPage County Jail on a bond of $750,000 with 10 percent to apply.
“There is a reason why drinking and driving is against the law – to protect the motoring public from people like Mr. Sieber,” Berlin said. “Not only did Mr. Sieber think nothing of driving after he had been drinking, he thought nothing of the potential harm he could cause to others. Unfortunately, he did cause serious her to another motorist who will forever be afflicted by the injuries caused by Mr. Sieber. He didn’t stop there, however. In an attempt to avoid responsibility, Mr. Sieber thought nothing of driv-
ing after he had been involved in that crash and was subsequently involved in three other crashes before finally being taken into custody. Thankfully, those crashes did not result in serious injury to anyone else. “I would like to thank the Villa Park and Lombard Police Departments for their outstanding work in apprehending Mr. Sieber before he could do any further harm.” Sieber will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
