Village to host info meeting on ballot referendum

On Thursday, Oct. 27 from 6:307:15 p.m. at the Iowa Community Center, 338 N. Iowa Ave., officials of the Village of Villa Park will host an informational meeting designed to discuss the Nov. 8 referendum question of increasing sales tax to provide funding for public infrastructure designed to reduce flooding.

In order to fund projects such as storm and sanitary sewer separation, voters will be asked to increase the municipal sales tax rate by .5 percent via referendum on the Nov. 8, 2016 ballot.

Following is the question as it will appear on the Nov. 8, 2016 ballot: “Shall the Village of Villa Park increase the Village’s Non-Home Rule Municipal Retailers’ Occupation Tax and Non-Home Rule Municipal Service Occupation Tax (commonly referred to as a “municipal sales tax”) from one half of one percent (.5%) to one percent (1.0%) for expenditure on public infrastructure in accordance with and subject to the provisions of Sections 8-11-1.3 and 8-111.4 of the Illinois Municipal Code (65 ILCS 5/8-11-1.3 and 65 ILCS 5/8-11-1.4)?”

WB Guidance Department offers students career/vocational workshops As part of the Willowbrook Guidance Department’s goal to prepare students for post-high school success, counselors have increased their career programming for students. Events for the 2016-17 school year include: Career Exploration Workshops. In collaboration with Junior Achievement of Chicago, the Willowbrook Guidance Department offered sophomore students career exploration workshops on Oct. 19. Students participated in presentations on résumé writing, interview skills and career clusters/ pathways.

Career Unit in all speech classes. In collaboration with the English Department, counselors worked with students on Oct. 21 to introduce them to the career exploration process. This includes using Naviance to complete a career interest inventory and to research job outlook information and education

requirements. Students will later use that information to give a speech on a career of interest.

Schoolwide Career Day. Junior Achievement of Chicago will return in January 2017 to Willowbrook to provide students with interactive presentations about various careers. Teachers will have the opportunity to request a career professional whose expertise corresponds with the course being taught.

Those presentations are meant to assist students in connecting class instruction to real-world career possibilities.

College & Career Awareness Week. In collaboration with the Willowbrook Parent Organization (WPO), counselors are reaching out to local businesses, alumni and community members to provide informational booths or presentations for students during College & Career Awareness Week, which will be from March 20 to 24, 2017.

Outstanding students, teacher awards presented On Oct. 13, 10 Willowbrook students were recognized as Outstanding Students during a breakfast in their honor. During the event, Willowbrook Principal Dan Krause and Assistant Principal Doug Wildes welcomed the recipients and their families, as well as the staff members who nominated them. The students were then recognized and given a certificate in honor of their efforts.

Park Art Center welcomes new exhibit Didier Nolet presents Reflections on a Blending of Memories

Mirror of Humanity: Reflections on a Blending of Memories, paintings and pastels of Didier Nolet, will be on display at the Park Art Center, 9 East Park Blvd., from Nov. 11 through Jan. 7, 2017, with the opening artist’s reception on Friday, Nov. 11 from 6 – 8 p.m.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Didier Nolet, a renowned Chicago artist educated at the prestigious Ecole Nationale Superieure Des Beaux-Arts in Paris, has received many honors and accolades and has exhibited his work in oneman shows in many area institutions including the Merchandise Mart, Navy Pier in Chicago, the University Club of Chicago, and the Union League Club of Chicago. In addition, his work has been included in group shows all over the country, specifically at the New Material Art Fair in Miami Beach, Florida, the Hudson River Mu-

seum in Yonkers, New York, and The Armory in New York, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts in Pau, France, among many, many others.

Originally inspired by childhood memories, Nolet’s paintings became more a transcription of his inner personal feelings, state of mind, and moods.

The landscapes can go from serene to stormy, depending on what was happening in his life at the time.

“My landscapes are dreamlike and put together like stage sets,” he said. “They are images straight out of my mind; imaginary landscapes and seascapes that transcribe the different states of my life and personality.”

More recently, Nolet has started a new series of paintings using different techniques which reflect an evolution toward a looser and more energetic way of applying paint, well as using objects such as skulls, and creating and painting canvases in different shapes.

“We are so honored to have the opportunity to exhibit Didier Nolet’s work,” said Wendee Goles, exhibition coordinator. “His thoughts and dreams of landscapes are brilliantly executed and succeed in drawing the viewer intimately into his art. We get to enjoy a marvelous journey into his careful thought process. He applies a modern sensibility to the time honored landscape tradition.”

LifeSource presents District 88 with blood-drive proceeds

During the Oct. 17 District 88 Board of Education meeting, LifeSource presented District 88 with a check for $8,000.

The money is from blood drives hosted during the 2015-16 school year at Addison Trail and Willowbrook and will go toward scholarships for District 88 students. District 88 received the check for having about 688 people participate in the blood drives. According to LifeSource, each unit of blood collected supports three lives, which means about 1,700 lives have been supported thanks to the generosity of those donors.

LifeSource Addison Community Blood Drive Chairperson Judy Socha said this school year marks the 45th year Addison Trail will participate in blood drives. Oct. 11 • Jessica B. Garcia, 36, of Melrose Park, was arrested in the 600 block of W. North Ave. at 12:42 a.m. July 23 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance. The original complainant and arrest warrant were issued on Oct. 11.

• Criminal damage was reported in the 300 block of W. Adams. Police said that between 11 and 11:30 p.m., the front picture window of a residence was damaged possibly by a BB pellet by an unknown suspect.

• Octavio Marquez, 19, of Villa Park, was arrested at Twin Lakes Park at 8:39 p.m. and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug

The victim allowed access to their home and they were kept distracted and occupied while one or two of the suspects went through the home and stole cash and jewelry.

• Police said residents in the area of Charles St. and St. Charles Road were approached by two males with their faces covered at 12:15 a.m. One was carrying a bat and the other displayed a firearm. Both suspects fled the area on foot eastbound on St. Charles Road.

• A 46-year-old Villa Park man was arrested in the 100 block of S. Yale at 9:40 p.m. and charged with two counts of domestic battery.

• A 27-year-old Northlake man was arrested in the 300 block of N. Ardmore at 11:12 p.m. and charged with two counts of domestic battery.

Oct. 8-Oct. 9 Police said an unknown suspect stole a trailer that was parked in the parking lot of the Odeum between 5 p.m. Oct. 8 and 12:23 p.m. Oct. 9.

Oct. 8 Philip S. Sanchez and Jesse S. Sanchez, both 25 and from Lombard, were arrested near Kenilworth and Ardmore at 2:01 a.m.

Philip was charged DUI, improper lane usage and no insurance, and Jesse was charged with DUI and improper lane usage.

Prescription burns to benefit Forest Preserve habitats Specially trained crews to carry out burns In coming weeks, specially trained crews from the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County will be conducting prescription burns at select sites in the county’s preserves.

The district has used this deliberately set, controlled, natural-resource management tool for more

than 35 years to restore native prairies, wetlands and woodlands. Prescription burns generally take place in late fall after the season’s vegetation has died and in early spring before new vegetation emerges.

Because safety depends on the weather and other factors, the dis-

“Prescription burns help us keep our forest preserves healthy for native prairies, wetlands and woodlands,” said Forest Preserve District Commissioner Jeff Redick, District 2.

Prescription burns are not to be confused with the catastrophic uncontrolled wildfires that occur in the dense coniferous forest of the West,

where an overabundance of flammable materials often enables fires to burn at extremely high temperatures and spread uncontrollably from treetop to treetop.

“We appreciate the public’s cooperation and understanding during our prescription-burn process,” said Forest Preserve District of DuPage County President Joe Cantore.

Specially trained crews remain on the site throughout the process, which takes place only during daylight hours. If these factors are not present, the public should call 911 because they may be witnessing a wildfire.

“Prescription burns help control invasive, exotic plants so desirable native species with deep root systems can thrive,” said Erik Neidy, district director of natural resources.

“But fire also balances the relationship between prairie and wooded areas in our natural landscapes, returning a rich biodiversity of habitats.”

A more in-depth look at prescription burns is offered at “Introduction to Prescription Burns,” a free all-ages program that will be offered twice from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 12 and 20 at Churchill Woods in Glen Ellyn. Losing your groceries and other marital adventures

My husband and I recently adopted the exciting habit of team grocery shopping – together. We don’t go for many items at one time; I think that would be too much for our relationship to bear.

Our usual list might contain a handful of entries – milk, eggs, bread, pickles. That’s about our limit. We’re still in the rookie league. After decades of shopping solo (me) the prospect of a shopping buddy can be both exciting and terrifying – for both of us. We’re starting things slow.

And still, problems ensue.

A couple weeks ago we went to get ingredients for homemade sausage pizza. This included Italian sausage. Experienced foodies will understand it is difficult, impossible even, to make sausage pizza without the sausage.

Once at the store, we sashayed over to the meat department, found the sausage (spicy, not mild) and made our purchase. We also had a few other items as noted above. Then

weekly grocery store date. This time dinner plans included guacamole, which necessitated a trip to the produce department. We squeezed the avocadoes with competence and enthusiasm to find the perfect one – not too ripe, not too hard. Then we followed the regular routine. Pay for food. Exit store. Return home. This time we were careful to check the cart to confirm it was void of any food products before returning it to the cart corral.

We were in the middle of dinner prep when we discovered our deficiency. I was assembling the ingredients needed to stir together my world famous guacamole when I encountered the glitch. The avocado had gone AWOL. We emptied the fridge. We searched the car. We scanned the counters and the cupboards and came up with a catchy phrase to describe our situation: “Holy moly there’ll be no guacamole.” Sometimes it’s better to laugh at your shortcomings. It

Upon returning home, we unpacked our goods. There was pizza crust, tomato sauce and mozzarella, but no sausage. We looked in the backseat of the car, thinking it had fallen out of the bag, but the vehicle was sausage-less. As was our fridge, pantry, countertops and cupboards.

Somehow, we’d lost our sausage.

We’ll never know for sure, but we must have left it in the cart in the parking lot, making us victims – or perhaps perpetrators – of abandoned sausage syndrome. I’m sure some cart attendant got a good laugh out of that one.

takes your mind off the pitifulness (and guacamole-less-ness) of your predicament.

We questioned the usual suspects, but none of our sons would admit to eating an entire avocado. For once, I believed them.

We ate our meal with salsa, cheese, tomatoes and lettuce, but without a lick of guac. The avocado had, apparently, grown legs and walked, leaving us green with avocado envy.

Or not.

Because of the Italian sausage debacle, I knew we hadn’t left the avocado in the cart. We may be absentminded, but we learn from our mistakes. That cart was empty when we exited the parking lot. I’d swear to it (if I swore).

And then, damn, it hit me. The avocado had to be somewhere in the house. I set out to find that thickskinned, fat-laden berry. I was on a mission, a mission of failure.

It was actually my husband who did the eventual finding – and he

wasn’t even looking. He was replacing the roll of paper towels. The new roll, which we’d bought on that same, fateful, gone-missing avocado day, was still in the plastic grocery store bag, which contained not only the paper towels, but also our longlost avocado.

Luckily the fruit wasn’t overripe and was still in prime form for guacamole greatness. I stirred a bowlful together and it’s in the fridge right now. There’s only one problem. We are out of tortilla chips for dipping, so we’ll have to make a trip to the store to buy some.

I just hope we can manage to make it home without losing them somewhere along the way.

You can’t take it with you so relax a little now

I’ve been to a couple funerals lately so once again I’m reminded we do not live forever. Duh. Depending on your beliefs, we get one shot here on Earth or we come around again and again, but this one life will not be replicated. So make the most of it.

Have fun. And relax.

That’s what I need to remind myself of usually. I can be pretty laid back, but I also want things the way I want them when I want them. In my earlier days, (like perhaps yesterday), I could get impatient. I wished for a nose like Samantha on Bewitched so I could twinkle everything into place with a snap of my fingers and a nose twitch.

It’s time to mellow. The world still turns whether my house is perfect or my career is perfect or I have my ducks in a row. And we know that nothing is perfect, and the ducks in my new pond don’t line up and sound off. Ducks swim around and look pretty content. I am calmed just watching them.

We love our new place, the pondo (condo with pond is pondo). Although we are knee deep in several remodel/updating projects, we are not letting work rule us. The older

Case in point, new bathroom. The timeline for completion doubled and still wasn’t done. No worries. There is another bathroom to use so we’re good. The vanity top ended up being wonky on the side so we had to take it back. Several tries of several different kinds later, we ended up with one I like so much better. Good things come to those who relax.

I vacillate between wanting everything done immediately (and construction dust cleaned up once and for all) and knowing it will all get done and a delay is no crisis. We are hosting here even with nothing on the walls and twenty projects still undone. No one cares. Those who do

VP Historical Society welcomes ‘Mamie Eisenhower’ On Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m., the Villa Park Historical Society will hold its annual meeting at the Historical Museum, 220 S. Villa Avenue, followed by a program called “Mamie Eisenhower: Hostess in Chief,” portrayed by character actress and historian Ellie Carlson.

Mrs. Eisenhower was America’s beloved First Lady from 1953 - 1961. She was also an Army wife, mother and grandmother.

Learn from Mamie about living in Panama and the Philippines between the World Wars and about her loving relationship with Ike, which weathered horrible rumors and long separations. Admission is free, light refreshments and a sample of Mamie’s Million Dollar Fudge will be served.

Under the leadership of Campus Minister Michael Blanchette, Montini Catholic’s service ministry program teamed up with Giordano’s Pizza in Oak Brook to host “Montini Mission Nights” every Tuesday in October. Tuesday, Oct. 18 was the big night however, when there were raffles and give-aways from the Bulls and Blackhawks throughout the evening. Giordano’s donated 15% of every ticket to Montini, to benefit the high school’s mission trips.

Willowbrook hosts annual Collage Concert

On Oct. 13, the Willowbrook Music Department presented its annual Collage Concert.

The concert featured performances by Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Choir, Treble Choir, Beginning Mixed Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Concert Band, Percussion Methods Ensemble and Marching Warriors.

The Color Guard also performed with the Marching Warriors.

Willowbrook football team moves onto playoffs

Fenton boys and girls cross-country teams headed to sectionals

There was good news and bad news for the Willowbrook football team.

The bad news was the Warriors lost 21-9 at home to Leyden in a West Suburban Conference Gold Division game that determined the conference champion.

Leyden won the conference title outright with a 6-0 mark and finished 7-2 overall.

The good news for Willowbrook is the Warriors automatically qualified for the state playoffs by virtue of its 6-3 overall record.

The Warriors open postseason play in Class 7A either Friday or Saturday on the road in Quincy against Quincy Senior High School.

Willowbrook is the No. 23 seed in the 32-team Class 7A bracket. Quincy (8-1) is the No. 10 seed.

Addison Trail football The Addison Trail football team concluded its 2016 season after a 49-14 West Suburban Conference crossover loss to Glenbard West.

Addison Trail finished the season with a 4-5 overall record. The Blaz-

ers finished 3-3 in WSC Gold Division play.

Glenbard West led 14-0 after the first quarter and 35-0 at halftime and 49-0 after three quarters.

Willowbrook boys cross country The Willowbrook boys crosscountry team earned the sixth and final sectional-qualifying spot out of the Class 3A Hinsdale Central regional.

The Warriors finished with 159 points. Sophomore Matt Caron was 21st with a time of 16:16. Senior Casey King was 27th with a time of 16:33.

Senior Jacob Christiansen was 36th with a time of 17:07. Junior Alec Gruchalski was 37th with a time of 17:10.

Senior Evan Carter was 38th at 17:10. Junior Michael Isaacson was 41st in 17:24 and junior Ian Costello was 47th in 17:56.

Quincy is the No. 10 seed.

Outlook: Talk about opening up the playoffs on the road! With one single 32-team bracket not broken up by geography, Willowbrook will make a more than four-hour ride to west-central Illinois to face Quincy in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs. According to Google maps, Villa Park is almost 300 miles away from Quincy. Willowbrook lost in Week 9 to Leyden at home in a game that decided the conference championship and more importantly likely cost the team a first-round home playoff game given six of the seven 7-2 teams in the field are playing at home in the first round. The only exception is the 16-17 seed game that features a pair of 7-2 teams. Quincy won the Western Big 6 Conference title. However, the Blue Devils possess only two wins against teams with winning records (both 7-2) and have other wins against teams with records of 0-9, 0-9, 2-7, 2-7, 1-8 and 4-5. Their only loss was to 8-1 Edwardsville.

Up next: The winner of this game faces either No. 26 Chicago Simeon (5-4) or No. 7 Glenbrook North (8-1). A Willowbrook win will give the Warriors a second-round home playoff game regardless of opponent.

The Warriors opened play with a 25-22, 25-12 loss to Huntley. Payton Ceh had one kill, one assist and five digs. Olivia Pennebaker had four kills and three digs. Grace Chantos had two digs. Jessica Ragucci had one kill and one dig. Emily Ligocki had four kills, one ace, seven assists and one dig. Jamie Chiappetta had two kills and one assist. Marissa Marcello had two assists and three digs, while Milena Sogura had one kill and one block.

In a 25-18, 25-15 loss to Joliet Catholic, Ceh had one kill, two aces and eight digs. Pennebaker had two kills and two digs. Chantos had six digs. Ragucci had one dig. Ligocki had eight assists and four digs. Chiappetta had five kills, while Marcello had one kill, three assists and two digs. Sogura had three kills and one block.

Addison Trail boys soccer team wins regional title Blazers take home first postseason crown in 16 years

The Addison Trail boys soccer team recently picked up some pretty strong confirmation on just how good of a season they are having.

The Blazers scored a 3-0 win over Wheaton-Warrenville South to win a Class 3A regional title. It was the first time Addison Trail has won a boys soccer regional title since 2000.

“It was a long time coming,” said Addison Trail coach Ryan Dini. “We possessed the ball real well and had good ball control most of the game.

Anytime Wheaton-Warrenville South put us in a dangerous situation, our defense shut them down.”

Addison Trail held a 15-3 shotson-target advantage. “We had possession most of the time,” the coach

pointed out. “We were able to create a lot of scoring chances.”

Enrique Luna had two goals for Addison Trail. Martin Juarez had the other tally. Luna, Tom Kania and Jonathan Hernandez each had one assist.

Addison Trail was bolstered by the defensive play of Brian Ramos, Edmond Montano, Uriel Martinez and Melvin Mora. Junior Jacob Grygo earned the shutout in his second postseason start in a row.

In the regional semifinals, Addison Trail scored a 2-1 win over Glenbard West. Kania and Hernandez each had a goal. Montano and Kania had one assist each.

“We were losing 1-0 most of the game,” said Dini. “We tied it in the last 25 minutes.”

Fenton boys soccer team wins regional title Bison girls volleyball team preparing for playoffs

The Fenton boys soccer team scored a 1-0 win in penalty kicks against Marmion Academy to take home the Class 2A Fenton regional title in Bensenville.

Fenton and Marmion were tied 0-0 after two overtimes. The Bison won the game by virtue of winning the penalty-kick phase by a 4-1 count.

Earlier, Fenton advanced to the regional-championship game after a 2-1 win over St. Francis.

Fenton advanced to this week’s Class 2A St. Francis sectional in Wheaton. The Bison played Tuesday against the winner of the Burlington Central regional. If Fenton won that game it will play for the sectional title Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. Francis.

Fenton football The Fenton football team closed out its season with a 49-0 setback to IC Catholic Prep in Bensenville.

The Bison concluded the 2016 campaign with a 3-6 overall record.

The Bison finished Metro Suburban Conference Blue Division play with a 1-4 mark.

Fenton girls volleyball The Fenton girls volleyball team finished the regular season with a 12-22 record.

The Bison finished the regular season with a 25-21, 25-13 win over Elmwood Park in a MSC crossover series match. The night before, the Bison dropped a tough three-set match to Aurora Central Catholic by scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-21.

Fenton also recently lost two-set contests to Wheaton Academy and Glenbard South.

However, we already have turned our attention to our regional opener (earlier this week against Chicago Prosser at Prosser). Despite being the better seed, we know it will be a huge test. If we are fortunate to get by Prosser, Glenbard West will be waiting.”

Through the end of the regular season, Paulina Milanowski was leading the team in serving with 298 serves in out of 323 attempts to go with 58 service aces. She also was the team leader in kills with 153 and assists with 263 (now just shy of 1,000 assists for her career). Vicky Krzyszkowski was the team leader in blocks with 39 and Ashley Lira was leading in digs with 186.

“Needless to say, Paulina is our MVP,” said Kleidorfer. “She finished second in digs and third in blocks as our setter. She has had an amazing career. We are going to miss all our seniors, but have some young talent that will keep the program moving in the right direction.”

Addison Trail held a 30-2 shotson-target advantage. “We hit the crossbar twice and hit the post twice,” said Dini. “They scored on their first shot from 40 yards out. We had some bad luck. We dominated the whole game and had consistent pressure on them. We had so many chances and we finally put one on

the board. That helped us relax.”

Kania’s goal tied it and Hernandez scored the game-winner with five minutes to play.

The two wins pumped Addison Trail’s record to 21-1. The WWS win was the team’s 16th in a row.

“We got a good scare against Glenbard West,” said Dini. “That got

us back to practicing well and working on the little things. The guys are extremely focused. They want to make a long run in the playoffs.”

Addison Trail played in a sectional semifinal game Tuesday at Glenbard East. If the Blazers won that game they will play for the sectional title Friday at 5 p.m. at Glenbard East.

The Addison Trail girls volleyball team reached an important victory benchmark recently.

The Blazers sported a 20-10 overall record through late last week, achieving 20 wins for a second year in a row (Addison Trail was 22-14 last year).

Addison Trail also took second in the West Suburban Conference Gold Division with a 5-1 mark.

“We’ve done a great job responding to adversity throughout the season,” said Addison Trail coach Dan Styler. “We lost to Downers Grove South and that was a big match.

Glenbard West team that is the No. 1 seed in the sectional. We have been able to respond when things aren’t going our away.”

Styler said a litany of things came together in the Glenbard West win.

“We did a fantastic job playing smart volleyball,” he said. “We controlled the ball well. All facets seemed to be clicking. We wore them down with our ball control. We played an aggressive game, especially near the end to close it out.”

Styler commended the recent performances of seniors Sarah Petrbok, Keara Schmitt and Anastasia Labadessa.

“Those three seniors continue to play well,” he said. “They are threeyear starters who have been fantastic and very consistent for us.”

The Blazers also have benefitted from the play of junior middles Nicci Scorza and Giovanna Scarabaggio. “Both have been doing a great job,” said Styler. “They are not the tallest middles out there, but they play a very fast tempo and they are

aggressive. They have outworked a lot of middles on the opposite side of the net this year.”

Styler said this year’s success has additional context to it. “We’ve had a great run the past two years,” he said. “What’s even more impressive is we toughened up the schedule this season. During the grind of this season we have played some competitive teams and that’s helped us to get better.”

Team chemistry, he added, has been off the charts as well. “The team chemistry with this group truly has been a bright spot,” he said.

“They are great kids. We have eight seniors who we just recognized on senior night. They have bonded so well on and off the court. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you don’t have personalities that mesh together, you are fighting an uphill battle.”

Addison Trail opened Class 4A regional play earlier this week against Leyden. The Blazers are the No. 5 seed in the sectional.

Blanchette and a group of nine students recently returned from the LaJoya Garbage Dump in Nicaragua where they assisted families and helped build homes for those currently living in shanties.

“In the past students have paid their own way on these service trips,” he said. “We wanted to find a way to earn money to lower the cost for our families wanting to participate in these unique projects.”

The core mission of Montini’s Mission Trips is to build and nurture sustainable relationships with people around the globe while exchanging cultural experiences and sharing resources.

“We are grateful to Giordano’s and all of our supporters for helping us provide funds to help more and more students experience the gift of helping others,” Blanchette added.

“Everyone in their own little way can make a huge difference in someone’s life . . . in the world. In return, their own lives are changed forever.”

As much I like spotless and pretty and neat and orderly and put together, I like time with my husband more.

We can work ourselves to exhaustion and we can snuggle on the couch, watch a movie and make out. (I like that part the best.)

I used to say that I loved moving and that may be so, but right here right now, I’m done. We will make this love nest our own brand of beautiful and keep home base here. I can travel to wherever whenever and not have to move again. If I get itchy in a few years, I can redecorate.

Obviously, I am getting older.

With that often comes a settling down. I used to think that was a bad thing. My younger son has called me a hippie gypsy (a compliment). I can wander the world with my prince, but not have to pack more than a bag.

We spent a month in France with just a small carry-on each. It was perfect.

At these funerals I’ve been to, there is no luggage.

They always say you can’t take it with you. What do we take? What do we leave behind? The joy. Yes, I like my pretties and always will. Maybe I could be buried with a full set of china and blingy wine glasses, but nah. I’ll use them now, have a little fun. And relax.
