The Stockton fine arts department received a check Thursday from Sam Stoddard of Woodbine Bend Golf Course and Bridget Stocks of Scout magazine. The monies were raised through the annual Play It Forward golf tournament which set a goal of raising funds for the Jo Daviess County Schools’ Arts and Music Programs.

STOCKTON — It was nearly 100 degrees in the shade Tuesday and Thursday when Sam Stoddard of Woodbine Bend Golf Course and Bridget Stocks of Scout magazine donned their virtual Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus suits and visited seven schools to make

Christmas come early. “On August 8 Scout Magazine and Woodbine Bend held their second annual Play it Forward golf tournament, this year raising funds for Jo Daviess County school arts programs,” said Stoddard. He said they raised a little over fifteen thousand dollars to be divided between the six school districts and the CTE

Academy in the county. “We are not stipulating any specific uses for the monies,” Stoddard said. “It is completely up to their discretion just as long as it is used for music and art programs.” He said the partnership is already looking to the future. “The third annual Play it Forward is scheduled for August 6, 2016 and we’re still looking

for a charity or project that will make use of the funds.” Last year’s funding went to the Riverview Center, a nonprofit agency committed to providing free, confidential, compassionate, client-centered care for individuals affected by sexual and domestic violence in the tri-state area. “And, next year is a giant question mark,” Stoddard said.

“We’re trying to figure out something that will benefit the community, bring everybody together and just make things better.” Stockton is one of the seven districts receiving funds from Play it Forward. Stockton art instructor Dorothy Ramey said while the funds
