Warriors stung by Hornets in NUIC showdown REPORTER

The Warren Lady Warriors are looking to find the consistency they need to make a late season push for better position when the post-season begins. On Thursday, Sept. 21, they let one slip away as they fell to the Scales Mound Lady Hornets in straight games. The Warriors were getting some serves in, but the Hornets were finding ways to give them back with some emphasis. Through the early moments of the NUIC match, it appeared Scales Mound was going to have things go their way. As game one worked through it became evident they would capture the first match of the night. The final score of 25-19 gave them the leg up on the second showdown of the evening. Anna Riedl did what she could at the net for Warren. She had five kills, three digs and a block. Her teammates were giving her opportunities to drive more points home, but Scales Mound’s defense found the ability to stop the assault. The Hornets worked through game two still looking at a possible sweep. Warren tried their comeback, but couldn’t penetrate the staunch front line and saw the Warriors begin to pull away. Warren won game two 2517 and claimed the night two games to nothing. Brynn Bohnsack added two kills to the Warren stat-line for the night. Earlier in the week, Warren found a lot more success against their fellow Lady Warriors from out west. East Dubuque fell in two games. In game one it was a dominating effort by the visiting Warriors as they pushed their way to a 25-15 opening game win. East Dubuque tried to respond in game two and nearly got it

done. However, the Lady Warriors defense again stepped up and prevented the comeback attempt. Warren held on for the 25-20 win in game two to claim the night. The up-and-down play of this year’s Lady Warriors does go back many weeks. Since a Thursday, Sept. 21 showdown with River Ridge, Warren has alternate winning and losing nights. They fell to River Ridge on the road two games to none. Warren received an invitation to play in the Benton, WI Invitational last weekend and picked up mixed results. They fell to Hazel Green-Southwestern in two games, 25-20 and 2513. Later in the day they knocked off Argyle in two games 25-15 and 2516. The day-play closed with a twogames to none loss to host Benton by identical 25-17 marks.
