Eagle Nature Foundation has new shrubs available The Eagle Nature Foundation has

received a new load of fall plants for people to take home to beautify their own yards. There presently are close to 150 different varieties of plants to look at. Many of them are blooming, so people can see what they would look like in their own yards. These plants are on display in the yard next to the Eagle Nature Foundation office, located at 300 East Hickory Street, (Stagecoach Trail), in Apple River. New plants we have received on this load, which we have never had before are: River Birch; Picea, Bob’s Blue; Cinderella Milkweed; Dwarf New England Aster; Calamintha Nepta; Calycanthus “Summer Dream”; Caryopteris “Dark Knight”; Cornus Racimosa “Irish Setter”; Smoke Bush; Diervilla “Cool Splash”; White Coneflower; Forsythia “Golden Peep”; Hosta “Double Up”; Hosta “Fire Island”; Hydrangea “Little Lime”; Lespedeza “Samidare”; Magnolia “Encore”; Picea “Mac’s Gold”; Double Knockout Roses; Sedum “Pillow Talk”; Bloomerang Lilac; and Weigela “Flamingo Pink”. There are only two to six plants of each variety available, so they are on a first come—first served basis. The suggested prices are marked by each plant. For any plants which you take, please place at least this amount of money for each plant in the money box on the porch. The plants are available during daylight hours. We hope that everyone will be honest. If not, we may have a picture of you. The facility will be under camera surveillance. If you come during office hours and like bald eagles, please stop in and ask to see our eagle gift shop on the second floor. For any questions, please call 815-594-2306. Blackhawks bounce back in NUIC battle By Chris Johnson REPORTER

Stockton Blackhawk’s fans relaxed a little after the final siren sounded on Friday night, Sept. 8. The team had done what it needed to do and held back a strong squad from Milledgeville 22-20, to stay in position to compete for some possible, significant, season-hardware. The win was essential for Stockton to consider making a run at the NUIC-Upstate Title in all reality. Stockton keeps its name in championship-discussion circles, courtesy of the two-point, week three victory over the Missiles. They are 2-1 on the year and 2-0 in the Upstate. The Blackhawks only loss this season came to a very strong squad from LaSalle County. 2016 Class 1A State Semi-Finalist Ottawa Marquette won 35-16 in week two. This Friday night the Blackhawks get to cross the NUIC-border as they

face the West Carroll Thunder in Stockton for the week four game. In week five the winless River Ridge Wildcats pay a visit to the Rt. 20 strip and in week six, the Blackhawks could be looking at getting closer to firmly-securing their post-season position, as they travel to Ashton-Franklin Center for a Friday night meeting. October opens at home for Stockton with Conference-deciding meetings with Polo in week seven on Friday, Oct. 6 and Freeport Aquin in the Oct. 13, week eight game. Orangeville will play host in week nine. A three-game win streak to close the regular season could assure the Blackhawks nail down the Upstate

Title. Milledgeville fell to 2-1 on the year with the two-point loss. They are 1-1 in the NUIC-Upstate, but still have a chance to keep their “hat in the ring” for a shot at a late-season run at a Conference Title. The post-season is still a good possibility for them. They should be able to find enough wins to get in. They might need six to make it this year though. Orangeville and Freeport Aquin appear to be the most challenging teams remaining on the Missiles’ schedule. There are many teams still very much alive in their own season-searches from the NUIC. There are great teams that have already

stepped to the front and are working off undefeated conference marks. Stockton is one of them. Freeport Aquin is zipping along Polo is strong and Orangeville is making a lot of noise. Others can’t seem to find the exact footing they need right now, but are expected to make their md-season pushes soon. The difficulties of collecting wins in the Upstate seem to dim in comparison to how other programs in the other half of the NUIC have to deal with life as they know it. A lot of great teams play in northern Illinois. A lot of recent Class 1A State Champions play in the neighboring Northwest.
