A lot of good things happened for the baseball players at Warren and Stockton High Schools this season. The chance to join forces to compete meant a lot of awards were earned as a result. When the IHSA Class 2A State Baseball Playoffs began a lot of eyes were placed on the Warhawks. Many people knew they had a lot of talent in place and that meant a good shot at amazing post-season rewards. As game play commenced on Monday, May 15, the Warhawks sat back and watched. They received the top overall seed in the lower branch of the Byron Class 2A Sectional Complex and that meant they were going to be a force to deal with in the playoffs. Because of their position entering the post-season, as NUIC-West Champion and number-one seed in the 2A field, the Warhawks didn’t play until Wednesday, May 17. When they did take the field, Oregon discovered they wouldn’t be able to stand long with them. They lost 15-0 as Warren-Stockton moved on to the Pecatonica Class 2A Regional Championship. Because of unplayable conditions in Pecatonica on Saturday, May 20, the Regional Final’s start time was changed to Monday, May 22. The co-op of Pecatonica and Durand won in their half of the Regional Bracket and advanced to the Monday Final. A lot of offense would be scored as the two teams combined for the same amount the Warhawks had featured in their playoff-opener, 15.

Stockton inches closer to construction of a Community Center By Tony Carton EDITOR
Members of the Village of Stockton Zoning Board of Appeals met Thursday evening in City Hall to hear a request for a Special Use Variance that will allow construction of a Community Center behind Stockton High School past the end of Maple Street. Stockton Park District Secretary Susan Schamberger said a group of area residents have attended park district meetings four nearly four years asking for a Community Center. “This group of residents has expressed a need for a community center citing area towns including Lena, Warren and Apple River as having a
facility and they asked us to look into the possibility,” said Schamberger. “We have, over the years looked at every area on the edge of town and we even had a group of between 15 and 20 people that became a sub-committee and went out and looked at various sites we recommended.” She said the district board had already, over the years visited and narrowed down the possibilities and they recommended three or four of
those sites to the Community Center Sub-Committee for further study. “Those committee members went out and checked and re-checked and came back with the same conclusion,” said Schamberger. She said as a search for a proper site wound down, the district did considerable research into what was needed, what was available, and what funding is on hand for the project. “Having tonight received a posi-

tive recommendation from the zoning board we are ready to begin the next phase,” Schamberger said. “We have a young man from the area that has some thoughts on plans for a structure and we feel we can save our taxpayers considerable money if we can receive a go ahead from the village board and use his drawings to begin moving forward.”
