The Warhawks’ Ian Broshous steals second base during the June 7 regional championship victory against Orangeville. The Warhawks claimed the regional title before losing to Sterling Newman on June 9 in the sectionals.
The Warren-Stockton Warhawks varsity baseball squad had a tremendous regular season, finishing the year with a 19-1 record and becoming NUIC-West co-champions as they split the conference title with East Dubuque. The lone defeat of the season came on May 20, in a 5-3 loss to East Dubuque. Following that game, the Warhawks went on a seven-game winning streak to close out the regular season. Their outstanding record had the Warhawks set up to face the winners of the Galena versus River Ridge-Scales Mound game in the opening round of regionals. The Galena Pirates came out on top, giving them a chance to compete with the Warhawks, who were heavy favorites.
Warren-Stockton showcased their talent and made quick work of the Pirates, beating them 10-0 in just five innings. The Warhawks were impressive on both sides of the game as Austin Chumbler, Andrew Mensendike and Brady Broshous combined for the shutout pitching performance. The Warhawks offense exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning, helping them to get the win by 10-run rule and propelling them into the regional championship against Orangeville on June 7. The Warhawks got off to an early lead when Matthew Riedl hit a two-run home run

to right field. Those two runs wound up being crucial in the decision of this game. Despite the early offensive action, the excitement seemed to die down for a few innings. Warren-Stockton’s 2-0 lead would hold until the bottom of the fifth inning, when the Warhawks tallied an important insurance run. Ian Broshous got the inning started with a single to right field. Later in the inning, with two outs, Riedl took a walk to put a runner in scoring position. The next at bat, Josh Reynolds came through with a single to bring in Ian Broshous to score. After going scoreless
through the first five innings, the Broncos managed to crack the scoreboard in the top of the sixth. Zach Baker took a walk to get the momentum started. Thanks to a pair of wild pitches, Baker made his way to third base, giving the Broncos a scoring opportunity. Jack Doyle singled to center, bringing in Baker to score Orangeville’s first run. Mensendike was brought in to pitch with hopes of calming the storm. He did just that, forcing two straight pop ups and tempering the Broncos’ momentum.

Softball season ends on a high note for Warren-Stockton girls By Trenten Scheidegger CORRESPONDENT
The Warren-Stockton Warhawks varsity softball program may have fallen to the Pearl City Wolves in Regionals, but thanks to weather postponements and rescheduling, they had the opportunity to end their season on a high note. On June 7, the Warhawks faced off with the Scales Mound-River Ridge Wildcats with an opportunity to finish with the best league record in the Northwest Upstate Illini Conference-West. Despite having a 7-9 overall record,
the Warhawks managed to beat the Wildcats by a score of 12-1, giving them a 6-2 record in conference play and a conference title. Kaylee Luke led the way offensively, going 2-for3 with two RBIs and one run scored. Elaina Martin was also impressive, going 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks, two RBIs and two runs scored. Kiersten Winters was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Elise Adleman was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk, as the Warhawks had production from the entire lineup in
the big win. Lauren Kehl had an exceptional pitching performance, throwing a complete game with eight strikeouts, five hits and zero earned runs. Performing well on both sides, the Warhawks were able to earn their sixth conference win, and the title of NUICWest Conference champs. The Warhawks will hope to return as a strong team next season, but that will be a challenge as they graduate six seniors in Adleman, Winters, Emilie Slichenmyer, Luke, Megan Hynek and Claire Riedl.
