River Ridge/Scales Mound Wildcats top Galena in double header By Trenten Scheidegger Last Thursday the River RidgeScales Mound Wildcats baseball team faced off with Galena in what would be a double header. The Wildcats came into the game at 15-7 overall as they looked to continue to improve their exceptional record. The Wildcats found themselves trailing 1-0 after two innings but they were able to take their first lead in the third. Thanks to a pair of singles from Wurster and Patterson, River Ridge-Scales Mound was able to bring in two runs as they went up 2-1. The Wildcats would hold the lead for the rest of the game. River Ridge-Scales Mound led 6-1 heading into the final inning, but their offense was not ready to give
up yet. Thanks to a trio of singles from Shetler, Wurster, and Reese, the Wildcats were able to go up 12-1 before this one ended. In the eleven-run victory in game one, the Wildcats were led by Wurster and Patterson offensively, as they each went two for four with two rbi’s a piece. Patterson was tremendous from the mound as well, as he pitched seven innings while allowing just four hits and striking out eight on his way to the win. Things in game two were oddly similar to game one, only this time River Ridge-Scales Mound would play as the home team. Galena jumped out to the early lead, once again, with three runs in the top of the first inning. The Wildcats would get one back in the bottom
of the first thanks to a double from J Underwood. In the second inning the Wildcats would grab the lead with a three-spot due to three straight singles from Landwer, Shetler, and Wurster. Once again, the Wildcats would hold onto their early lead throughout the remainder of the game. Just like game one, their best inning came in the Wildcats final at bat. Patterson got it all started, as after a walk and an error began the inning, he singled to drive in a run to push the lead to 8-4. Just after the single, Ki-
ley was able to score on a passed ball and Underwood eventually singled to bring Patterson in to go up 10-4 as they were quickly putting things out of reach, once again. Kloss and Reese would end the offensive outburst, as despite grounding out, they were able to both drive in runs and push the lead to 12-4. The score would remain that way as the Wildcats got their second victory of the day over Galena. The Wildcats were led by a plethora of players offensively, as Patter-
son went two for four with two rbi’s while scoring two runs, Underwood went two for four with three rbi’s, Reese went two for four with two rbi’s, Alex Nesbit went three for four with an rbi, and Landwer went one for two with an rbi and a run scored. Micah Knauer started on the mound and pitched another great game, going just over six innings and allowing just three earned runs while striking out five as he got the win. Currently, the Wildcats sit at 17-8 on the year.
