The basketball season officially began in November for Warren basketball players, even though they signed up well before they took to the courts in Thanksgiving Classics. That would put the basketball schedule closer to July for a lot of kids who got the chance to play for the last time this season. This past Monday the post-season began. The Warren Warriors tipped-off in East Dubuque. Veteran players on this year’s team, along with many underclassmen had a few days to think about the significance of the playoffs and what it stands for in the overall picture of their “playing days.” For some players on this year’s team, it would be the last time they would suit up with classmates they’d joined on the court since elementary school. When the season starts Thanksgiving week there is little thought being paid towards how things close in in late February. The final standings often indicate where a team starts the playoffs and how difficult their path will be as a result. The Warriors carried an eightwin season into game play in East Dubuque on Monday. When they tipped off the Class 1A Regional

the were considered the underdog. For some teams that can often provide a little extra “inspiration” to get one more win. In the 2018 IHSA State Playoff opener the Warriors defeated the Pirates by six, 43-37. It was the second time they’d sunk the Pirates in a little over a week. On Feb. 15 Warren knocked off Galena 51-26. The post-season win helped close down memory-collection on an extremely positive note for many students. In round two of the post-season journey, the Warriors ran into East Dubuque, who has once again pushed the 30-win plateau this season. The host Warriors won the Wednesday match 50-24. There were some weather-related delays involved in getting things going along the banks of the Mississippi River, according to the IHSA website. The situation was resolved as the game played through. Warren turns its attention to upcoming regular season play and with the NUIC scheduling in place, common opponents will be faced in away and home series throughout the early weeks. The IHSA Class 1A and 2A State Basketball Champions are being crowned this weekend. Teams from the larger school 3A and 4A divisions will battle for titles next week.

Warren Public Library offers Summer Reading Program As the calendar turns to March, our thoughts at the library turn to warmer weather and preparing for our Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is “Reading Takes You Everywhere,” and it’s sure to be a lot of fun with so many great prizes for our participants. We’re especially thankful to Diane Ege and the Community Bank for our first Summer Reading donation of 2018. Their generous monetary

donation and supply of flashlight pens and bags for the kids enrolled in our program will certainly come in handy. This year’s program is tentatively scheduled to run from Saturday, June 9, and will wrap up on Saturday, July 28. Registration will begin May 1, and close on May 31. More details will follow as we get closer to our starting date. We can’t wait to see where reading takes us this summer.

Warren Family Ties Preschool has been learning about fairy tales and castles, so they finished their unit by having a Preschool Ball. Students dressed up as princes and princesses, decorated the classroom like a castle, made crowns, went on a royal parade, made ice castles out of real ice, made roses out of egg cartons, made Chinese fans, and danced the Tango and a Chinese fan dance. They learned fancy dining etiquette while eating rice and noodles. A big Thank You to Imperial Palace in Freeport, IL for donating chopsticks and place mats so that Preschool could truly have a royal Chinese experience.
