County offers COVID-19 call center Officials at the Jo Daviess County Health Department and Jo Daviess County Emergency Management last week established a COVID-19 call center. Volunteers staff the call center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday to answer questions and help those 65 or older who lack internet access or assistance navigate the COVID-19 vaccine registration website. The call center can be reached at 815-591-2673. A link to vaccine registration is located on the home page of the Jo Daviess County website at jodaviess. org. “Contacting the call center does not guarantee you an appointment at the next clinic, but you can be placed on a waiting list if you are over age 65 and live or work in Jo Daviess County,” according to a post on the website. “We will keep your information and contact you when it is your turn for an

The Scales Mound boys basketball squad is coming off an impressive season in which the team finished 24-9 and placed second in the Northwest Upstate Illini-West Conference, with a record of 9-3 in league play. Led by head coach Erik Kudronowicz, in his 15th season with the team, the Hornets were more than ready to get back into the sports world by doing what they do best — winning on the basketball court. The Hornets got a taste of everything in their first two games of the season. Following a blowout victory in their season debut over West Carroll, Scales Mound found themselves on the other end of the stick when they suffered a 73-72 double overtime loss to East Dubuque. Not to worry, Kudronowicz’s Hornets were quickly back on the winning side of things. On Feb. 13, Scales Mound was back in blowout fashion as they topped the Polo Marcos 58-25. Ben Werner led the team in scoring with 13 points on the night. Werner, a junior center, is averaging just over 12 points-per-game this season. He serves as a nice offensive complement to fellow junior

portedly struggle to find people to fill their jobs,” said Brian Greene, director of CareerTEC, a consortium of six high school districts in northwest Illinois that provides career and technical education programs to students. To promote the importance and variety of manufacturing jobs, as well as the education necessary for those positions, CareerTEC works with area businesses and Highland Community College to organize Manufacturing Day. The annual event is sponsored through grants and donations from local manufacturers. Manufacturing Day, which began in October 2015, had to undergo

some changes this year because of COVID-19, Greene said. In the past local manufacturers would take participating students on tours of their facilities, then bring them back to Highland, where students could meet with manufacturing reps, hear a guest speaker, learn more about programs and even grab some pizza and door prizes. The event was postponed last year until February 2021, but company tours and field trips are still restricted. Instead, seven area manufacturers produced short videos about their
