Better efficiency increases productivity By Colleen Fox
STOCKTON SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT
There are a number of things that have been taken into consideration by the Stockton School Board in its decision to go to referendum on April 2. The safety and security of students and staff was the top priority of the Community Task Force, comprised of several members of
the community that advised the School Board. They also considered efficiency of moving to one campus, cost savings, and educational benefits for the students of Stockton School District. Improving efficiency is always a goal of any industry, company, business, or school district. It is often tough to do without big changes, or
April 2 ballot confusion addressed
overhauls to the system. By moving to one campus, Stockton would improve the efficiency of the school district in multiple ways; student drop off and pick up would be safer, transportation department would eliminate multiple stops, parents would have one drop-off and pickup for all of their children, communication between buildings and staff would improve, teachers would have more resources under one roof that could be shared, administration would be able to share in responsibilities across the building, and staff development and communication between different grade levels
would be easier. Efficiency would improve in the district as a whole. Better efficiency increases productivity leading to an overall better education for the students of Stockton. There would be areas of savings in operational costs as well. Most of the savings would be resources and materials. When there is only one campus to outfit instead of three different buildings, there is no need to duplicate certain instructional materials, cleaning supplies, or kitchen supplies. Several components of running the district would be more efficient; student safety, heating and cooling, IT infrastructure, lighting,
phones, and air control. The district would be able to reduce resources such as copy machines, printers, and office supplies. There would be less wear and tear on vehicles going back and forth between buildings. The district would also look at staffing at all levels to see if there are areas of cost savings that would be available with being on one campus. Moving to one campus would impact the educational environment for the students of Stockton in a number of ways. Make sure you are informed about the decision that needs to be made on April 2.and let your voice be heard by voting.

As a concerned parent of students in the Stockton School District I think it is necessary to address some confusion related to the ballot for the upcoming election on April 2. First, I want to bring attention to the area of ballot where we are voting for Stockton School Board Members. According to the directions we are allowed to vote for a maximum of three school board members. That being said, in the first group of the three names listed, you are only allowed to vote for a maximum of one person. In the second group of three names listed, you are only allowed to vote for a maximum of two people. If you vote incorrectly by voting for too many total or voting for too many in one section than that portion of your ballot will be thrown out. Second, I would like to point out that the wording for the 9.8 million dollar option and the 12.4 million dollar option both refer to building an elementary school building while the 18 million dollar option just states that a school building will be built. Are we certain that if we vote for the 18 million dollar option that we will, in fact, be building a new elementary school building? It would be nice to have that clarified before vote. Third, you will need to vote yes or no to each and every option. Each option is going to be evaluated separately as to whether or not it passes. If you do not want the referendum to pass at all there must be a majority vote of no for every option. If even one option has the majority yes votes, the referendum will pass at that level of funding. We will be paying off this bond for at least 20 years. When taxes go up due to a referendum they generally do not go back down. This is primarily because the school board will have the option to refinance or get a new bond before the referendum rolls off our taxes. Vote NO on ALL THREE ballot questions on April 2. It’s the best option at this time for our community. Finally, you need to be aware that at least one of the referendum options is on the back side of the ballot. I hope this helps to clarify any uncertainty that you may have regarding the ballot. If you still have questions about the ballot, please ask an election official at your polling station prior to voting and please read and complete your ballot completely.
