formed to provide citizens with an opportunity to lend their support to more effective law enforcement and to help local law enforcement officers protect the lives and property of citizens. “As the need for building stronger public-private law enforcement partnerships in the country continues to escalate, programs such as this continue to grow in importance,” said Sheriff Turner. “I encourage everyone receiving a membership appeal to consider joining forces with us by becoming an Associate Member. It is a valuable investment in the future.”

Stockton Chamber to host Business after Hours By John Day

CORRESPONDENT

The business world has changed quite a bit in the last 20 years. Making contacts with like-minded people and businesses is now called networking and the term social media is often used by those involved in commerce. A presence on Facebook and Linkedin is a requirement for businesses if they want to prosper in the new marketplace. The Stockton Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois Bank and Trust Company will be holding an event which they call, Business After Hours. The term may sound somewhat out of date, but it is as relevant today as it ever has been. What is it and how does it work? Caitlynn Greve, Assistant Marketing Manager of the Stockton Chamber of Commerce said, “This will be an opportunity for local businesspeople to get together in a relaxed atmosphere and simply talk business. Find out what may be going on in the

overall business climate in our area, statewide or nationally. The event will be at the Illinois Bank and Trust-Stockton Banking Center on Route 20 March 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Peggy Tully, Senior Personal Banker at this facility said, “This is an easy, unstructured way for people who share professional interests and concerns to get together and find out what is going on in our area. We’ll be providing refreshments and snacks. This will be a rather casual affair and open to the public “Bank employees will be on hand to speak with our guests about our services and answer any questions they may have about how we can help. Joe Mattingley, our President of Marketing will be on hand to chat

with attendees about marketing in general, their specific needs, developing goals and how they can develop a marketing strategy. “We’re hoping that many of these guests will be able get to know one another and find some common ground. They may learn that although they are in different businesses, they all have difficulties, be it finances, marketing or anything else, they share the same problems and concerns. Often, despite their differences, the solutions to problem solving can be the same. We really think that this is a great networking opportunity.” The Illinois Bank and Trust Company will be offering opportunities to attend future Business After

Hours gatherings in Elizabeth and Galena over the next several weeks. Greve also spoke about what else will be going on in the Stockton area over the next several months. Greve said, “On June 20, Massbach Ridge Winery will be sponsoring a 5k run or walk, the Stockton 5k/10k run will be July 4th and Fall Into Stockton is scheduled for Aug. 15. There will also be a golf outing on Sept. 20 at Woodbine Bend.” For questions and additional information, the Stockton Chamber of Commerce can be contacted through their Facebook page. The Illinois Bank and Trust, Stockton Banking Center is located at 11655 U.S. Route 20, Phone number 815-9472000.

Responding to the increasing number of people wanting to assist law enforcement officials and build a stronger partnership in the fight against crime, Sheriff Kevin W. Turner today announced that Jo Daviess County citizens are being invited to become Associate Members of the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association. Membership appeals go out in the mail shortly. Individuals choosing to join the voluntary program can do so for as little as $20, while business memberships begin at $50. The funding provides critically important technical resources, training, and legislative support on key criminal justice issues. Contributions are tax-deductible, and unlike other organizations in our state, the Membership Program does not solicit membership by telephone. “With government funding becoming increasingly difficult to secure, the membership drive has taken on greater importance that ever before,” said Kevin W. Turner. “The funding is vital to helping us carry out our mission of making our communities safer places to live, work and play.” The Program is committed to its “No Telemarketing” policy and only sends invitations to citizens to become members by mail. Individuals that do not receive a membership appeal and would like more information can visit online at www.ilsheriff.org or may call or write to: Illinois Sheriffs’ Association; 401 East Washington Suite 1000; Springfield Illinois 62701 Phone: 217-7532372. Residents can also become members of the program by contacting the Sheriff’s Office. The membership program was
