Stockton girls roll in final practice sessions REPORTER
The Stockton Lady Blackhawks hope to find the type of success that has seen them battle for conference honors over the past many years. There were a few down years with Head Coach Dennis Young leading up to the 20172018 season, but for the most part it’s been a positive showing. Just over the past decade, the Lady Blackhawks have wrapped up their regular seasons with 20-plus win totals on numerous occasions. They were Regional Champions in consecutive seasons from 2008 through 2010. Two down seasons and two more 20-win seasons waited through last year’s run. There is a lot of hope that a rebound effect may come to this year’s basketball squad. Their volleyball team has already achieved historic status. They are the only team to have beaten the Durand Lady Bulldogs this year. Durand is playing in the Class 1A State Volleyball Finals this weekend carrying a 34-1-1 record. A big win like that can sometimes provide a boost to a program. That can help a team focus on this year’s goals, with a little more enthusiasm. Many of the players on this year’s volleyball squad are also members on this year’s Blackhawks girls’ basketball team. Katie Wright was an outside hitter on the volleyball squad. She’ll play form
the point guard and off-shooting guard positions this year. Kali Haas was libero. She will be a shooting guard. Aspyn Stewart will play from the point. She was an important outside hitter and captain for the volleyball team. A big problem for NUIC foes will be Emily Offenheiser. She will be a force at center and has the ability to play the point, according to her pre-season ledger. She was mid-hitter on the volleyball team and a lot of the offense ran right through her 6 foot 2 inch frame. Stockton is going to have its problems. There will be many hurdles along the way and a lot of the trouble might come from Stockton’s nearest conference neighbors. The biggest issue might be how strong Galena is going to be again. The Lady Pirates are a four-time defending Regional Champions. They have won 96 games over the past four years and were 29-2 last season. They have worked through Sectional each of the last two seasons. East Dubuque might be an issue. They were 22-4 with Head Coach Jared Deutsch last season. They are favored to compete for the West Title. Other intriguing rivals don’t appear to have too many answers attached to them. Teams such as Lena-Winslow, Eastland and River Ridge/Scales

Stockton Middle School 7th and 8th grade students are given a number of points that they need to earn each quarter by reading books that interest them and then taking quizzes on the books. The goal is to encourage students’ love of books while building their reading skills and background knowledge. Students may chose either fiction or nonfiction books in any subject area that interest them. These students went ‘above and beyond’ by doubling their goal. Students that double their goal are recognized and treated to a special reward. In addition, these students were given a ‘Golden Ticket’ for a drawing to be held after 1st semester for a chance to throw a pie at Mr. Fox, principal of Stockton Middle School. All students that meet their goal will also have an opportunity at a chance to throw a pie at their favorite teacher. Seventh grade participants (above) are Lauren Kehl, Ryley Schultz, Katie Crome, Braelyn Fahrney, Nathan Coffey. Eighth grade (below) participants are Front Row: Ryder Robledo, Raeann Roberts, Maria Bender, Back Row: Connor Vincent, Wyatt Raab, Joseph Brudi, Morgan McPeek.
