Warren Girls fall to LeWin On Jan. 30, the Lady Warriors traveled over to Lena-Winslow high school for one of their final games of the season. The Warriors came in looking to snag their first conference victory of the season, as they sat at 0-10 in league play. It would be a tough matchup as they were on LeWin’s home court, and they lost their last matchup by a score of 55-24. The Panthers came in sitting at .500 with a 12-12 overall record. Warren found themselves down big early on as they managed to score just six points in the first quarter The six points came from a trio of baskets from Sydni Sigafus, Jessica Griffin, and Elizabeth Brinkmeier. The Panthers managed to get their offense going early on as they put up 19 points and carried a 19-6 lead into the second quarter.

The Warriors started to click offensively in the second quarter as Brianna Anderson hit a three and totaled five in the quarter while Brinkmeier and Kimberlyn Raab each added three of their own. Warren would go into halftime trailing by a score of 32-19. Warren’s offense struggled in the third quarter as they once again managed to only score six points. The lack of offense forced the Warriors to go into the fourth quarter trailing by a score of 44-25. Griffin managed to go two for two at the free throw line in the fourth, and Anderson would add her second three-pointer of the evening, but it was too late to complete the comeback. The Panthers would expand on their lead in the fourth, outscoring the Warriors 9-7. The Warriors fell by a final score of 53-32.

Anderson would lead the way offensively for Warren with 10, while Griffin finished with eight, and Brinkmeier added seven. The loss set the Warriors overall record at 3-20 for the season. The Warriors should look to treat this season as a learning lesson bringing the motivation to bounce back next season as their young roster will have gained experience and expanded their basketball skills. Warren Boys fall to River Ridge The Warren Warriors came into Friday’s game sitting at .500 with a 10-10 record on the season. Despite the .500 record, the Warriors have struggled in conference play, where they held a 1-5 record, which has left them near the bottom of the conference. They knew they were in for a battle as River Ridge sat in third place in the Northwest Upstate Illini-West Conference at 5-2. The Warriors found themselves trailing in the first quarter as River Ridge’s James Sullivan hit two free throws, capping off an 11 point run for the Wildcats, and putting them up 11-2. The Warriors would end the Wildcats run when Ethan Williams made a nice move under the basket to hit a layup. Noah Wulfekuhle then followed that up by going two for two at the free throw line, to bring the score to 11-6 with four minutes left in the first. River Ridge would expand on their lead to end the quarter as Kam Kiley provided seven points and helped the Wildcats to an 18-11 lead heading into the second quarter. Matthew Riedl would score the first points of the second quarter with a tough move under the basket to cut the Wildcat’s lead to five at 18-15. Noah Eaton soon followed up with a three-pointer of his own to cut the River Ridge lead to 20-16 with just over six minutes remaining until half. River Ridge would soon push their lead back to six when Nick Parr forced a steal and was fouled which led to him going two for two from the line. Warren’s Ethan Williams then went two for two himself as he cut the lead to just 24-19. Both teams would go back and forth as the Warren Warriors looked to prove they would be no pushover in this one. The Wildcats held just a four point lead, up 33-29 with just over a minute until the break. Ben Crist practically lived at the free throw line in the second, going
