The Warren Warriors made the trip to Stockton recently to face off with the Blackhawks in their second conference matchup of the season. The Warriors won their first meeting by a tight score of 45-37. They’ve been on a bit of a roller coaster of late, going 3-3 in their last six games prior to the Stockton matchup. With a record of 13-9, the Warriors came in as the favorites over the 9-14 Stockton Blackhawks. The Blackhawks were hot, however. Stockton came into Thursday’s matchup riding a three-game win streak with wins over River Ridge, Riverdale, and Pearl City. Playing the best ball of their season, Stockton was hoping to stay hot and pull off the upset win over their conference opponents. Warren held the advantage early on in the team’s second meeting. They doubled up the Blackhawks by outscoring them 8-4 in the first quarter. Matthew Riedl got it started for them with a quick four points. Mitchel Coffey had all four of Stockton’s points in the first quarter as he fought to keep them in the game early on. Stockton improved in the second quarter, as Cody Schultz had three points and the team combined four seven. The Wolves were even better, however. They found their offensive rhythm as Riedl went off four twelve points in the quarter. He continued to be the offensive focal point for Warren, and it was working as Stockton’s defense had no answer for him. Riedl’s play helped propel Warren to a 28-11 lead as they went into halftime. Warren found a new hot hand in the second half when Brayden Bohnsack put up seven points in the third quarter. Stockton once again put up seven points, thanks to a three from Josh Reynolds and baskets from Brady Broshous and Drew McGovern. It wasn’t enough to keep up with the
Warriors’ high-powered offense, however, as Warren held a 39-18 lead going into the final quarter. Stockton found some late momentum in the fourth. Keegan Phillips hit a three pointer and put up five points in the final quarter. Coffey and McGovern both put up four points in the quarter and the Blackhawks had their best performance of the night as they combined for eighteen points. With the big lead, Warren was able to coast toward the victory. Still, they combined for twelve points in the quarter as Riedl and Bohnsack both had four points and Masyn Neff had two points of his own. They went on to hold onto their lead as they pulled off the 51-36 victory in Stockton territory for their fifteenth win of the season. Coffey led the Blackhawks with eight points while McGovern was next up with six. The Warriors were led by Riedl who put up twenty points on the evening. Bohnsack was the second leading scorer to reach double digits as he finished the game with eleven points. Both Mitchel Wolff and Neff finished with five points. The win boosted Warren’s record to 15-9 on the year, while the Blackhawks fell to 9-15.

Threat to Jo Daviess Carroll CTE Academy On Feb. 2, 2020 at 12:18 p.m. the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Jo Daviess Carroll Career Technical education Academy, CTE Academy, reporting that a faculty member had received a threatening message on her work phone that pertained to a school shooting. Upon arrival it was discovered that the CTE Academy had been placed on “soft lockdown.” While investigating where the phone messages had originated from it was discovered that the threats were coming from an account registered to a student who was in the building at the time. At that point the CTE Academy was placed on “hard lock-
down” and deputies detained the suspected student without incident. Once the student was detained and the threat had been contained the CTE Academy went off lockdown and students were released as scheduled. After a thorough investigation it was determined that there was no active or future threat to the CTE Academy. The student was released to a parent pending formal charges from the Jo Daviess County State’s Attorney’s office. The Elizabeth Police Department, the Stockton Police Department, and the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
