Stockton loan helping improve resident living By Christopher Johnson REPORTER

On Tuesday at 7 p.m. members of the Stockton Village Board will once again convene to discuss the matters of the day, including spending plans. Because of work put in years ago in anticipation of

need, paperwork for an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency low-interest loan was received. After approvals were gathered by a majority vote of the Stockton Village Board, the paperwork was submitted for much needed financial assistance. Because of the reality of

age, underlying systems and those of major transport deteriorate. They must be replaced and they must be up to code. Most small communities across northern Illinois and the State as a whole are facing the problem of aging infrastructure. A lot of cash is required for towns across

the State which must bring everything up to code. That type of need requires millions of dollars, not just tens of thousands, which can typically cover many of the daily requirements such as tree removal, roadway patching and water main replacements. During recent meetings

of municipal leaders, Board Members have found themselves on a unanimous level approving the usage of hundreds of thousands of dollars for needed improvements. At last month’s meeting of the Stockton Village Board a vote was received to allow for the approval of Loan Disbursement Request Number 9 for IEPA Loan in the amount of just of $235,000. The cost is a sizable warrant but one that, now submitted, assures everything remains on track as the enhanced replacement and repair period accelerates. In additional action at the recently expired meeting of village officials, it was further agreed to continue discussion on another growth and development opportunity for the community. Jo-Carroll Energy, Inc. had previously presented a request for the use of village owned

property. Improved communication was the goal for the organization. The measure to approve the Tower Occupancy Agreement with the industry representative passed as discussion moved to other economic development opportunities. Committee Members often act in the capacity of Village Trustee, that’s when the majority of the “real business” occurs. But when they are part of the discussion panel regarding issues such as bringing more business and financial opportunity to the community, open conversation is often the end result. As in other communities across northern Illinois, arterially linked by US Route 20, the chance for growth is real. People traverse the northern byway en route to local destination points. Members

The Eagle Nature Foundation (ENF) has just announced that it is sponsoring a new 50/50 Raffle with the tickets at $5 each. The raffle is open to the public for anyone who wishes to donate to the organization. The winner’s name in this raffle will be drawn during ENF’s Annual Meeting on Mar. 26, 2022, at the Apple River Event Center in Apple River, IL. The winner does not have to be present to win. The full purse in past raffles has been

as high as $1,300. The 50/50 raffle is one way that ENF raises funds needed to study the bald eagle to determine why there are not more immature eagles seen during the winter season. Anyone interested in entering this 50/50 raffle should send their checks, $5 per ticket, to the Eagle Nature Foundation, 300 East Hickory Street, Apple River, IL 61001 before Mar. 20th. There is no limit as to how many tickets one person can buy.
