Plead for kidney donor

Streator, Ill. farmer and ag student Lance Moritz recently made a plea for a kidney donor on social media. The 19-year-old, whose kidneys have been monitored by doctors since he was 7, knew the day would come when he needed a new kidney, and has turned to the public for help. See story inside.

During November and early December, students and staff of the CTE Academy in Elizabeth have benefited from the support of community members, parents, and benefactors. The CTE Academy has been serving students and

tions, and gifts from community members and businesses. The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving has become known as Giving Tuesday and the CTEA benefited from the generosity of several local businesses and community members. Several programs will be able to purchase supplies and equipment thanks to donations from the Vincent family in honor of Steve Vincent, Mr. Bob Thorsness, Mrs.

Mary Ohms, and Hirschbach Logistics in East Dubuque. Items include new toolboxes and hose reels for the Automotive Program, saws, and nail guns for the Construction Trades Program, laptops and software for the Graphic Arts Program, virtual reality simulators for the Criminal Justice and Health Occupations Program, and a new Resuscitation Anne for Health Occupations.

Do you remember your first formal job interview? Were you nervous? Were you surprised by any of the questions? Maybe you were worried about how to sit or where to put your hands. FFA members across the section had the opportunity to practice for that big day in the Section One Job Interview Leadership Development event (LDE). This is a fantastic opportunity for students and FFA members to gain real-life skills and experience which will boost their confidence when the time comes for job interviews. Students completed all facets of the job interview process and were judged in each category. Students created a cover letter and resume prior to the in-person job interview. They also were judged on how they handled a phone call to set up the job interview time. Contestants were scored on their ability to correctly fill out a job application and the format and content of a follow-up letter as well. Students were judged on a variety of skills including grammar, formatting, poise, professionalism, ability to express themselves concisely, body language, enunciation, and confidence among other things. The top four contestants were invited to compete in the finals round where they did a second round of interviews via zoom with new judges. In a very tight contest senior (and Chapter President) Ashley Carroll placed first in the section followed by Benjamin Vandigo (Scales Mound) and Alaina Dinderman (Orangeville). Ashley and Benjamin will represent the section at the district level of competition this spring.
