River Ridge captures first ever playoff win By Trenten Scheidegger SPORTS WRITER

The River Ridge Wildcats have found some success after making the move to eight-man football. The Wildcats finished their regular season with a 6-3 overall record, which earned them the three seed in the I8FA playoff bracket. The six wins are the most the River Ridge Wildcats have ever gotten in a regular season. They were set up to face off with the ten seed in the 2-7 North Fulton squad. This round one matchup was a big one for the team and the surrounding community, as the River Ridge Wildcats were hosting their first ever home playoff game. Not only that, but they were looking to be the first River Ridge team to get a playoff win in the school’s history. Things got off to a bit of a slow start for the Wildcats as Joseph Diaz took in an eleven yard touchdown run, but they missed the two-point conversion giving them just a six point lead early on. The score would remain 6-0 through the end of the first quarter. They began the second quarter inside the North Fulton red zone. Caleb Rhodes was able to take a pitch into the end zone, but it was called back due to a holding penalty. The very

next play Bryton Engle was able to redeem him, however, as he ran a read option into the left side of the end zone from fifteen yards out. The score put them up 12-0 with just over ten minutes in the second quarter as they missed another two-point conversion. The River Ridge defense proved strong once again, and after forcing another North Fulton punt they gave their offense the ball at their own twenty-five-yard line. The Wildcats made quick work of it as they handed it off to Rhodes and before you knew it, he was off to the races for a 75yard touchdown run. The big score gave them a 20-0 lead with just under six minutes remaining in the half. On the next Fulton North Drive, Diaz was able to get into the backfield and force a fumble which wound up being recovered by Andrew Pratt to give the Wildcats the ball once again. Following a big run by Diaz, Engle was able to make a nice cut and run it in from just over twenty yards out to put his team up 26-0. It was Engle’s second score of the quarter. On the ensuing kickoff the Wildcats were able to recover the ball, giving their offense yet another opportunity to score. With the ball in North Fulton territory, it didn’t take

long for River Ridge to score as Engle took a read option 47 yards as he went for the hat trick with his third rushing touchdown in the second quarter alone. The Wildcats put up their third score in just under three

minutes as they went up 34-0 with just over four minutes left in the half. The score would remain the same until the third quarter. The River Ridge defense was able to force another punt on North Ful-

ton’s first drive of the second half. With their eyes on forcing the running clock, Rhodes was able to break multiple tackles as he broke free for a
