Warriors fall to Pearl City

By Trenten Scheidegger SPORTS WRITER

The Warren Lady Warriors found themselves in another tough match for the 2019 season when they faced off with the Pearl City Wolves’ volleyball squad. The Wolves came into Warren with a 16-13 overall record and a 5-5 conference record. The Warriors came in at 2-11 overall; however, both their wins came outside of conference play as their in-league record was just 0-6. Warren would not let the numbers keep them from showing up to play well on their home court, however. Despite coming in as major under dogs, the Warriors would prove to be no easy opponent for the Wolves. The first set featured a tight fought battle that ended with Pearl City getting the win by a score of 25-21. The Wolves would get the win in

the second set with a similar score of 25-19, giving them the 2-0 victory last Wednesday. Despite having a rough season, the Warriors have showed up to compete well in each and every one of their games, and that is something for them to be proud of. Warren was led offensively by Claire Riedl, who had four kills and a pair of aces on the night. She also had nine digs in a solid, all-around performance. Sydni Sigafus was impressive, as we’ve come to expect, as she led the team with six kills of her own. Allison Heller had nine digs which tied for the team lead and Emilie Slichenmeyer tacked on seven of her own digs. The Lady Warriors will wrap up the end of their regular season with an away matchup against Stockton this Thursday.

Last Friday night the River Ridge Wildcat’s football team hosted Danville Schlarman for their Senior Night. Prior to kickoff they took the time to recognize their four seniors, Dalton Wachter, Dylan Landwer, James Allen, and Joseph Diaz. It was a windy, chilly night but the team gave their seniors something to cheer about once again when it was all said and done. The Danville – Schlarman Hilltoppers came in with a 4-2 record while the Wildcats sat at 5-1. Despite the weather, this one still turned out to be an offensive shootout as the teams combined for an early 26 total points in the first quarter. The Wildcats held just a two point lead going into the second with a 14-12 lead. The second quarter was even more heated as the teams combined for 32 with both of them scoring sixteen points. River Ridge held their two point lead at halftime, up 30-28. The second half would be all Wild-

cats, however, as the defense had enough of this and would dominate the Hilltopper’s offense for the remainder of the game. Meanwhile the explosive Wildcat offense would remain strong as they continued to score in what would eventually turn out to be a 52-34 victory over Danville Schlarman. The victory was big for the Wildcats as it pushed their record to 6-1, while remaining undefeated in conference play. They are now set up for an opportunity to fight for the championship of the 8 man freelance Conference. The next game this Friday will be their most important of the season as they will have to travel to Polo for their week eight match up. The game holds a lot on the line as both teams are at the top of the conference. Polo has been perfect on the year, sitting at 7-0 overall, and should prove to be the Wildcat’s toughest competition to date. Both teams are undefeated in conference play as well.
