Lena Lions Club names Fall Festival Grand Marshall

The Lena Fall Fest is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6 and 7. As it does each year, the Lena Lions Club will name a Grand Marshall for the parade and festival. Bill Crichton, a long time Lions Club member and Co-Chair of the Grand Marshall Nominating Committee said, “The requirements for being named Grand Marshall are pretty basic. We typically look for someone who is the kind of
person who goes the extra mile. They work professionally and personally for the betterment of the community. They go above and beyond. “Our committee discussed the idea of giving recognition to the Lena Volunteer Fire Department, which, as you know, is celebrating its 150th anniversary. We decided to name the entire Lena Fire Department as Grand Marshall. No single individual or group could fulfill the requirements of this honor more than the 29 current vol-

The LeWin Panthers are back and they came out swinging to start their 2019 campaign. The Panthers kicked off their year by hosting the Eastland – Pearl City Wildcats in what was a game that ended quickly. The Panthers took their dominance from 2018 and carried it right into 2019 and they wasted no time getting to it. The Panthers got on the scoreboard quickly as sophomore Luke Benson slung a thirteen yard touchdown pass to Chrisman to go up 6-0
as they failed the two-point conversion. That did not matter, however, as less than two minutes later Sean Ormiston busted his first touchdown run of the year, going 48 yards to the house to give the Panthers a double digit lead. Ormiston also ran in the two point conversion to put the lead up to fourteen. Once again the Panthers scored quickly as less than two minutes later Benson showed off the arm.
ebration in Lena since 1951. Crichton said “In addition to the parade and honoring our Fire Department, this year we’re looking at having more than 50 vendors offering foods, unique craft items and much more during the fest. There will also be several booths that feature local nonprofit organizations that help those in need in our community. “As for the Lions Club, there’s somewhere around 80 members in the Lena Chapter. Everyone knows about our work with the visually impaired but there’s so much more. We support efforts to help those having difficulty with hearing loss and diabetes. The Lions have been a long-time supporter of the Lena Cub Scouts and we work for the improvement of our parks. “One hundred percent of monies contributed by the public to the Lions Club goes to the charitable causes we support.
“This is the first time we have ever named a Grand Marshall that is actually everyone in a single organization. We hope that everyone comes out to help pay tribute to the Lena Fire Fighters for their efforts.” As the Lena Volunteer Fire Department takes part in this parade, they’ll know that they have the support of the community they serve. Gerber said, “Every one of our members will be there. This will be a great day for them and everyone who has served in this Department, past and present.”Shane Gerber is still collecting photos, memorabilia or stories about the Lena Fire Department during the period of 1969 through 2019 for the latest edition of the department’s history.Pink Heals can be contacted at www.pinkheals.org or Facebook. unteer firefighters and those who have served Lena over the past 150 years.” Shane Gerber, 2nd Assistant Chief of the Department said, “This is quite an honor for us. When the rank and file members find out about this, I’m sure they’ll be surprised and proud. “Willie Keyser, who is 90, is one of five remaining former Fire Chiefs. Willie was able to attend our Departments 150th celebration a few weeks ago and we’re hoping he can make it to this one. Every piece of our equipment will be polished and rolling in the parade. The Pink Heals Fire truck will also be there with us.” The Pink Fire Truck is the symbol for Pink Heals, an organization that promotes health care support for individuals at a grass roots level. Pink Heals helps to provide programs that provide home visits for those that are ill, showing individuals that they are important to others. The Lena Fall Fest has been a cel-
