During the Thursday night storms, a lightning strike left the 150-year-old Zion Community Church near Pearl City a mass of charred ruins.

Brew and Chew in Pearl City plans full weekend of fun for kids of all ages EDITOR

The Brew and Chew in downtown Pearl City is announcing a full weekend of music, games, a corn hole tournament and kid’s fest beginning Saturday, Aug 6 at 10 a.m. with a full blown Corn Hole Tournament featuring 20 teams locked in competition and prizes for first, second and third place finishers. The fun moves into the afternoon with the opening of the Brew and Chew Biker’s Games featuring a ring toss, the dreaded weenie bite competition and a balloon toss, a 50/50 raffle and Cubs tickets are on the table for the big winners. Then from 7 p.m. until midnight some of the region’s best bands will take the stage for an epic night of rock and roll in the streets of Pearl

City. “Saturday is looking to be the day for motorcycle games and outdoor music,” said Brew and Chew co-owner Sylvia Martin. “The Beer Garden will be open at 11 a.m. and stay open until around one in the morning and there will be no cover charge when the bands take the stage.” She said Sunday will be for the kids. “Sunday we will be having a kid’s festival and the Pearl City Fire Department is helping us with it,” Martin said. “We will have a bouncy house. We’re going to do Olympic Games for the kids with three legged races, hula hoop contests, a dunk tank, a parachute wheel and much more.” The fire department will be staging water fights and possibly a few

more surprises. “We will be having a big tug of war using a hundred foot of rope in the street downtown,” Martin said. “We’ll be judging sidewalk chalk drawings and Bozo Buckets, we’ll have a spoon egg race and a huge Jenga Puzzle.” Everyone who participates in the Olympic Games, will have a chance to win a medal! “We will also be running a food tent,” she said. “We’ll be grilling brats and hotdogs all day and there’ll be chips and soda, and water and ice

cream for sale in the food tent.” She said the Kids Festival will run from noon till five on Sunday and admission is free. “We bought Brew and Chew two years ago and we were going to do a beer garden with a festival the first year, but we decided to wait and see how things went,” Martin said. “Pearl City used to have Homecoming Days, but that hasn’t happened for a while, so we started thinking about staging a festival and here we are.” They decided to spread the fun

over a weekend and stage bikers’ day on the first day and then stage something special for the kids on the next. “There is no cost for any of the kids to register for any of the Olympic Games,” she said. “There will be souvenirs and food and beverages for sale, but it’s a fun filled event for kids and admission and the games are all free.
