FHN offers online scheduling for COVID-19 vaccines Officials at FHN have discontinued their COVID-19 vaccination waiting list and are urging people to use their self-scheduling site at fhn.org/ vaccinationsignup. All currently available appointments are posted on the self-scheduling site, and any adult may claim an appoint-

ment time online, according to an FHN news release. Appointments are booked in pairs to ensure that everyone receives the correct second dose of vaccine at the correct time. The amount of vaccine available still varies day-today, but officials said FHN’s

vaccination clinic site at 1763 S. Dirck Drive in Freeport generally administers at least 120 vaccinations a day, Monday through Friday. If a day’s appointments aren’t filled, FHN shares that information and welcomes walk-in appointments with notifications on the organiza-

tion’s Facebook page (facebook.com/FHNhealth) and with a sign outside the Dirck Drive building. In addition, online self-scheduling is available for a drive-thru COVID-19 vaccination event on Satur-

Athletes of all sports had to deal with the waiting period when sports were brought to a halt in 2020. The wait was a little different for spring athletes, like softball and baseball players, who saw their entire 2020 spring season canceled before it even began. May 15, 2019, was the last time the Lena-Winslow Panthers’ baseball team stepped on the field in a playoff game against Aquin. The Panthers managed to score four runs in the final two innings before suffering a heartbreaking, walkoff 5-4 loss to the Bulldogs that brought an end to a 6-15 season. Two years later, the Lena-Winslow Panthers and seventh year head coach Nick Werhane, are ready to put that season behind them and move forward. Despite losing two senior classes to graduation since they last played, the Panthers do return some talented pieces to build their lineup around. Senior catcher/pitcher Max Amendt leads the way after being named to the First

Team All-Conference team as a catcher in 2019. They also return an honorable mention outfielder in junior Ethan Fye, who will also pitch for Le-Win. Junior infielders Luke Benson and Brody Mahon also return with starting experience at the varsity level. A number of newcomers will have to step up for the Panthers, including senior outfielder Pacey Martin, junior infielder Maddex Sargent, and a pair of sophomores in outfielder Jake Zeal and infielder Drew Streckwald. Werhane shared excitement when asked about the opportunity to finally get back on the field with this group. “Honestly, it has been a whirlwind with everything going on,” the coach said. “I’m very excited to be back on the diamond. We have a great group of kids to work with this year.” Typically, when a team returns to the field, there is always a little rust for the athletes to shake off. That is even more true when the team has gone
